Took me a while to get used to but its really satisfying to nail it.
Oh, and Message in a Bottle rocks too.
We were playing a little Rock Band. He's new to it, still plays on easy, and decided to try his hand at medium. Cool. Glad he's stepping it up.
So I threw us a steady diet of Rush and Metallica.
Top 10 (in no real order) DLC drum tracks:
1. Red Barchetta - Rush - There are 3 main rhythms including one of the trickier 16th note "dance sections", plus lots of incidental fills and a "latin" bridge similar in feel to the majority of YYZ. I like Barchetta better because it's more casually beatable but still challenging.
2. Jesus Christ Pose - Soundgarden - Extremely repetitive, but that main beat is very addictive. Can definitely improve your sticking too, as the the pattern requires careful attention to which hand you start each subdivision.
3. The Perfect Drug - NIN - Lots of variation and difficult syncopation, with some fast rolls and paradiddles. Something like a simplified drum & bass track.
4. Ten Speed (of God's Blood & Burial) - Coheed - Not remotely as difficult as it's listed. Very satisfying progression of rhythms and for some reason the freeform fill sections seem better placed in this song than any other.
5. China Cat Sunflower - Grateful Dead - Very relaxing (until the end). Has a nice loping Jazz groove that's pretty unique in Rock Band. The last 30 seconds or so is a flurry of non-stop fills.
6. Little Sister - QotSA - I'm not the biggest fan of Grohl's beats, but this is my favorite of the QotSA tracks (on drums and guitar). Fast paced, some difficult footwork, occasional mini-fills. A straightforward rock beat.
7. Call Me - Blondie - A disco beat with a triplet feel. Hypnotic track with some really nice fills. A good song for beginners needing to develop some limb-independence, as the kick just pounds that four-to-the-floor while your hands move around it.
8. Mica - Mission of Burma - The drums in this song have some great tension, alternating between terse rhythmic fragments, tricky jazz-punk patterns, and a simple tribal stomp.
9. Don't Make Me Wait - Locksley - Has that 60's throwback Kinks groove. Deceptively hard, with lots of quick snare rolls and right-hand duplets.
10. The 20 Free Songs - There are lots of good drum tracks in here even though a lot of music is terrible from a listening perspective.
Though Almost Easy is pretty close.
From the 20 free songs, I love that X Japan song.
I was surprised. I expected a boatload of suck, but you're right, there are some decent tracks in there.
Though not Hollywood Undead.
"Hey, look at us! We dress up in silly outfits but we're attempting to be deep and meaningful in a way that's been done 47,000 times before, but we'll really bug your parents and that's all that matters, right?"
I swear, I'm tolerant of most songs I don't like but I'm thinking of hacking my 360 just so I can nuke that goddamn song off my hard drive.
The Free 20 is maligned mostly because the bands aren't exactly famous and the songs themselves aren't exactly the most exciting things in the world. But for not having to pay anything extra, they're perfectly serviceable and, depending on your instrument of choice, there are some fun tracks.
I'm mostly indifferent toward the Hollywood Undead though I'm leaning toward dislike. The song is just incredibly dull and one of my local radio stations is playing a different track from them and it doesn't really sound all that different. Thrilling...
You're muckin' with a G!
Guitar = Hey, lets pick 3-5 chords and hit them as quarter notes for 3 minutes.
For drums though, the drum charts are actually pretty unique. They change up the patterns quite a bit, so you don't feel so bored.
Has anyone attempted to compile such a colllection?
If so, were any roadblocks hit with attempting to locate (by legal means) any of the tracks?
You're muckin' with a G!
Its whenever there is only 3-5 distinct notes, and its all quarter notes all the time that I find boring.
The Devo and Jimmy Buffett tracks are re-recordings for Harmonix and several other songs used newer takes like "Where'd You Go", "Ace of Spades", and "Hello There."
I mean, it's not like Tempted has the most compelling guitar chart ever.
I'm confused.
I wasnt' bitching about "chordfests" and I certain don't remember saying anything about my dreams...
I'm aware a lot of songs are like that. It would appear HMX is aware too, as they like to switch up rythm guitar and melody guitar for their lead guitar charts.
Jesus, you guys are acting like I'm banishing rock band from my house, because I found one part on a handful of songs to be boring.
Its not like I just said that I find their drum parts to be really fun and unique or anything.
I think my completionist side would be okay if ultimately I had to supplement slightly different versions for some of the songs. I kinda went into this realizing that some tracks were not their exact album versions.
"Shhh..." not being available sucks though; not that I recall the song by the title alone.
You get the Orange Box soundtrack for free when you buy Audiosurf from Steam, which is currently on sale for $5 and is absolutely worth it.
That would likely be the UK Surf mix that was used in the movie Pump Up The Volume. The version in Rock Band is the original album version.

EDIT: Fuck! Two minutes too late.
Which reminds me, has there ever been talking of having two guitar parts available for a song? There are certainly tracks and acts for which you could do a rhythm guitar and lead guiter part.
Maybe for Rock Band 3.
Thanks! Also appears it's on amazon.com's MP3 service on an individual song basis.
Which I why my response was as generic as possible. I see a bunch of derision levied on songs that have a great deal of chords and it just bugs the hell out of me. I get the impression that some folks just haven't figured out that moving away from a guitar focused design means that sometimes that instrument won't be the focus of future content.
We cool?
You're muckin' with a G!
Heh... The UK Surf mix of Wave of Mutilation was actually what got me interested in the Pixies in the first place. I was actually disappointed in how the album version sounded. At first... I still would've preferred Debaser as the on-disc RB1 song, however.
You're muckin' with a G!
Yeah we cool.

Sorry, thats my fault, I assumed since the post was underneath mine, you were commenting on my statements.
Except for Blitzkrieg Bop, that gets a pass.
