Please don't steal my idea guys, but I am doing crop circle portraits of Gabe and Tycho. Does any one have a plane I can borrow for some aerial photographs? A little Cessna or something?

edit: Nevermind, Khoo just destroyed my artistic vision.

*Puts away his interpretive dance spandex bodysuit, dejected*

EDIT: In all seriousness, though, does that mean no paintings, even if they're photographed at the proper resolution for submission?

Oops - let me clarify. paintings are perfectly acceptable and totally awesome assuming they can be photographed at the proper resolution.

O Great Khoo, are you saying that traditional paintings/digital paintings, sculptures/3D modeling, and traditional drawing/digital drawing, are all welcome provided they conform to the parameters you specified earlier- that they must be submitted as a digital image 8.5 inches by 11 inches, portrait orientation, at 400dpi resolution?

Maybe you can submit it in the form of lots of smaller images on one page, which readers can then cut out and assemble to make a flip book?

Okay, I now understand that i am really bad at making up rules to art contests.

What I'm saying is that if it's a painting or drawing, digital or otherwise, it is acceptable. Otherwise, no. Sculptures or 3D models.

But apparently crop circles are okay.

How about I travel to the midwest, find a farm, make the crop circles, get in a plane and take the photo, then do a drawing using the photo as a reference. I don't want to make you uncomfortable with your own rules.

Betel, you can just cut out the middle step and take your drawing supplies on the plane. I figure if you make small circles in the air, you should get a good 20 seconds of reasonably constant angle per pass.

Usually, fanart consists of a drawing, as the name suggest (fan art), but could it be a strip? Could it have panels and a punchline?

Wait, wait...so if I wove something out of hair I've collected from Tycho and Gabe over the past few years, would that count as two-dimensional, or 3D? I mean, I could probably fit it in a scanner; I just wanted to be clear.

Sorry for being pains in the asses about the rules, guys.

Yeah I remember that, it wasn't too long ago. As long as you have a large enough version to meet the print requirements.

While the submission has to be in portrait orientation, can the piece be designed to be viewed in landscape and then just submitted rotated 90 degrees? There's nothing to stop the reader turning the book to the side, after all.

If you are only looking for portrait pieces then I'll go ahead and think about something different.
