    Back when I was playing FEAR combat, the leaning functionality just looked and felt right to me. It just seemed to flow with the combat better.

    Extraction Point was fun, but it did do awful things to the story. I didn't touch Perseus Mandate.

    Hopefully the scenes where you shift location completely and end up in oceans of blood and see beds on the wall and shit are utterly of the hook this time around. I demand Eternal Darkness to the power of Silent Hill.

    Oh, and how about we get a black character who doesn't make me roll my eyes so hard that I sprain them? Thanks?

    I did love the fact that you could kick open doors. Nothing says awesome like busting down a door and getting on with the lead spraying.

    That was something I was really hoping they'd keep for the sequel.

    I knew about the penetrator. :winky:

    And the environments are fine. To be honest, I got so caught up in the shooty-shooty-slowmo-shooty bits that I didn't even think about how repetitive the entire game was. Shit, now I can't stop thinking that. Dammit scarab D:

    Can't really talk about Alma since I've not yet seen how she's used in the new game but the original definitely could have utilised her creepiness more. I found the human enemies far more terrifying.

    I'm totally down with this. Nice to see it back after the lame expansions. FEAR multiplayer was actually a pretty standard part of our LANs at one point, pretty much owing to the ridiculous one-hit-kill acrobatics and gross (but hilarious) grenade abuse. My brother actually resorted to just holding out a grenade the entire goddamn time and running at people like a crazed madman. Not only do you run faster without a weapon, but grenades detonate on impact. That shit was scarier than anything in the singleplayer game.

    If FEAR 2 can deliver like the previous, then it's gonna be hella fun times.

    One thing I disliked about FEAR's weapons was that the automatics felt floaty. I think it was largely down to the fact that the sound wasn't linked to what you were firing, when you pressed the trigger a few shots went out but the sound file associated with that burst had a lot more "bullets" as part of the sound for that action, made it feel weird. That, and it was impossible to fire off single shots.

    Just make the shotgun an equivalent or superior weapon of almighty death, and we're good to go.

    edit: I generally used the big assault rifle that you get fairly early on (not the SMG-like one) and that felt tactile enough for my liking.

    Norton Mapes is easily one of the best characters ever put into a game.

    I usually have a hard time caring one way or another about most FPS characters, but he was probably the first character that genuinely wound me up so much that I ended up just wanting to chuck him out the nearest window. Not because he was an escort character or sidekick with dodgy AI, but because everything about him just made you want to punch his fat face into a wall.

    One of my favourite bits in FEAR is one time when you're walking through a corridor you see a discarded cheetos packet on the floor, and that music cue plays, and you just know who's going to be around the next corner corner.

    No kicks makes me sad. Slo-mo Flykicking some unsuspecting guy in the back of the head was great.

    Although as long as the shotgun is there things should be ok.

    Yeah that does suck... one of my favourite things to do in FEAR was a no weapons run on the hardest setting... so awesome flying kicking and roundhousing to victory, and then having a heavily armed squad fleeing in terror from your ninja skills.

    Just borrow the first one. The expansions are just filler made by some other guys. And to be honest you'll get enough offices, warehouses and treatment plants without playing them

    If you can't kick people I'm not sure I want to play this.

    At the very least I'll be waiting for it to come way down in price because fuck rewarding bad decisions.

    Also I feel culturally removed from you guys as I just found Norton funny (and slightly disgusting) like a big ol clown. I didn't particularly want to kill him.

    Oh, and that quote from PC Zone since people keep asking about it:
    F.E.A.R's neat melee combat system has sadly bitten the dust (floor slides and roundhouse kicks replaced by the usual gun butt-slam to the head), but the grenade quota has grown to cover explosions of both electrical and fiery persuasion as well as the usual timed and proximity explosions

    So yeah, that sucks. I suspect that whatever the "electrical" grenade is going to be, it's not going to be enough to replace slide kicking a dude's shins.

    Uh wow. That's a sad thing indeed about the melee combat. I loved the slide and jump kick maneuvers.

    I can't imagine what reasoning they had to take one of the few good unique points of the game and scrap it. I was looking forward to them maybe even expanding on that a little.

    The PC Gamer UK guys on their podcast basically said, wait until you read the review before buying this game. Which usually means it's not that good. :(
