Or if you just want some simple (almost nigh-Orky, even) fun, pick up Borka Keglayer
EDIT: And in FUCK I SUCK AT THIS news, finally primed my shit... and fucked up about half of it badly. Due to having them all pinned on one big styrofoam block, I can barely make out the armor/feather detail on pLylyth and the Striders after only two coats. Time to break out the Pine Sol.
The Mauler is a little much for Madrak to handle with his low Fury stat of 5. I recommend dropping him in favor of a unit of Trollkin Champions. Under the Protective Aura, they'll be DEF 16 in melee (assuming base-to-base and Surefoot) with Arm 19 and 8-10 wounds each. Champions are essential to the Madrak brick army, which is what he is est suited for.
Trolls have the Kriel stone (fury bank [!] with AoE buffs)
Legion has the Spawning Vessel (make free lesser warbeasts as your opponent dies/kills you??)
Circle has both the Sentry Stone, and the shifting stones. Both providing different buffs/abilities.
Skorne has nothing like this.
All of these things are slightly mobile buff points for your army, they provide some interesting flavor to the army, that brings out something classy and a new mechanic to play with.
From what I have read the Skorne are the Dark evles of the IK setting, torture, destruction, house feuds and such. But they don't have any fun toys like the other armies. Sure theres the AG, but its just a solo that collects some souls, and might eventually get into combat.
Just seems Skorne needs some flavor added to it, like a unit rework to give them some competitive edge. Either bring out the vampire schtik, allowing them to heal whenever they kill some one, or stop double playing the soul crap: Hexeris's defining spell does not grant a soul from the unit its cast on when they die. Our specialized death squad (Immortals) do not grant souls either, but are influenced by the AG's buffs.
It seems Skorne is supposed to run infantry heavy, with alot of fodder for souls to beef the AG's and Extollers, which in turn buff the Immortals. Seems kind of wacky if you ask me.
Sorry to rant, just been looking around and it seems Skorne is rather undefined, and could use either a flavor unit, or a whole unit rework so they all have something like the other Horde armies.
(Trolls: Tough, Circle: Pathfinder, Legion: Eyeless sight/pathfinder)
That aside, it has even less blatantly broken tricks than Cygnar. However, unlike Cygnar, Skorne doesn't rely on defensive buffs like Arcane Shield half the time.
Joline Lovejoy: Gifted Priest/Pistoleer - Chains of Corvis IKRPG
Between the cheap Karax (which every army list should have 1 base unit of) and the overly powerful Cetrati. A well managed brick of Skorne is impossible to charge effectively. With just 1 Extoller/AG they don't mind losing units on a bad roll or being out maneuvered. But, it still seems they have a bit less definition then the other Hordes armies.
I think one of the quickest ways to make Skorne a little more scary and defined is to allow the Paingivers to effect hostile beasts, as well as debuff them in melee/reach range. Also (and here I am unclear) the enemies dead should grant the skorne player souls unless the controller can use them.
I.E. Skorne v Trolls, Swordsmen kill some champions the dead champions will give the skorne player extra souls beyond his own infantry.
Skorne v Skorne, Swordsmen engage enemy Karax, the Karax killed by your swordsmen would go to you, and the swordsmen killed by the karax would go to him. Some sort of "vampiric" ritual fluff could explain this.
It would give your opponents a scare to run in and see 10 souls feed into your AG, making him a death machine instantly. One reason I say this is because the AG consumes the souls, and with only the friendly Skorne providing them there is a finite limit to this. Enemies should feed the Skorne blood lust.
Just an idea.

Hmm...
Not crazy about this one.
I agree with this sentiment. Looks like he ought to be saying "Why I oughta-!"
Seriously, the pose is silly.
Not to mention the belt... Still like the overall concept of the miniature, I do like how tall and relatively skinny he is. Hopefully re-posing the arms wont be too much of a green stuffing job.
I'm curious as to why they didn't post the circle unique beast. Especially after they gave us the other three factions.
Also: Here's an interesting thread over on the PP forums showing the relative size of the new beasties based on base width.

Pretty interesting how much taller the satyr is then the other ones we've seen.
Thank god for payday.

:^:
Silver armor and weapons, gray leathers. I think it would make the skin really pop from the rest of the gear.
Might even violate Madrak's fluff and do him red too, and not all albino.
I love the look of my Trollbloods, too. I did mine up like ice trolls since I was going with the Borka theme.
Ended up getting a basic box of Ravagers marked 25% off at the game store. I just need to order two more Ravagers, two Whitemanes, and the UA. That's what I love about Hordes: Support solos are -useful- and are not a bad thing if fielded in pairs.
Heh. I got a nasty strategy for a 1000 point game.
Kromac and Morvahna:
Get druids, swamp gobbers, and mannikins to constantly produce a wall of smoke and forest templates to block line of sight and force the opponent to come in closer. I might even get a second unit of druids to cast Counter-Magic and cover the first unit as it casts the storm cloud spell if I face Cryx or something. But this is only if I have spare points.
So once this happens, I'll position a full unit of Ravagers + UA behind these guys with Regrowth on. I'll have two Blackclads and two Whitemanes parked to the sides. Every turn, I'll launch a Wayfarer Bomb at the other side as the army closes in. Once they're spent, I'll do the same by teleporting a Brutality'd Whitemane across enemy lines via the Shifting Stones (By the time the third turn comes around, hopefully something's within 8 inches of my army), otherwise, I'll just use their 5 inch blood assault then charge, and have my Ravagers follow in and tear face.
Kromac would have the Pureblood, a Woldwarden, and a Woldwatcher. Morvahna would have another Woldwarden, a Woldwyrd, and another Woldwatcher. I wonder how many points this takes up.

I don't know, it's really not that big a deal if the mauler goes beserk once in a while - it'll almost always be stuck in good when it does.
If you're taking the mauler for its animus, though, I'd say look hard at a pyre troll and maybe a second fell caller - that gives you a pretty damn good ranged salvo and the pyre troll animus is a beast as well.
To the forum: Guys, correct me if I'm wrong, but you can't charge and do a starred attack, right? I mean, you can move and do a star attack, but you can't charge and get the charge bonus to moving and damage, right?
Joline Lovejoy: Gifted Priest/Pistoleer - Chains of Corvis IKRPG
You can make a Special Attack after charging and you do get the boosted damage roll on the first attacks damage roll if you hit. Just note its only the first attack so if its something like Thresher which possibly grants multiple attacks then only the first gets the charge bonus.
Jeremiah + Guided Fire + a Thunderhead's Energy Pulse = chunky infantry salsa.
(Finally got around to putting him together, had him sitting around for a couple months. I'm definitely digging him on a fresh read-through of his abilities.)
COME FORTH, AMATERASU!

ANYWAY, I compiled my Ravager list of doom. I'm pleasantly surprised at how much I was able to fit in. Kinda sad that I had to dump my extra shifting stones and white mane, but I think the druids are essential and I'm not getting rid of them. I really don't want to dump the second Sentry Stone either. So looks like I'll have to dump one Blackclad too...

I am excited to go down on Thursday and play some battle box games though, I also ordered the rest of the TB army up to 500 points. But I see myself buying much more, I do hope the local community gets a few more players, I hear its 6-8 guys (regulars).
Do something unique! DESERT TROLLS
Painted most of my infantry and even a bunch of terrain pieces. Cant wait for the bloodgorgers to be released next week! What do you guys think of my blood red scheme?
Argus, Gorax, and Lord of the Feast.
Oh god. My wallet.
Joline Lovejoy: Gifted Priest/Pistoleer - Chains of Corvis IKRPG
Argus? Who needs argii?
I like it quite a bit! It breaks up the unreleaved black of the regular cryx colors but without brightening it up. My tau are gray and maroon or I'd think seriously about biting it off for myself.

Turn order:
Player 1: Vlad, Drakhun, Kayazy + UA, Yuri and two manhunters, Eyriss, Aiyana and Holt (lolinfantrymachine)
Player 2: Morghoul, Rhinodon, Krea, Cetrati, Cyclops Savage, two AGs, Gobbers, and Paingivers
Player 3: Haley, Thunderhead, B13, Journeyman, Hunter, and 3 Storm Lances
Me: Morvahna, Pureblood Warpwolf, Woldwatcher, Woldwyrd, Bloodtrackers, two Sentry Stones, Gudrun the Wanderer.
I deployed off in one corner with the Haley player to my left and the Vlad player to my right. Haley player is Khador player's little brother, getting into the game. Not liking Khador very much and liking Haley even less, I decided to show him how fucked up Circle can be. Right off the bat, I ambuscaded his Hunter to death and switched targets to the Storm Lances, denting two of them.
Gudrun ran up in front of one of the sentry stones and got shot down by Master Holt.
Khador player sent his forces towards the middle of the table, but mostly towards the Skorne player, who, in true Skorne fashion, was slowly crawling up the table in a Cetrati brick. Let them beat each other up, whatever. Cygnar player was a bit confused as to who to go after but went with me in the end.
With some help from the other two players, he got off a wicked TB assisted cav charge that wiped out enough Bloodtrackers to prevent me from regrowing the unit at full strength. (With Harvest and Regrowth up, I can only bring back 5 at the most) Two bloodtrackers less, but I was still doing fine.
My turn again, I finished off his Cavalry. Gudrun went after the invisible Aiyana and Holt, but missed. Mannikin popped up behind him and asploded himself to spray over the three. I somehow miraculously managed to get Aiyana and killed her off. Master Holt failed his command check and booked it. It was either on this turn or the next where my Pureblood smacked Haley in the face with a Warp Strike.
Blah blah. It's like waiting for my turn in Valkyria Chronicles. Skorne and Khador butted heads. I think Vlad died this round. Or the next. But his army still lived on. Drakhun and eventually Yuri decided to pay my Sentry Stones a visit, destroying one. Temporal Barrier kicked in again, and Thunderhead killed enough bloodtrackers to again bring down my unit total to about a basic-sized unit. I'm fine with that.
My turn. If I didn't kill the lances last turn, I did this turn. My new prey was the Black 13th and they ate Ambuscade. (Yay for working under TB because it's not a charge) Pre-emptive fire didn't work because I managed to nail them from just over five inches away. Journeyman ate it not long after.
Yawn. Khador vs Skorne. Whatever. In a hilarious attempt to kill Morv, a Manhunter ran up next to my other sentry stone, Yuri charged him to get in melee range of the invisible Sentry Stone. Didn't roll enough on his Flying Steel to be able to take down the stone, which was blocking the way for the Drakhun to kill Morvahna. I honestly wanted the Drak to run at her. I had Vigilance up, and he only had a couple health left.
Haley again casts T- oh wait! My Woldwyrd's within shooting distance! I burn up some Fury to boost and hit her, then managed to roll a 16, dealing 9 damage total, JUUUUST enough to kill her outright. The wardog was my new prey, and unfortunately, the damn dog ripped the throat out of a bloodtracker that tried spearchucking it down. I just ran the rest up towards the middle of the table. Okay. Vlad died THIS round. Dog went away, Morghoul became my new prey.
I ended up winning in the end. I completely ignored the Khador forces since he couldn't win anymore (Due to a lack of a caster). A well placed spear made Morghoul transfer to the Rhinodon earlier, and his Relentless spell moved him aside. In an attempt to clear charge lanes (And interpreted by me as an attempt to keep my Warpwolf from OM NOM NOMMING its Animus), Cetrati killed the nearly dead Krea. Morvahna personally took out the Rhinodon and the Cyclops was well out of Morghoul's control area. He went after me, and Vigilance kicked in. I managed to roll a 9 and hit the dodgy bastard, and took out half his life. Morghoul hit me for 8 damage, but I just transferred it back to him and killed him.
Fuck yeah.

First game was just a battle box rules run through. I lost terribly to Skorne, but mostly because the guy who was supposed to be educating me neglected to bring up rules like: getting slammed into objects, getting knocked down, and how morg can for some reason have 10 fury.
Second game Troll v Troll at 350 points.
Me: Madrak, impaler, axer, champs, Krielstone (4)
Opponent: Grissel, Impaler, Mauler, Rosh/Brine, Fellcaller
First turn, we run run run. Second turn he runs his mauler in front of a mountain to try and get a charge lane, as my champs move forward and slaughter the fell caller (grissel was denying charges that turn). My round I throw a spear at the mauler and get a lucky crit, this slammed the mauler back into the mountain. The spear did like 12 damage, the slam did 11, mauler was nearly dead at this point. Champs move up on the hill to take the +def bonus, and my axer moves to screen Madrak from Brine. Kriel stone moved in the middle to cover nearly everyone with the +arm aura.
Mauler gets up and starts to get ready for another attempt at a charge by advancing. Brine moves in to rip stuff up and hurt my feelings (this puts the mauler and Brine right next to each other by the mountain). He also set up some kind of rough terrain around rosh, preventing me from charging him. He also feated Grissel this round, preventing charges, giving +1 melee hit, and 5" move to everything.
During my round on turn three, I moved the champs around to screen in the middle of the table, this screened against the Impaler, and threatened Rosh from running around to much. I tried to chuck a spear at Brine, but missed twice in a row. Axer moves forward and ties of Brine so he couldn't charge the semi-exposed Madrak. I put a little damage on Brine with this, but the axer is now running with 3 fury, and the Impaler has 2, with Madrak needing to keep at least 1...I was running hot.
I was getting kind of scared at this point. The mauler was right there (albeit bleeding), Brine was going to eat the Axer, and I was just unable to charge anything. So I dropped a Stone Fall on the mauler, killing him, and damaging Brine.
Top of turn 4: He moves Brine out and away totally ignoring the Axers miss, and hits Madrak hard, Rosh moves out and takes a pot shot at Madrak. By now I have transferred, used my no card and nearly lost the game (Madrak now has 2 circles left).
Bottom of turn 4: I realize this is it I get maybe this round, and thats the end. I move the Axer in on Brine, killing him. The Impaler nails Rosh for nearly enough to kill him. Champs cruise down the hill to try and charge, but can't...Here is where I learned I hated Grissel. I run all my beasts hot again, and boost my +arm aura, keeping one fury to transfer. While moving Madrak out of combat with brine (who misses the free strike) .
Top of turn 5: On Brines last activation (death throws) he kills the axer (I reave 3 fury). Impaler damages my Impaler, nearly killing him (3 circles left). Rosh tries to blow up Madrak, but the screen I made with my Krielstone denies him, and I lose 1. He throws up Hoof it, and moves Grissel in a charge lane against Madrak. Keep in mind Grissel is at full health here, and his Impaler is bearly scratched.
Bottom of turn 5: Champs charge Grissel, 3 get in base to base, with one in base to base with Rosh (Rosh damages a few, but kills none). My Impaler frenzies and charges his Impaler, tying it up but does minimal damage. Here comes the deciding point, my warlock is nearly dead, My only warbeast left is frenzied and I have no hope after this round. Its all about the champs...They OBLITERATE Grissel. Mowing her down like a scythe cutting grain.
I won my second game ever through some good luck, and an excellent Impaler slam on turn 2 that nuked the Mauler. Brine is nasty though, and I am considering buying one just to mess with my opponents like he did. Between the rough terrain spell, and Brine being a killer even after you kill him...
Fuck Yeah.

I live in constant fear of the local game group disbanding all at once and having no one to play with.
But today my fears where eased a little, I went down to get a 2" foam tray for my troop transport (damn trollblood medium bases) and found 3 Hordes/WM games going on a Sunday (we usually play on Thursdays).
I wanted to go get my stuff and play, but I have painting to do! Plus they are all playing 750 lists for a tourny we have having, one which I can not participate in since I don't have 750 points worth of trolls!
Especially in my case. There's only so much I could do with Cygnar, but then I bought into Circle and I can't see myself playing Cygnar again for a good while. I'm having too much fun with these tricky, speedy, woodsy bastards.
