This movie is shaping up to be worse than the original Street Fighter.

The original Street Fighter is a goddamn masterpiece.

A masterpiece of trash. But I still love the movie. The Haduken was fucking terrible.

That poster fails hard. None of those people look like anybody from Street Fighter. also, where's Van Damme?

Anybody know when they are releasing oscar nominations? I just heard that Disney is pushing for Wall-E to be nominated for best picture.

I just saw a clip for "Taken." It is a part where Liam Neeson's daughter is taken and he lays down the fact that he will find them and will kill them if they don't release his daughter. All you hear on the other side is "Good Luck." I can't wait for this. Liam Neeson's most bad ass role since Priest Vallon.

    I just saw Taken.
It was alright, but I hated the happy ending. If your daughter was just rescued from sex traffickers after spending days in captivity and seeing her best friend dragged off to be used a hooker, she'd want therapy, not singing lessons.

Neeson was quite good, though, both as a badasss who takes things too far (shooting the French intelligence agent's wife) and as a pained father (when his gift is upstaged and when he finds out his daughter only asked him to lunch to get him to sign papers).

    Also saw Doubt:

I laughed out loud at the heavy-handed metaphor about the cat and mouse and strange, new winds (the winds of change!). The performances were some of the best of the year, though, not just from PSH and Meryl Streep, but Amy Adams as well. I also loved the added complexities of the situation created by the young boy's situation
(his needing to be in the school, his need for a father figure, and his supposed sexual orientation)
and ultimate non-resolution, though Streep's final words were a bit too cryptic for me.
Did she have doubts about whether or not she was right to pursue the priest, or doubts about God as a result of a lifetime of seeing the worst in people and, in her words, taking herself further and further from the lord.

    There's some serious competition for Best Movie this year. I mean, of the top of my head we got;
    Wall-E
    The Dark Knight
    The Wrestler
    Milk
    Doubt
    Frost/Nixon
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
    Revolutionary Road

And I'm sure a bunch of others I'm missing. Personally I don't think Dark Knight was oscar winner caliber, but Wall-E definately was

I would definitely go with Dark Night for a few categories, but not best overall. Best picture, in my opinion, would be Wall-E or from what I've heard Frost/Nixon or Milk.

I watched Dark Knight again, for the first time since I saw it premiere weekend, and I was very disappointed; I liked it a lot less than when I first saw it. I would definitely rate it lower than Batman Begins (my favorite superhero movie), maybe even lower than Iron Man. The only thing that really saves it is Ledger's performance.

what didn't you like tofu? just out of curiosity. I think it's gotten better on repeat viewings. I saw it twice in theater and twice really since it came out, with a few times here and there of just watching a scene.

A lot of little things, I'd have to watch the movie and make a list during so to catalog every niggling detail.

I didn't like the gadgets (sonar, batcycle, servos in the suit, bullet reconstructor).
I didn't like the fight scenes: Batman Begins handles them much better. People complained that you couldn't see Batman punching guys but that was the whole point, he's a ninja. Seeing a guy in a batsuit take on 10 thugs all at once looks incredibly dumb.
I especially didn't like Two Face's CGI (stick with makeup please).

Most of all though, the entire movie is just poorly plotted.
Batman beats the Joker in the end with a device that the audience saw a glimpse of earlier and was the butt of a joke? Batman can't sneak up behind Two Face and disarm him at the end? The batmobile (originally designed by the military) has a hidden escape pod/motorcycle? Batman's suit has sonar vision but he doesn't have a radio to tell Gordon the hostages have been switched? The joker can plant all of these explosives in a hospital/ferry without being noticed?
It's all just poorly thought out and doesn't make sense in the context of the hero presented to us in Begins, he beat Rahz al Ghul by outsmarting him, not with a lucky gadget.

I agree on the gadgets. Every scene focusing on some kind of gadget (bullet reconstruction and cell phone surveilance) could have been cut, and we'd have been left with a better film.

for most of those plot point problems you could easily extend that to batman begins and have the same complaints.

he doesn't sneak up at the end (literally watching that part right now) because he's trying to bring harvey back. I like the fight scenes more, I don't understand how seeing a fight is dumber than not seeing it when the same thing is happening anyway.

for the rest, I guess there's just a level of suspension of disbelief that certain people won't want to go to. that's fine. I personally have no problem believing the batmobile was modified for his specific needs, or that he might have added the batsonar thing but not been able to sync up with the cop's radio. And, I mean if you want to complain about what the joker was able to do you probably can't watch almost any movie with an evil mastermind as their abilities frequently extend beyond what a normal person could do in our real world.

I have to really disagree that it was poorly thought out though, I'm surprised to see that complaint.

So, have you guys heard about 9?

Basically, there's this short film called 9, made in 2005. Not to spoil it too much, but it's a cg animated short about living ragdoll-like creatures that exist in a post apocalyptic Earth. I think it's a cool little film, and the animation and art design are fantastic. Here's a good link to view it (Careful looking for it elsewhere, there's a lot of versions that have a porn soundtrack embedded into the audio, which kills the mood IMO.) http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x1jl41_9-nine-shane-acker-short-animation_creation

    So cool short, right?

Turns out Tim Burton though so as well, and now it's going to be a movie. Like in theaters. With big name actors and shit. The trailer came out recently, and despite being VERY Hollywoodized (lots of action and rock music blaring), I think it keeps the theme of the short in tact; and the animation is definitely stepped up a notch as well.

Did anyone see the Reader? If so, I've got a question.
Were the main character's reasons for not speaking up in Hannah's defense meant to be ambiguous, or did I miss something? I couldn't tell if it was because he thought she deserved to be imprisoned, or if he was ashamed of his relationship with her.
Also, two girls at my showing laughed when the dude showed his penis. I'm sure glad that wasn't my penis!
