I know what my next run will be. A complete pacifist. The only creature they will kill in the entire game will be the radroach you have to kill in the tutorial. Otherwise, between 10 Charisma, 10 Intelligence, 100 Speech, Lady Killer/Black Widow, and Child at Heart, this character will go through the Wasteland like no one thought possible.

Did I mention 100 Sneak as well? I'm going to get real comfortable with using Stealth Boys, let me tell you.

Zip. Someone else wins, most people don't acknowledge Dave isn't president and the new President just says how things are going to change. You see nothing from it.

Dan leaves town to start a new republic, and you get the combination to Dave's safe, which contains Ol' Painless, from whoever is elected.

Dan heads for Old Olney, with predictable results.

Could someone tell me roughly how far I am into the main story (without spoiling anything if possible)? I'd like to do a bunch of side quests before I finish.

    I just:
Found the G.E.C.K with Fawkes, and then convinced the President to disband the Enclave. Fawkes and I are currently hiking back to Megaton.

Could you add to the OP in a spoiler the locations related to the main quest (possibly the NPC's related to it)? I've mostly just explored during my 30 hours so far and don't want to risk skipping ahead in the story - which I've heard could happen if I stumble into the wrong places.

    So here's a question about Vault 108.

In the entrance area, there's a side storage area with several big yellow crates. In the back corner of them, there is a stepladder and a copy of Tumblers underneath the stepladder in the corner.

Has anyone found a way to get this? The guide says, and I quote, "nearly impossible to get." Not impossible, but apparently very, very difficult. I've tried grenades to move it around and I can't seem to put anything down there to move it around (there is a 2x4 nearby). Any success? I can't seem to find anyone that's actually got this book and I can't think of anything else to try.

So I have been playing and meandering all over the place. Doing quests here and there, doing half a quest and getting near another quest and working on that one a little while. Just having a lot of fun at my own pace. But there's a main quest location that I can't seem to get to.
The GNR Building where you're supposed to talk to Three Dog. I can't seem to find a way around all of the wreckage and debris to get to that part of the map. Am I doing it wrong?

Yes, use the metro. It is possible to get there without, but you have to glitch a mutant stronghold wall and climb a girder to jump to the other side.

i couldnt steal eugene either with full stealth and a stealth boy at night when everyone was sleeping. then again even with full stealth and a stealth boy on ive had raiders wake up and start shooting at me so maybe i need a better stealth technique. its ok, i now have vengeance the repeating laser weapon which is much better than any minigun.

    as for dukov
yes the body has the key on it. it might be in a corner somewhere or could have fallen through the world. i had the same problem with the drug guy in the quest where i gave him jet a long time ago not knowing it would kill him only to not be able to find his body, i eventually found it by using a consol command floating in the water INSIDE the ship. so i had to use tcl to get out afterwords... :( what a pain.

go to megaton first, if you dont want to advance the quest, look in the op for where not to go.

spec small arms, sneak, and either lockpick, science, speach or medicine.

I didn't even stop when Jesus appeared. Anyway right at the final exit tunnels to get to Rivet City a band of mercenaries ambushed me at the exit of the subway. I killed them and then turned to the girl to say ok we are here only to see that she was gone. She was nowhere to be found. So could she have just seen the city in sight and ran to it while I was fighting or did the game either glitch out on me and lose here between getting to the subway exit and loading the outside, or did I just run out of time and the game didn't even bother to tell me? Second sentence. "...because I didn't have any waypoints to Rivet City..."

What really sucks on this mission:
If you convince her to leave, then tell her you don't want to take her this very moment, you can never get to that conversation path again.
I ended up killing everyone in that place in rage.

So at this point should I just reload and try again, and if it doesn't work slaughter everyone in Rivet City with my indiscriminate rage?

I'm walking past the bomb, which I've never deactivated since I have crap for explosive skill, when I realize I'm still high on mentats from the archives. And that explosives is dependent on INT.

Sometimes this game is more fun if you just dick around, instead of attacking it like an MMO, where every step is usually planned or at least directed by quests.

are really useless as there are only about 4 types which you wont see any of for a while anyway and they have no advantage over regular guns... oh and the ammo is rarer and more expensive.

    sneak is an almost must,

See, I think sneak is overrated anyway. I have about 30 sneak and do just fine. I sneak close enough to get to the doorway, then potshot the people in the rooms. People say that even at 100 sneak you still can't pickpocket worth a darn and I haven't found a real reason to invest more in sneak yet.

Pickpocket is severely broken when you cant pick people who must be incredibly far below you in level and/or never show any inkling of having any stealth speciality. Even with Silent Running its impossible to pick large amounts of caps.
