Also: As far as I'm concerned, Northern Ireland is not part of Great Britain. There are people who disagree. Therein lie the problems of the last 400 or so years.

Do you honestly think the million or so Protestants up there would have been treated fairly had their country been amalgamated into the Republic with it's vast catholic majority?

Probably about as fairly as Oliver Cromwell treated the Catholics in the North.

So two wrongs make a right?
Guys we already have a Palestine/Israel thread

    ...wait a second...

You know, when the Glasgow football clubs decided to crack down on the sectarian shit, one of the things they did was prohibit Irish Tricolours, The Red Hand of Ulster, and the Union Flag from matches. So the two sides starting bringing Palestinian and Israeli flags instead.

I wish I was making that up.

    That's kind of awesome

It's really not. It's completely retarded in every sense.

It's often difficult to explain this to people from outside Scotland, but for a lot of these idiots they really mean it. They will sing "The Sash" in the stands and mean every fucking word.

People get killed over this. Routinely.

People here affiliate themselves with celtic for no other reason their catholicism. People really don't seem to get how fucking retarded that is.

I never said that. I was in Omagh when this happened: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Omagh_bombing

But last I checked it wasn't the Irish Catholics "settling" (stealing land) from the English with the blessing of the monarchy.

I was going to say, correct in the technical, dictionary definition sense, but complicated by the fact that people in Ulster are still correctly identified as British. Plus, say it to the wrong person and you'll start fights.

What? Omagh was an IRA job. I'm saying I have no love for either side, but I still know damn well who started it when Oliver fucking Cromwell began "granting land" to Protestant settlers- ie taking it from the Catholics who lived on those farms originally.
