mahi mahi is a dolphin the same way a clown fish is a clown

I was about to order Mahi Mahi once, and was scolded by my parents and grandparents that it was Dolphin.
I guess I'm ignorant to what it really is...

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mahi-mahi

It's known as "dolphin fish", but it is in no way, shape or form a dolphin.

I'm not really a fan of steaky fish. If I'm going to plow through a big honking meat slab of animal, why not just have an actual steak.

Also, the greatest meat I've ever tasted was bear meat.

Because it's totally delicious, it cuts with a spoon, and it's actually good for you. And a steal at $16 a pound!

Also, cows are cute but fish are ugly, so I don't feel as guilty eating a fish :P

Being part British, I am very partial to a nice Steak and Kidney pie (or better, Steak and Mushroom). I've been making it myself with puff pastry and Guiness and cheddar cheese, and it is just lovely, despite being a bit of a pain in the butt. I should take a picture of it next time I make it; homemade food porn! :winky:

But I don't mind, as long as there's a bed beneath the stars that shine,

They will yell at and skip you in line if you don't order fast enough at the Beacon. The place is awesome.

I saw that place on Diners Drive-Ins and Dives. Does the awesome old blind guy still work there calling out orders?

I actually hate places that have such good reputations that they can afford (or are even encouraged) to treat customers like shit. Often times the food isn't good enough to warrant abuse. Sometimes it's warranted (don't serve an asshole) and other times it's just annoying bullshit like having to ask three times to get your check.

    MMMMMMM Puerco Pibil!

    b727785e-0d0d-4fce-8214-e8a3cd66bb3e.jpg

    FUCK. YES.

I love making Pibil, even though my recipe comes from a very nerdy source:
Staying on the topic of Mexican food, there is only one place where I will eat restaurant chili in my town, and that place is Netties in Bellevue, NE. It's a pork chili in a thick tomatoey-pepper sauce with no veggies and holy shit I love it so much. It's hotter than the hot sauce in the little dispenser on the table, but the flavor of the chili keeps you going on through bite after tongue-searing bite. Everything else on the menu is good and serviceable (too much grease and cheese sometimes, though), but the chili is goddamn flavor dynamite in a bowl.

... Damn, I think I'm going to make a pot of chili tomorrow...

Rodizo's is a chain of churrascos that has a nasty habit of going for brand name noun replacement.

I've eaten at the one in Denver and it's pretty good, also in a decent "daty" spot in an Neat Old Building Near the Trendy District

Is this the new dnd cooking thread or just a restaurant whore thread?

The beginning made me assume the latter, but now it looks more like the former

  • NatanekoNataneko Registered User
I think it's a cooking thread, I just didn't have any picture of food I cooked myself. :|

Anyway. I like that most of the time, restaurant pay some attention to the way they serve food, it makes it seems more tasty. I always have argument with my mom because she makes good food but it look so bad I don't even want to taste it. That's why I didn't eat vegetables for so many years. they all look the same when they're mashed in something else. Also there's too many brown food.

The cooking thread is much more specialized. This thread is for a general discussion of your favorite foods, both local and exotic. No one in the cooking thread wants to hear about that awesome fruit crepe you made love to last weekend at your favorite French dessert restaurant, but we welcome your story with open arms here! (Pics plz)

Some of my favorite foods in no specific order:

    - fish tacos

    - gyros

    - pasta with white sauce or pink sauce

    - frybread

we have this little unassuming Indian restaurant called 'Asian Garden' (India is in Asia, FYI). They don't get a ton of business because most people think it's a Chinese food joint, but in fact it's totally tits. They give you an unlimited supply of frybread, which is really bad because they also let you eat as much as you want for like 7 dollars.
