Wallets?

I figured that many of you gents are of the discerning type when it comes to purchasing items, so I was curious as to what I should look for as far as a nice, durable bi-fold wallet. Having a bi-fold is a fairly important detail, because for whatever reason I hate having a lot of bulky stuff in my pockets, so tri-folds bug the hell out of me. Also, I'm looking for something a bit more durable than fancy, as it will be taking a moderate amount of abuse.

Thanks in advance!

Bosca makes a nice wallet. Pretty expensive but last. The one I currently have I got in 2003, and has survived a trip to Europe, sitting in my backpocket in the humid Houston heat, and two instances of falling into water. Still looks good, the only thing needed to be replaced was the plastic card holder insert.

I've been using a Big Skinny for the past two years and it's falling apart. I love how thin it is, but they just aren't made well enough.
Have you considered a metal cigratte case style wallet?

I highly recommend Ghurka wallets.. Very well made, very soft leather. I've had mine for like 6 years now, and its still going strong.. I may switch to a money clip, and if I do it will be a ghurka as well... Great wallets though, and not bad for like $175-$200.

I got one of these for a present last christmas and have grown quite fond of it:

    http://www.gizmag.com/go/7503/

It's like a rubbery type thing and appears to be pretty damn durable. I haven't had any issues w/ it. It might be a tad thicker than normal bi-folds though.

I keep my wallet in my front right pocket, so size really is important to me. I have had this for about 4 years and I will never have another wallet again.

I know you asked for wallet suggestions, but I would feel bad if I didn't suggest the Slim Clip.

And before you dismiss it, I thought I would never stop using a wallet, but my mom bought me one for my college graduation and pressured me until I started using it, and I love it now. I keep it in my front pocket, which keeps me from having to check my back pocket every time I get up (I still did for awhile, but I got over it).

Its basically just a money clip with a backing that can hold cards. I never had any pictures in my wallet since high school anyway, so the loss of pictures was no big deal.

I recently switched from a wallet to a money clip. I thought I'd be at a loss not having everything a wallet could hold but after two weeks, I realized how much useless junk I was carrying around. Now I just have my license, ATM/debit card, one credit card an cash. I don't think I'll ever go back.

A wallet that can last many years is normally made of original leather, and hand-made. Make sure it fits in your back pocket easily and has compartments for your ID, CC and cash.

I actually use a metal cigarette/cigar case that I bought to use as a wallet since my old one was falling apart. It can't fit much change, but it handles bills and my cards just fine, and looks really nice.

Best slimline wallet I ever had was the card holder insert (like meeker's Coach number) I pulled from the billfold I was using. I was clubbing a lot at the time so I wanted minimal shit in my pockets. It's enough to hold 4 cards and some cash (you can shove more cards in if you like). After I wore it out I went wallet-less, since besides keys and phone, all I was carrying was 4 or 5 platic cards, proof of insurance and cash.

    1) Get a money clip and keep all your cash in that. Only keep cards and ID in your wallet. Your back will thank you in 30 years.

    2) I have a Fabio Corti that I bought in Nordstrom for about $50. Just find one you like that isn't too expensive. Wallets aren't really made to hold up much after a year (they will, they'll just be beat to shit).

Check out All-ett - they make incrediably thin wallets out of spinnaker cloth. I've got a bunch of various cards, currency from a couple of different countries (I travel internationally for business, and it's handy to always have at least some cash on hand) - and it carries it all and at probably 1/3 the thickness of a regular wallet. It's like a Tardis.

I bought my wallet back in 1997 at Zellers.

    It cost me 11 dollars.

At first, the thing would cause cards to snap due to pressure from my bum bending them while I was sitting down. There was also black marring on most of the cards. After breaking it in however, I don't see why I'd get another one as I'm still using it to this day.

I guess if you were to force the break in period, it might be the most dependable wallet you've ever owned.

I've been using one from Fossil for awhile. Decent, has all the space I need, looks nice, and was like $30-35 I think.

It's similar to this one: http://www.amazon.com/Fossil-Wallet-Midway-Color-Brown/dp/B0010VMC8G/ref=sr_1_25?ie=UTF8&m=A37C5GNWBK4E8Z&s=jewelry&qid=1215525139&sr=1-25
but not shown in their list of current wallets.

But it's got a separate pull out thing to hold your ID and a couple cards, so if you don't need to take your whole wallet you just slide that out and go.

Best wallet I ever had was purchased at the local Renaissance festival. It'd be a pretty big hassle if all you wanted was a wallet, but if you tend to go to that sort of thing anyway, pick one up there.

The original wallet lasted in the owners pocket for over 5 years. With normal wear they will last for 2 to 3 years.

I've got a Tumi one that I like. There are a lot of little things I appreciate, like slanted credit card slots and the trademark red line on the flap in the bill holder portion. Its just a little easier to use, and its slim enough that I don't constantly feel the need to take it out of my pocket, as I do with everything else I carry on me.

It definitely can be a pain, and it results in them wearing out faster (not to mention, wearing out pants too).

I put my wallet in my back pocket when I wear slacks/jeans for work, but put it on the side on my cargo shorts on weekends and such. It's just a matter of where the pockets are.

As long as your wallet isn't Costanza big it doesn't really affect you.

Yeah, it is a little longer/wider so it can have two sets of credit cards/etc per side. But it's very thin.
If you need a wallet that can carry a lot, but won't bulk up your pocket, it's great.

The only thing is a lot of the ones I've seen online only have room for like, 2 cards, and I need room for like 4 or 5 (yes, I need to carry around those specific cards).

I have an old Black Flys wallet that I've been using since ~1994. I do not know if they have branched out in the wallet market at all since then. The one I have is almost certainly not what you want. It is a tri-fold and also attaches to a chain (not that you can't just disconnect the chain... no one can tell when it's in your pocket). They may have others, though, and it's damned high quality.
