They nerfed 60 to 70 as well in the most recent patch. Something like 53% less xp needed total.

I'm going to reactivate for a month just for shits and giggles. Not like I have anything else to do till the 360 comes back in a few weeks
if I remember correctly, starting at level 20 you need less xp to level (up until level 60 and then 61-70 are unchanged) and quests in the level ranges from 30-60 give more xp
it results in being able to level quite a bit faster than before
also I may have that backwards
it may be quests from 20-60 that give more xp and that you need less xp to level from 30-60

also there may have been other changes since I stopped playing a few months back

they also introduced a promotion (don't know if it's still available but I think it is) where an existing account can buddy up with a new account and when they play together they both gain xp faster, and the new player can basically give levels to the existing player's character within certain guidelines

also they removed virtually all outdoor elites

The only MMO that could really tempt me at this point is one based on Interstate '76. Just an obscenely massive persistent map of the American Southwest filled with groups of people riveting machine guns to their hoods and blowing the shit out of one another. All to the smooth tunes of the seventies.

The one thing I really regret is that the rise of low-profile voice chat clients would make it impossible to chain people to the limitations of CB radio for communication in-game.

    That game had fantastic multiplay.

Hell yes it did. And that's one of the few areas Interstate '82 actually improved on. Hot Potato and Capture the Salmon were both phenomenal, and it was a natural hotbed of emergent gameplay. Like rigging out all the cars with carbine cutters and having one player try and make it to the teleporter on foot.

I had quit a while back but started back up with a friend for the triple leveling, hit 60 in about 2 weeks of casual play

    that's retarded

when I played alliance, I made it a point to always solo hogger on whatever alt I was leveling
of course, I realize that hogger was easier than he used to be, but still it always cracked me up how people would always be looking for help with hogger and I'd just be like, man I'll just solo him a level or two later
    it was tough, but fun

the irony is that I finally got my epic flyer on my hunter a few weeks before I cancelled

running back and forth doing stupid quests was not fun and since I was like 9 levels below everyone else, I wasn't doing many instances

I play a good amount of WC3 (TFT) and it's distinctly the minority when an opponent is rude or behaves in such a way that I suspect hacking. I play almost entirely 2v2 AT (ladder) matches.

However, I blame the hacking on Blizzard. They are lazy about banning hackers, and they built the game in such a way that clientside hacks are fairly easy to write.

Mori, I don't really agree here. The problems with the community could easily be fixed if Blizzard would just ban people for inappropriate behaviors. The game would be no different, but the hackers/douchebags would be gone.

    No you are dumb

Really, I think it isn't significantly different than any other game, except that with Warcraft 3 I've never been able to find a good small community of well-mannered players outside a few disparate friends. Usually one of those communities sprouts up in the PA forums, but for whatever reason people on penny arcade have never been too interested in the game.

I actually blame this on battle.net being free. If it ever comes to the point where it isn't, I suspect a stronger punishment. For example, they're extremely hard on anyone caught using exploits in WoW.

If they just banned your CD key, it would probably solve the problem right there.

And if they also charged, like, just $1 per month or something for BNet, that would probably cut it down because it would be way harder to pirate/keygen.

It would be easy. I'm saying they don't because they don't have any monetary interest, so it's not really worth policing. Plus it's only custom games and things like that where hacking is an issue, so it's even less so. Ranked ladder matches and tournaments are much less bothered by it.

Actually it is the ranked ladder games that have precisely that issue these days. Blizzard conducted a few mass cd-key bannings, but as war3's popularity waned they just stopped bothering. Not that you can really blame them, but it'd be nice to have a fan-run community a la starcraft where moderators crack down on hacking really hard.

I have seen people get kicked from clans for hacking, but I am pissed at Blizz for not banning keys, and honestly I am very seriously considering not buying their products any longer because of it. It's a shame because I'm sure SC2 will be really great, but if they don't handle hacking properly, fuck it, I'll play multiplayer games on consoles.

I didn't say it didn't matter, only that Blizzard would probably be more apt to police it if it weren't a free service. And they do ban CD keys for maphacking. All the time, in fact. Yes new ones keep showing up, but that's simply the nature of the beast.

There was a time like that, but right now it's definitely in the majority. Or they're hiding it so well that even upon watching replays it's not obvious. We also win slightly more than 50% of our games, although the fact that I play 2v2 AT instead of solo might insulate me from the hacking population.

Seriously, I manged to almost lose a 1v1 today because I forgot to buy a new scroll of town-portal after I used up my first one - my game is getting a little better, but I still keep missing critical details like that. I also can't micro for shit - I spend almost all my time just trying to keep my heroes alive, I can't pull off surrounds, or do fancy saves with teleportation staffs and the like.

One rule I've kept is that EVERY HERO must carry a town portal in the upper-left inventory slot at all times. It is far too often that your primary guy gets hexed or stunned or there's just lag or some bullshit and the portal doesn't fire. Then the rest of your army gets buttfucked, and your secondary hero is useless because he's, like, level 1 and has no portal. I also keep two shops in my base, the second one going up at some point in tier 2. This is much more important in 2v2 than in solo, though.
