my school's prom is the same day as the nationals for National Academic Quiz Tournament, and our second-place dude on the team says he'd rather attend prom than try to be the best in the nation

RANDALL_FLAGG MOAR LIEK RANDALL_FA- ah fuck it.
Also really, school dances are too expensive, really? I can understand if they were shit and you were better off spending the time and money doing other things, but if school dances are expensive you better be living in squalid poverty or something.
Homecoming last year was $5 each, this year it's free because it's going to suck. Not only will very few people be there, but the school we're playing for our homecoming game is even more poor than our school, so they're coming to our dance.
Yep, that won't be awkward at all after we shamelessly beat them by ~40 points.
I'm not talking about proms, i'm talking about just plain jane dances. If you're putting in more than a few dollars for tickets and clothing that is just a bit better than casual you're either doing something wrong or your school has a terrible budget.
200 dollars is a good chunk of money to most people
especially a teenager without a job or rich parents
i mean yeah get a job you stupid faggot but still
Prom falls under the purview of 'at any expense though'.
Things that people who didn't do them always regret that you should never pass up on for love nor money:
1) Prom or applicable high school dance
2) University graduation
3) Weddings of siblings
4) Funerals of any close family member
5) High risk job opportunities that might not pay off but if they did will improve things hugely.
I've flown halfway around the world for number 3. I couldn't afford it, no way. And for months after I was scraping a living from friends.
But in 10 years I will look back and be extremely glad I managed it.
I wish I had a proper prom, and prom isn't even such a tradition in Britain. Just something official that put a seal on my high school days. $200 for a suit and extras? Even at 16 I could get that kind of money together. £100? Borrow, beg and steal. Put the whole works on things like that, go the whole hog.
Because you can always earn more money.

You see I, as someone who didn't even have a prom, would have taken a shitty one instead of nothing.
All I got was an unofficial party at a friends house of like 20 people with a DJ. Never got that formal crap, just a rave in a garage waking up really drunk the next day on a garden bench with a girl who I don't think even went to our school.
Edit: Actually, that was pretty awesome. Fuck prom.

not really.
Just easy to fuck with people by making them think you are.
All those things you said were lies?
Neville says those things to everybody. You thought you were special?
it's theme is "getting spooky with it"
I thought you cared
He's just playin' us all like fools. He be hustlin'
and complaining about a school dance being too expensive is retarded
just because they don't complain about the same things you do doesn't mean you have to get all persnickety
so i'll say as i envision it
They try so hard to get people to go.

whenever i think of dances i think of the dance scene from napoleon dynamite when he's in the bathroom after crying.
that is like the saddest thing.
edit: and best totp

to me, spending $10 on a meal is considered expensive
They call them 'wings of fire' on the menu.
I envision angels aflame.
That's pretty pricey for me.

Tickets: 20x2=40 dollars
Dinner: 25 dollars
Corsage: 17 dollars
Already had a suit. Came out pretty cheap.
