So, I went back on my computer yesterday (it had been on for a few hours), and I couldn't type any letters, and I couldn't figure out what my keys were really doing. Pressing 'w' would close a window, I couldn't end processes in task manager, etc. I finally realized that it was acting as if the CTRL key is always pressed, and figured that one of the ctrl keys was jammed, but I took the keyboard out and it still acts like the key is on.
I've tried rebooting, plugging the keyboard into different USB ports, using a different keyboard, and it doesn't fix it. I have a fairly new Dell Inspiron 530, if that helps.
Pull up your virtual keyboard, shut down, physically remove the keyboard, and boot it up.
If the ctrl key is shown pressed on the virtual keyboard, it is a software issue. If the problem is fixed, you need a new keyboard (ebay).
I had a similar issue with my Inspiron 9100 and two shift keys and this is what tech support told me to do.
edit: Oh, its a desktop. Still, follow a similar plan.

Windows has an on screen 'virtual' keyboard, for those with whatever disabilities or those who don't have a keyboard. You basically just click the buttons to type but if it shows that the control keys are depressed on the on screen version, you know it is not a hardware problem.
I forget exactly where the on screen keyboard is though. It's always tucked away somewhere...

I am totally stumped. I already did a complete scan with AVG, and it found nothing.
:stumped:
edit: problem seems to be away for now? It may have been spyware from a program I installed yesterday, and removed just now in safe mode.
Odd that AVG didn't find anything

Whenever I run a check I always run at least Adaware AND Spybot.
