Actually, there's some good import games on the VC; Sin and Punishment is excellent, for one. Alien Soldier's decent, though it's a bit more complex than Gunstar Heroes.
Oh yeah, get Gunstar Heroes. And Dynamite Headdy, for that matter. Any other VC Treasure games that i've left out? Probably should get those, too.

I agree that if you haven't played Super Mario RPG before, give it a go. Excellent game. I remember playing that game for hours as a kid. I've still got it kicking around packed up with my SNES.
The Legend Of Zelda: A Link To The Past
The Legend Of Zelda: The Ocarina Of Time
Paper Mario
World Of Goo (Wiiware)
Nothing else matters.

We all know Oblivion was better than Morrowind, right?....RIGHT!?

You know.. I never got into Paper Mario. I bought the GC version when I got my Wii, and never really liked it. Then, I bought the Wii version because I thought the platforming would be a redeeming quality for me, but no dice.
I say Secret of Mana comes before Paper Mario, if you're looking for an action-y RPG.
Figgy: Try the 64 version. I didn't like the GC one either. Not sure why, something about it just threw me off. I enjoy the hell out of the N64 one though.

I'm pretty sure I did try it for a bit. I never did own it but for some reason I remember playing the GC version and linking things back to having played the first one.
you are legally required to purchase Donkey Kong Country 2
Mind if I ask why? It is so fucking inferior to DKC1 in my mind.
Every level in the game is a vertical jumping fest where you can never die because if you miss a jump, guess what? You are on the15 story of the level so at worst you'll fall back down to the 10th level and then you'll climb your way back up. In my mind, the only way to save this game would be if there was no 'backwards' scrolling soo if you fell more than 1 screen lenght you'd die.
DKC1 blows it out of the water with its level design, which when you are playing a platformer is the only thing that matters.
DKC1 is a horizontal platformer than isn't the most forgiving game ever.
DKC2 is a vertical platformer and as far as I can tell, it is impossible to die unless you are 6 years old.
My friend made me get this game with my remaining Wii Points and I've regretted it ever since. I've played through DKC1 like 6 times and got the 101% complete, but I can't stand playing 2.
Download World of Goo over and over again until you start to clog your Wii's internal memory with artifacts from the re-writes and until only World of Goo will fit. Then play it, forever.
World of Goo.

def World Of Goo, but if you are looking for a good party game get TV Show King, we got it in our house and had loads of fun. Its like one of those DVD TV Show games, but ALOT better...

All of the Treasure games that Sega and Nintendo own the rights to (for the current VC-eligible consoles) are on the VC: Gunstar Heroes, Dynamite Headdy, Alien Soldier, Light Crusader, and Sin & Punishment. Most of them are worth looking into.
Gunstar Heroes is a great entry-level sidescrolling shooter. Reasonable difficulty, co-op, the weapon combining system, and all sorts of variety makes it hard not to recommend to anyone.
Headdy is a very creative and original but unrelentingly difficult platformer (unless you're playing the JP version, which is considerably easier). The head mechanic is similar to Ristar's stretchy arms, if you're familiar with that. Also worth checking out, but you might want to look up the level select code if you can't hack it the normal way.
Alien Soldier is a brutally complex and difficult shooter as far as 16-bit games go. It's awesome and one of my favorite games ever, but it's specifically meant to be played by people who thought Gunstar was too easy and didn't have enough bosses.
I don't hate Light Crusader like most other people seem to, but there are better ways you could spend $8.
Sin & Punishment is a superb rail shooter. A lot of people liken it to Star Fox or Panzer Dragoon, but I think Contra + Space Harrier is a more apt comparison. You need a GCN controller or Classic Controller to play it, and I'd strongly suggest going with the latter. The shoulder buttons make a pretty big difference.
EDIT: Oh yeah, we're also talking about WiiWare. Get Megaman 9. Best entry in the classic MM series by far.
well if were talking virtual console i think the ultimate games to get there are toe jam and earl 2 and landstalker. thats skipping the obvious mario/zelda stuff of course.

Secret of Mana for SNES
Phantasy Star IV for...Genesis, I think?
If Super Mario RPG or Phantasy Star IV isn't on that list, remedy it.
God damn you Unbreakable.
Super Mario RPG and Phantasy Star IV are on my list to be among the first downloaded.
dream a little dream or you could live a little dream
sleep forever if you wish to be a dreamer
also, for the op, Lost Winds is supposed to be a nice little platformer.
dream a little dream or you could live a little dream
sleep forever if you wish to be a dreamer
This may no longer be true, I haven't looked at the list in a while.
The Legend Of Zelda: A Link To The Past
The Legend Of Zelda: The Ocarina Of Time
Paper Mario
World Of Goo (Wiiware)
I strongly recommend super mario RPG. Got it a while ago and haven't regretted it.
As for other titles get
Donkey kong country 2
Super metroid
super mario world
zelda: link to the past
3ds code: 1779 0686 9264
What?

This.
Also, for some dumb reason nobody here (including myself in my first post) has said Super Mario 64 and Ocarina of Time yet.
Nothing else matters.

I'll take the jail time over buying that game again
Also Megaman 9 is pretty good but only if you like classic megaman games
World of Goo
World of Goo
All the praise that the various gaming media have heaped on it is truly deserved.
Also Lost Winds is excellent though short and My life as a King can be most addictive if you like that kind of thing.
EDIT: Never mind, just saw a trailer on Youtube.
