    man, unanimous vote

how often does that kind of thing even happen in politics

let alone twice in a row

Well in the Senate everyone voted unanimously with Obama's idea to delay the national transition to Digital Television, given the economic circumstances of the moment.

Then in the House the Republicans voted almost unanimously against the delay because....Obama asked for it? I guess? Obstructionism is the new substance? I don't really know.

because it would cost the television companies a bunch of money to continue broadcasting in both digital and analog for another few months

and it would cost the wireless companies waiting to use the airspace a lot of money sitting on their hands for another few months

because it was kind of dumb that we've been having TV commercials and stuff for about six months now warning us that the switch was going to happen in February only for it to get changed at the last minute

I don't think accepting does either.

In fact I feel that what Annie and people like him do is the opposite of accepting it. It's about being overwhelmed and withdrawing from it -- whatever "it" is, in this case corruption -- about refusing to come to terms with the way things are and finding a way to act progressively and positively regardless, or even to act in counter to what you've accepted does exist.

To reduce it to an uninterested public watching Top Chef and recoil from what is implicitly being detailed as a hopeless system is facile. Which is to say, it's easy. It's lazy. It's simple and superficial and hardly mature enough to qualify as accepting reality.

    to my mind, anyway.
I wasn't really suggesting that there is no recourse. I was more responding to the guy's point about the status quo, not the direction of progress. I personally might be detached and worthless, but that's not specifically attached to politics and governance. I have more generic teleological issues that make me a waste of flesh. I don't agree with all of your positions, but I'm certainly not going to discourage you from pursuing them.

And for the record, I was watching Top Chef when I made the post referencing it.

uh it's a big deal because he's an arrogant douchebag who basically brought the state government to a standstill for four years?

because he knew he was under investigation and still ran his mouth about selling senate seats?

    because he's batshit insane?

I get the feeling that this wouldn't be more than a blip if Obama wasn't a senator of Illinois before his ascension to the Presidency.

    no, geebs is right

if you lived in illinois you'd know that nothing fucking got done here while he was in office

we have hardly progressed in those four years

blagojevich was always a douchebag that everyone hated, it's just that now we actually have a reason to kick him out of office

    but

didn't the people of your state elect him

then did it again in november

guess who else got elected twice

    bill clinton?

I play games on ps3. My PSN is DouglasDanger.

So apparently it is illegal in my state to sell your child. But it is NOT illegal to buy one.

Some guy offered to buy a lady's kid, she bitched, and now, at the expense of many tax dollars, there is now a jail sentence and $100k fine if you offer to buy someone's kid.

    WHAT THE FUCK, MARYLAND?
