I wanted to get the community's feedback on a revolutionary new business idea that I am thinking of launching. In the new political climate, I can't help but wonder whether spreading the wealth around is an idea whose time has come. My idea is to move wealth redistribution away from the government and into the private sector.

My idea is to create an eBay-like online marketplace for the private re-distribution of wealth. In naming the site, I have tried to combine the concepts of "wealth" and "fairness", and the name I have come up with is "Welfair".

Welfair would match people who need money with those who have money to give, taking a cut of every transaction. But the real growth opportunity is to create an entire ecosystem like eBay has. Just like thousands of people have given up their day jobs to make their livings off of eBay, our business strategy would be to get people to give up their jobs and make their living off Welfair.

We would move to a society where millions of people stop working and sit around at home, waiting for their Welfair checks to arrive. In this difficult economy, I would think that a lot of people would jump at the chance to move onto Welfair. I can't believe that no one has thought of this before...

Anyway, if anyone has any ideas on how I can further refine this idea, I would love to hear them.

Why would people give their money to this? If it's to make a profit off of jobs created, why wouldn't they do it now by, say, hiring these people.

I think your best bet to try and raise awareness is likely some sort of coupons or stamps, possibly for food. Also, cheese-based promotion seems like it would be a good idea.

I see your point. We should provide a way to provide food to those that want it from those that have it.

It seems like it would take a lot of infrastructure to provide food also, maybe that can be phase two in my project. For now it be better if we just facilitated the flow of money from those who want to give to those who have embraced the Welfair.com lifestyle.

Edit: What do you think about a Welfair.com debit card that you could say only use at a grocery store? That would eliminate the need us to transport the foodstuffs. O course we would need to take a little off the top maybe in the form of a transaction fee?

This is bullshit! I have to spend 8 hours a day walking around looking for beggars to give my money away to and now you want to monopolise the whole market?

Why should these un-spongeing bastards get to sit around giving their money away for free when I have to work damn hard to give mine away?

The problem is that welfare the way it was originally intended is a good thing. It's a positive to have a safety net in place for someone who gets laid off and has no income, or has to take a job without insurance and needs care for their children, or to help low income people make smarter food choices through programs like WIC. However, what welfare has become is a problem.

We have people spreading out their children at just the right increments to keep their services. We have people getting free daycare when they aren't even working. We have people getting better healthcare service than those of us that work hard to keep coverage on our families.

I understand your joke, but it's not the existance of welfare that is the problem, it's that we need to basically start from scratch to get it as a last ditch resort and not a lifestyle choice.

Ok, so lets poke through the joke and talk about your actual opinions, then.

Your idea is that a welfare state would lead to millions of people sitting around all day waiting for the government to give them money.

I am curious what you base this opinion on and if you have checked with how actual welfare states have worked and are working today. You'd be surprised by the high standard of living, the innovation, investments and low unemployment rate these countries have.

Micro-loans? Or something else that isn't related to helping the disadvantaged in developing nations? Because micro-loans seem pretty cool.

You are thinking of prosper.com. Actually that was the inspiration fo rthe satire, alot of people took out loans and now they are defaulting at a higher than expected rate (compared to credit score). The loans are unsecured so people that lent the money are pretty much out of luck.

Speaking of which can I burrow 500 euros?

I just wanted to make a satire, and ruffle some feathers of the uptight liberal D&D crowd. I am done with this thread, it has amused me enough. Aldo if you would like to talk about welfare then by all means proceed.
