Hundreds of baby spiders in my house

Ok, as the title sugests i now have a large number of baby spiders crawling around the roof of my living room/kitchen. I discovered them about 2-3days ago and it seems that a spider layed eggs somewhere in my house (remnants of which i have not found yet).

My house gets the occasional huntsman spider (which i usually escort outside rather than killing) and it seems most likely that it is one of these which did the deed.

Basically, i'm looking for advice on how to get rid of them. They are rather spread out across the roof, but i allways see one or two crawling across the kitchen/tv/counter/table etc so it is possible that there are quite a few in other places too. They also tend to condense around a light when i leave one on at night (but not ridiculously like moths etc). They aren't a huge problem but it is very annoying to have them around and i don't want a whole hoard of hunstman growing up inside my house.

Any advice on how to get rid of them? Please bare in mind that i live in Australia so that US products may not be available. I also don't have a camera atm for photos but can probably borrow one if it is needed.

I honestly don't have any advice but if I had that many spiders in my house I would be crying like a little girl, typing up my suicide note on a facebook drinking a no-creame frappechino from Starbucks or somthing.

The last thing we need to see is more terrifying photographs of spiders on the Internet.

Well im not an arachniphobe so they don't really bother me immensely yet.

Also, they're TINY! Like a cm across at the max.

Also don't start making jokes about Australia and its creatures. I've lived here for ~20years and this is the first time it has happened.

You sure that will kill them?

These things are damn resilient. I've tryed squishing them with a tissue and the only way to kill them is to squish then basically scrub vigorously.

Sure, insect-specific neurotoxins are great. just get the Mortein can with the spider on it (well there's a few, but they have pictures on the back for those of us who can't be arsed reading things in Coles). Definitely opt for the hypo-allergenic and/or low-odor one if you can, though. Bug spray smells like awful even when you know it can't hurt you.

I sympathise, I have ants invading every corner of the house right now. Every morning, I go for a shower and there's a hundred or so sitting in the corner of the bath, all holding little tiny sponges and wearing miniscule shower caps*. I'm just glad our kitten is murdering all the cockroaches...

*with holes cut out for the antennae, of course.

I guarentee that my ant problem is worse than yours. I gave up on them ages ago. I have to put almost every sort of condiment into the fridge because of them. But thats getting a little off topic, im not really worried about the ants.

Any other sugestions or pieces of advice?

Edit: Is there a reason to go for the low odor one if i plan to spray it on them then go off to work?

No. I just really hate the smell of bug spray. There's not much else you can do except ask the landlord to get a pest control guy in. They can at least lay a barrier of stuff that lasts around the outside of the house. I'll be asking next time we get inspected.

Palming it off to the landlord isn't really an option since my grandma owns the house (long slightly complicated story).

I could get a pest guy in, but i dont really wanna spend alot if i don't absolutely have to.

If you can identify where they're getting in or passing through, you could use surface spray on those spots.

I have fairly good reason to believe that they were hatched inside and are just chillin.

The insects get in due to the house not having flyscreens and it being damn hot. Also random holes.

Yeah, but in your op you mentioned that they gather in spots. Hit it with surface spray and they'll just walk to their deaths.

Otherwise the problem will sort itself out as they mature and eat each other until the population stabilizes again.

Of course, with one giant concentrated blob of protein living in the house, they could all conspire to bring it down.

Just get a little hand-held vacuum and suck them up when you spot them.

Thank you, I'm going to have nightmares about this now.

Re: OP, I had this porblem once. When I got out of the shower, the ceiling was covered in tiny black spides. Scared the shot out of me. Then I mad-ed up and got a vaccum. Taught them what's what alright.

If you do vaccum them up, put a sandwhich bag or something over the end of the tube and secure it with a rubber band. At one point I had a ton of flying ants in my apartment, and disposed of them via vaccum. The plastic bag was instrumental in keeping them trapped in the old vaccum cleaner.

We have a mosquito problem in our cellar every summer (yes, there are 31 types of mosquito in the UK) and me and my daughter are allergic to their bites. Lewie's dad just sucks em up in the vacuum cleaner. It works for a while, then he does it again. Gives him something to do in the evening other than football.

Do you have ants in your car? I had ants in my car, for about a month, every time I drived. I started seeing them when they weren't even there.

I briefly had a problem in my apartment, which inevitably went away after I started spraying bugspray on every window, and on my porch sliding glass door. I figure that's a decent way to treat the invasion of any pest from outdoors.

Do they not have bug bombs in Austrailia? My house borders a large field, so about once a year the insects (and spiders) start moving in. I just buy 4-6 bug bombs (depending on how many sq ft (or sq meters) your house is) set those off and go out for a day. Problem solved when you get back. The smell only lingers for about 1 day, then no bugs. Easy, cheap, works.

I recommend a combo of spider bug spray and the hose extension on the vacuum cleaner. Suck those bad boys up really good, just remember that they'll be alive in the bag/canister and to take it outside when you're done. Then spray liberally around your house in areas you saw them.

Ok i think try the vacuum/bug spray idea and see where it leaves me. Maybe i'll spray it in the vacuum bag.
