Our new Indie Games subforum is now open for business in G&T. Go and check it out, you might land a code for a free game. If you're developing an indie game and want to post about it, follow these directions. If you don't, he'll break your legs! Hahaha! Seriously though.
Our rules have been updated and given their own forum. Go and look at them! They are nice, and there may be new ones that you didn't know about! Hooray for rules! Hooray for The System! Hooray for Conforming!
'Video mode not supported' on bootup screen? [Resolved]
Doing this from the comfort of safety mode w/networking.
I went away for a few days and came back, booted up my computer, and got the lovely little bouncing 'Video Mode Not Supported' right about where the login screen would be.
Windows Vista 64 Bit
Shitty Samsung LCD Monitor (SyncMaster 150MP. Yeah, it's old.)
GeForce 8500 GT
Had it in 1024x768, figured maybe when turning it off it screwed my resolution and booted it as something that the monitor couldn't handle, but setting it to 800x600 or 1024x768 from safe mode and then rebooting solves nothing.
Auto adjust on monitor doesn't do it either.
Removing and plugging back in monitor cables doesn't fix it.
System restored to before my last Windows update, figured maybe auto update after I left as it was booting down totally fucked me over.

What would I do from there? In safe mode at the moment 1024x768/800x600 work fine.
low resolution mode should reset all your settings.
you might also try switching to your onboard video is you have an external card, make sure you change it in bios though
I reset my settings (to both 1024 and 800) in safe mode and it doesn't take when I reboot normally. I suppose I can try low resolution mode but from what has worked and what hasn't I don't think it will. Hm...

I'm in SVGA right now, my computer does not go to VGA.
in vista it's called "low resolution mode" if I'm not mistaken
