TT Games and Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment have teamed up once again to deliver an all-new Lego experience to the Nintendo DS, this time simply focusing on the toys themselves with Lego Battles.

Lego Battles is a game for the Nintendo DS that combines three popular Lego toy lines - Lego Castle, Lego Pirates and Lego Space - allowing players to create bases and customized squads in order to engage in more than 70 different levels worth of fierce block combat, or head-to-head via Nintendo DS wireless multi-card play. Players will mix and match units from all three Lego sets, resulting in epic confrontations the likes of which we've only dreamed about. A pirate ship filled with ninja versus a spaceship manned by wizards? It's the kind of stuff you'd find airbrushed on the side of a van 30 years ago.

“LEGO® Battles offers players the action-packed and humor-filled gameplay that make LEGO games great, along with the added bonus of linked multiplayer battles on DS,” said Tom Stone, Managing Director, TT Games Publishing. “We are excited to introduce a new LEGO videogame experience to fans and young gamers and look forward to expanding upon the beloved toy lines.”

So the next Lego title from TT games isn't Lego Transformers. It's time to see if the Lego brand can stand on its own two blocking legs. Look for Lego Battles to erupt on the Nintendo DS this summer.

Everything about this game points to it being a huge win and possibly the best lego game ever.

    Lego Space, Pirate, and Castle
    RTS style gameplay
building castles/bases as well as forming a custom army
    online battles

This game is going to be awesome.

Oh and lowly...no, appearantly the DS can do anything and continues to own my life. :(

I agree, this sounds like a nice change of style. Plus them using the classic toy sets is touching my memories of buying some of these classic sets.

I hope they allow you to build your bases from scratch. That would be pretty cool.

I'd buy two. Hell, I'd buy two if it was just a virtual box of legos. Also, there better be a 'tower defense' mode where you can build your castle, watch it get overrun, improve the design, and repeat - I spent WEEKS doing that with Legos as a kid, and if they bring that in handheld form I'll probably starve to death because I'll actually forget to eat.

That's the new Pirate lego chick from the new Pirate sets, and yes, she does has cleavage.

Namco owns it. Ridge Racer DS is actually a port of Ridge Racer 64. It's a lot closer to the original game that the PSP version is, but is not anywhere near as visceral.

But we're sorta getting offtopic I guess.

Ridge Racer is "officially" a Sony IP.
The Ridge Racer series has hit two Nintendo systems and the Xbox 360. R: Racing Evolution hit the GameCube and Xbox as well as the PS2, although one could argue that it's not technically a Ridge Racer game. It hasn't really be a pseudo-official Sony IP in a while.

It definitely started off as a mainly Sony IP though. When the original Ridge Racer was released at the launch of the PS1 it was a showcase for the system. It was designed to show that the PS1 was capable of full fledged arcade to console ports, compared to the Sega Saturn and it's terrible port of Daytona USA (although the CCE version fixed that somewhat). Then Ridge Racer Revolution oh fuck it I sshould just make a Ridge Racer thread.

Also, I am hoping that they bring back all of the old factions that don't seem to exist anymore. Stuff like the old Black Knights, Wolfpack, and Majesto. I loved Castle Legos when I was a kid. Little dragons with the hole in their mouth where you could mount the fire piece, little brown bows and arrows for my forest dudes, glow in the dark ghosts.

Fuck yes, this stuff was the best. I remember getting knights with the helmet with a visor that could open and close, it was the coolest thing in the world. The castles I built were the most fun I had as a kid.

My brother built a giant castle one time and made up a game pretty similar to Warhammer where we each had armies trying to defend/storm the castle, and each one could move a certain number of dots each turn etc.

I remember doing that. We'd take the Lego bucket and each build a small base and try to destroy eachother. But we ran out of Lego men so we used the Lego men as super powered generals and just used coloured bricks as the men. It was awesome.
