Our new Indie Games subforum is now open for business in G&T. Go and check it out, you might land a code for a free game. If you're developing an indie game and want to post about it, follow these directions. If you don't, he'll break your legs! Hahaha! Seriously though.
Our rules have been updated and given their own forum. Go and look at them! They are nice, and there may be new ones that you didn't know about! Hooray for rules! Hooray for The System! Hooray for Conforming!
The Dimensional Vortex - Unlock your hidden potential!
The Dimensional Vortex is a zone of temporal instability that changes forms upon each visit. Grievous trials await you within, but only by facing those trials can you unlock your dormant strength. Be warned, however! The Vortex is a place riddled with danger, and once you enter, you must journey far before you can leave.
Access the Vortex from each of the three locations in which it appears, overcoming each challenge in turn, to bring about a change at the End of Time. But do not expect anything you've encountered to prepare you for what will then ensue...
The Lost Sanctum - Obtain rare and ancient treasures!
Near the end of the tale, a strange Gate appears suddenly in both prehistory and the Middle Ages. Waiting within, you will discover a people in dire need of your assistance. Complete the increasingly daunting tasks they ask of you in order to unlock the secrets of this strange, forgotten sanctum. At times, you may need to visit other eras to fulfill their wishes. But that is the only way to discover what lies hidden in the realm's deepest reaches...
The Arena of the Ages - Raise monsters and battle your friends!
At the Arena of the Ages, you can raise your very own beastly battler to pit against others in contests of strength. By sending your fiendish friend out to train and hone its skills, it will gradually grow stronger and change in appearance. Mold your monster into an unstoppable fighting machine and lay claim to the rare prizes at stake! Make use of DS Wireless Communications, and you can even challenge your friends!
New Ending
This release also contains a new optional ending that helps tie Chrono Cross into Chrono Trigger's story more effectively.
*Apologies to the mods since a thread already exists, but it contained no real info about the game, it was more a thread for the announcement.
I'm down with this, since I've committed to only buying DS games before Christmas, with hopes of getting the more expensive shit as gifts. Day one bought.

This game is all about the racism. I hate to think about all the backlash that will be involved but the truth must be told. The truth about a man who kills people by dropping them from his crane. Political correctness be damned. Damned to the max.
I'm trying to figure out where to pick it up; I've heard gamestop or eb is giving out free copies of the soundtrack on day one, pre-order unnecessary, but I don't know for sure.
That, and I hate those two stores and would love to pick up the game pretty much anywhere else.
edit: false alarm, the "soundtrack" is a 2-track CD. One's a medley and the other is the orchestral version of the theme. Kinda neat, but not nearly as cool as one would hope.
If it weren't for the fact that I get home just in time to start watching Chuck, with Heroes and My Own Worst Enemy immediately after, I would probably be doing the rounds of the local stores since there's word that the game is available already in some stores. As it is though, it will have to wait for tomorrow (of course then I have to delay House/Fringe )
So I have a new plan, leave for work early tomorrow so I can stop by Walmart to hopefully pick this up so I can play it all day at work.
I have to say I've been playing the Japanese version of Chrono Trigger DS and I love it, It's the chrono trigger I know and Love and I can't wait to get to the new dungeon.
I'm also really glad it converts to english makes it so much better but I can't wait to get the US version as well
Does anyone know if there will be a strategy guide?
i would love to get one if there will be just because but haven't heard anything and I can't find anything on one.
So, this being the only old school square game I never played. How does this version hold up? Should I try to get this after the holidays or go get the old SNES version I saw in a pawn shop for $10?

I don't see why you shouldn't go with the SNES copy. Unless of course you think that the extra content is worth $30 for you. Unless of course you're always on the road and don't want to dust off your old SNES. Then maybe you should pick up the DS version.
Even if you get the DS version (Which I would reccomend), I would still grab the SNES copy if it's that cheap...then resell it on E-bay for a profit, since original carts of Chrono Trigger usually go for a good bit.

I'm very happy about the timing on this. Sure, I've still got plenty of console gaming to catch up with, but I'll be doing a bunch of travelling in the next couple weeks, and there's no other way I'd rather spend the idle time.
Just finishing my SNES copy in time for a meaningful comparison.

There's no guarantee that the SNES or the cart will work for much longer. The game IS 13 years old...
I'd say get it for the DS. The translation is a bit smoother (though the original was good), and it looks really good.

SNES consoles and games don't just randomly break. Hell, if you spend ten minutes popping in a new 72-pin connector, you can get a NES working just as well as it did in 1985. As long as you clean the contacts regularly and maybe replace the battery, there is absolutely no reason why a SNES Chrono Trigger cartridge won't keep working for years to come.
There are plenty of reasons to buy the DS version over the SNES one (portability, new translation, new ending, lower price), but an irrational fear of the cart or the console failing should not be one of them.
They're running an awesome ad on Kotaku right now about halfway down the page.
Spoiler:
You can play the soda-drinking minigame in your browser. Woo.
Ordered this through amazon...though they say it won't be here until the 1st. Damned holidays...
Hah, Amazon says they just shipped my copy. It's coming from Indiana and supposed to take 9 days to move one state over. Ironically, I'm in Indiana for Thanksgiving right now.
Not that I have time to play it since these pumpkin creme brulees aren't going to cook themselves.
(Please do not gift. My game bank is already full.)

And I'm still on the fence about getting it. I do already own the FF Chronicles version.
Welcome to the world on this side.
Thanks!
And yeah, this is going to keep me going through all of Thanksgiving.

Just say you lost the present in a rare accident or something.
Anyway, looking forward to this game. I had to import it so I hope it doesn't take long to arrive.
