There's a brilliant article somewhere by a BDSM advocacy group which took pictures of their members engaging in their favoured pastime, and went round various Police services, the CPS, various Lawyers, and the Home Office trying to get someone to clarify whether or not they were illegal.
I'm sat in front of my computer, in the back room of my house, and there's a door about ten feet behind me to my left over my shoulder, and the TV is down the far right of the room so I'm like in the corner of the room.
My dad gets up from watching the football, and walks out of the room, but on his way loudly exclaimed:
"STAN COLLYMORE, ABSOLUTE TWAT!"
Almost to himself whilst leaving the room.

I hate sinus infections because my stomach feels full so I can't really eat anything but I have no actual energy because I haven't eaten anything.
Are you saying that even though your stomach thinks it's full of food, it's snot?
Yes. And it's awful, especially because I have to go 20 feet up in the air and take down and put up heavy lights on the lighting grid in about an hour to set up for some stupid debate tomorrow night.
Plat you should talk to my gf sometime she does lots of chemistry type stuff
Yeah she knows a lot about chemistry. especially organic chemistry and its applications within human interaction. She educates everyone she meets.
There's some on one thing, but to get it off and put it where it needs to go I need the Swiss Army Knife that I think I left at your house. If you found a black one with a bit of black gunk on the can-opener, that's mine.
No, for Descrates there the ego cannot be the result of a physical process, and this he founds this precisely because of his extremely scientific philosophy. After all, Descartes philosophy was in part an attempt to vindicate Galileo. His dualism breaks down as such: res extensa, the physical world, is everything which takes up space and moves through space. The physical world is an (almost) infinitely reducible process of matter in motion, both moving and colliding through and against other matter. (Descartes even says in his Principia that there can be no void, and thus describes a sort of ur-String Theory conception of the universe.) Res Cogitans is the being which is unextended and is the process of reasoning: it looks at the sun and sees a big star, but can calculate despite and through the constantly changing physical world the size and proximity of the sun. Since this can be clearly and destinctly known, it is something which is not subject to time -- it is an eternal truth, even if it is true for that simple moment of cognition -- and is linked to the eternal nature of res cogitans. The mind is also memory, because there is no real way to believe that the future necessarily depends on the now, and each past was once a now. The mind is that agent which gives form to the physical world and synthesizes it to allow the world to be comprehended.
Granted that Descartes is hampered by his foundation in Scholastic philosophy and that he is pretty wrong about a lot of philosophical stances (at least I believe him to be), I think that your understanding of Descartes is wildly inaccurate and shot with misunderstanding. Descartes conception of the physical world is pretty damn mechanical and deterministic. His mind is not really a psychological apparatus, but more a rationalistic process, a subjective calculus. Give me some more questions / points of anger, I'd be more than happy to discuss.
Don't have my book with me at work so specifics will have to wait.
But seriously where are you getting all that out of the meditations? Even with the criticism and reply sections my copy is all of 100 pages.
What he said he was writing about, and I am inclined to believe him in this, was a "proof" for the existence of god. His introductory letter is a giant blowjob to the church. Reads like just another useless upper-class git trying to get some patronage.
How was he trying to vindicate Galileo? He was a traitor to everything that Galileo stood for prior to be tortured into recanting. The only way I could see him having anything in common with Galileo is if the meditations (along with his letter of introduction and replies) were all some giant Swiftian satire.
Like I said above, I am not in the least interested in what philosophers have tried to turn Descartes into in the years since but in what he actually wrote and argued and (as much as can be inferred) believed.
pretty gnarly dude. It's also nice to see something that isn't string hypothesis. Sadly, I've never heard much beyond the geometric summary you posted. After the headlines said "Surfer Dude's Theory of Everything", Lisi's theory seems to have gotten very little press. That being said, I've never understood the ramifications (if there are any) of his work... got any more where that came from?
’Fraid not. I got the video via Kottke.
Cool. I've got his paper, but it was a little to mathmatikal to hold my interest. Action>Academia
Check out the video in my sig. At one point he is talking about experiment-driven unification theory (and what might be discovered by the LHC).
Interesting talk so far. I got engaged to my wife in Geneva last December. Still can't believe I didn't take a tour... the things we do (or don't) for love...
If there was a game where a black guy went into a Swiss suburb full of Caucasian men, women, and children and started blasted their heads off with a magnum because they were infected by an evil space species, would that be racist? And would it get anywhere near the aggression as Resi 5 is getting now?

use warm salt-water to flush your nasal passage twice daily. and there has to be SOME way you could stimulate your appetite....
I'm not snorting salt-water, that sounds worse than just dealing with it. And I had something but ran out of that.
It hurts and is terrible in every way but it really works. Google "neti pot". I know it sounds like crystal-gripping hippie bullshit "alternative" medicine. But I heard about it first from an actual doctor and it works extremely well.

Haven't seen it. But I find it hard to believe that a paper clip wouldn't serve. just be sure to heat it up first... not the paper clip.

Regarding Nile online, I am in my second day, with a level 3 palace and 25 cedar. I have an exchange under construction, is that where I get a ship? Also, anyone want some sculpture?

Read the article Tycho linked. It offers a pretty good analysis about the difference between saying, "You can't make a game where a white guy goes to Africa and kills African zombies," and saying "You can't make this game where a white guy goes to Africa and kills African zombies."

I'll figure something out, worse case scenario it's not like I'm going to die or anything I'll just have a miserable Wednesday.

Exchange makes ships yes. Though you don't need them for quite a while (probably the first time you need ships is founding your second city).
I think you'd realistically need at least a level 5 palace before going for your second city (will also need quite a large warehouse to hold all the bricks). Also a high level market so as to be able to buy all the sandals, jewelry and sculpture you need off other players.

Descartes is a brilliant writer. He both uses Scholastic terms like res and and substantia both to their fullest potential and turns them back against themselves. Each sentences is full of philosophical ramification. Descartes had an essay entitled Le Monde in which he describes a philosophical equivalent of a Galilean philosophy, but he never published it because he feared being persecuted in the same way Galileo was. The introductory letter to the most excellent philosophers and theologians of the Sorbonne was an attempt to get them on his side, because the only way he could get the Discourse and Meditations published was if they were ok with the material inside. He describes his conception of physical nature most in his Principia Philosophia, which was intended to be a text book for students of Cartesian philosophy.
A big theory in the history of philosophy is that Descartes was simply lying about God so as to publish his real theory about mind/body duality. (This philosophy was very much against the Church's Scholastic philosophy.) I think he was a pretty devout Catholic, from all records. However, the God of Descartes philosophy is not a personal god: it is an attempt to show that being can be fully actualized and infinite. It is necessary for Descartes to introduce God, because it allows him to found knowledge in the ontology.
I like you a lot Riemann, and would love to answer questions. But you take a pretty snotty and arrogant stance on stuff you don't know much about.

Oh, I see. I looked at the costs for a level 4 palace and thought, "hmmm, I can't make this shit. I guess I need a ship." Upgrading the market didn't occur to me. Will trading at least be more profitable with a ship, since I already bought the 25 cedar and am constructing an exchange?
In the game, the protagonist (the player can choose either a skinhead or a Klansman) runs through a ghetto killing black people and Latinos, before descending into a subway system to kill Jews. Finally he reaches the "Jewish Control Center", where Ariel Sharon, former Prime Minister of Israel, is directing plans for world domination. The player must kill Sharon to win the game.

Rule of Rose?
Wasn't banned. The publisher withdrew it. The BBFC passed it as an "18".
They even passed Manhunt 2 after some cuts. I think you now get some kind of weirdly distorted montage instead of the torture scenes.
It was banned here. According to Wiki, it was the only game ever banned here.
