Our new Indie Games subforum is now open for business in G&T. Go and check it out, you might land a code for a free game. If you're developing an indie game and want to post about it, follow these directions. If you don't, he'll break your legs! Hahaha! Seriously though.
Our rules have been updated and given their own forum. Go and look at them! They are nice, and there may be new ones that you didn't know about! Hooray for rules! Hooray for The System! Hooray for Conforming!

Shoulda put a ring of protection +1 on it. (Table top games)

So this right here is the new tabletop gaming thread. D&D, M&M, Snickers, WH40k, whatever your little heart desires.

D&D Stuff

D&D Official site. If you haven't tried out the character builder, you really should. It's in free trial right now, so you can use it up to level 3. Takes all the work out of character creation and is much easier than flipping pages and comparing books. As of right now, they do NOT have all the PHB2 content in there, because it's WOTC and they suck at computers.

Speaking of PHB2. Players Handbook 2 just came out. It features new classes (avenger, barbarian, bard, druid, invoker, shaman, sorcerer, and warden) new races (deva, gnome, goliath, half-orc, and shifter) and new feats, destinies and items. Pretty swanky stuff.

Other games stuff

I got nothin'. Feel free to put up some links to your favorites, I'll add them to the OP.

ITT : Nerds, dice, being jealous of Rank, Mori has a talking door in his pocket but he's still happy to see you.

World of RogueCraft turned to World of WarlockCraft, and now it's World of PaladinCraft.

That was always my biggest pet peeve with WoW. It was impossible to balance all 9 (now 10) classes, simply because it was so complex and there was so much to do. Depending on when you caught it, there were always a few way OP classes, a few middle of the road, and a few WTF classes that were basically gimped. Randomely, Blizzard would shake up which class was in which category based on some random number generator. Rince and repeat every few patches.

Then watch the nerd rage fly.

    Man nobody wants to play?

  • SquallSquall hap cloud Registered User regular

I'd play, but have they even announced when that will be a reality?

Also, I was looking through PHB II and the Versatile Master Feat seems real nice for Half-Elves

    Versatile Master
    Prerequisite: 11th level, half-elf
Benefit: You can use the power you chose
through your Dilettante racial trait as an at-will
    power.
If you choose the paragon multiclassing option
(see the Player’s Handbook, page 209), you can
choose powers at 11th level, 12th level, and 20th
level from any class, instead of only from your
second class. You can also spend an action point to
regain the use of an encounter attack power that you
have already used during this encounter, instead of
    taking an extra action.

Trouble is, I can't think of a class that Half-Elves would be excel in that could benefit from having an at-will like twin-strike

don't you just replace one of your at-wills with another if you take Paragon Multiclassing?

  • SquallSquall hap cloud Registered User regular
    edited March 2009
No, the novice, acolyte, and adept feats let you take an encounter, utility, and daily power from a different class, respectively.

The dilettante racial trait lets you take an encounter power from another class, and this new feat lets you have an at-will instead.

I haven't had a chance to play 4e yet, unfortunately.

My group never gets a chance to meet, and when we do we're switching between a Hunter campaign and an Aberrant d20 campaign. Also one of the dudes doesn't want to cough up monies for 4e since he sunk so much into all the 3.5 errata.

I kinda want to play a half-orc rogue. And the concept would be, rather than a stealthy lock-picker, he's a fucking heist man, or hired muscle. A shoulder-thumpin, leg-breakin, card-carryin' member of the "break your face for a couple gold pieces" club.

They're built pretty well for the class. I was just surprised that half-orcs got a dex bonus.

Yeah, there's two "builds" for the Rogue in 4e, the Brutal Rogue and the Artful Dodger. Picking certain powers and feats grant bonuses depending on which build you take. The Artful Dodger built grants you bonuses against Opportunity Attacks, while the Brutal Rogue lets you deal more damage with a rogue power (usually allowing you to add your STR modifier to a power it wouldn't otherwise)

You can pick any powers you want, it's just that some confer more benefits than others.

There's a power that lets you throw sand in your enemy's eyes!

So long as you're not the obnoxious dude who steals from the party every chance it's a lot of fun. One of the guys in my group would almost always volunteer to do the equipment shopping, because he'd use his mad charisma to get the stuff at a lower rate, and pocket the remaining gold. Called it a service fee.

Hey, metz, Martial Power (and the character builder) have a third Rogue tactic. Ruthless Ruffian, proficient with clubs and maces, you can use these weapons with Sneak Attack and any rogue powers that have the Light Blade keyword. If you use a club or mace with a power that has the Rattling keyword, add your strength modifier to the damage roll. Might fit that character concept.

Did they ever come up with a way to handle subdual damage in 4e?

Like, if I wanted to just knock a dude out, rather than kill him, how would it play out? Could I use the pommel of my sword to crack him across the temple or what?

Righteous brand or twin-strike on a fighter would be pretty rad as well, it'd just be hard to build a good half-elf fighter.

Hell, half-elf cleric with twin strike would be good too.

They probably did that to avoid the problems of the Forgotten Realms in 3e, where there's like 300 different regional languages and alphabets.
