my name is Graham but my middle name is Cole

when I was younger I briefly flirted with the idea of insisting that I go by Cole but now I'm so used to Graham it would be weird

    But probably Dorothy. Or Jack.

My gramma's name is Dorothy, so I think of it as an old people name. Like Agatha or something.

Like I just expect a Dorothy to pop out like Benjamin Button.
    Margaret. Dorothy. Elizabeth.

all of these names are old people names to me because of my grandmothers/great-grandmothers. Bill and Louis, my grandfathers, oddly enough do not share the "old"-ness that the female names get.

My name falls inbetween Matthew and Luke and superior to both.

    C or K? It's an important distinction.

My assumption would be K, considering the Biblical reference.

The Golden Girls' names also irrevocably made Dorothy an old person name for me.

    Blanche is a horse's name.

Margaret is the ultimate old woman name to me. But that's maybe because both of my grandmas, one of my great grandmas and I don't know how many old lady aunts have that name.

Dorothy is totally an old lady name, but I just like it.

I guess I just have a hard time understanding why people would go out of their way to give their kid an androgynous name

Then why didn't you pick a fight with the "Alex" people?

because Alexander and Alexandra are actually different names

And people who go by Alexx are tools and just trying to be edgy?

I mean, I'm just following your argument to its logical conclusion.

    uhhhhh

    not really

I never said anything about "tools" or "edginess," and that's entirely irrelevant to what I'm saying

I feel like you're just kinda being a dick because I expressed an opinion about someone else's choice of names

I don't believe I've made any dick like comments, Shank. However adding the double X does seem slightly...I don't know, off putting maybe?

Some names work both ways. Also, parents get dumb sometimes. That's really all I believe.

also I don't know why trying to make your name less androgynous makes you a "tool"

I know that if my name was Patrick I wouldn't go by Pat

if my name was Casey I would probably do something with that to make it more masculine

on the subject of old lady names I am flirting with the idea of doing a GIS with these names and seeing how long it takes to find porn.

It would all be black and white images.

    Old ladies were once young.

Which is weird, because that means there used to be a whole bunch of young girls named Agatha and such.

Adding another X doesn't make it less androgynous at all though.

It calls out for attention. Like guys named Tom who "no, it's Thom, with an H."

I dunno. If I knew someone named Max who made his name "Maxx" I'd be like yeah, that's bullshit, stop.

But I'm with her on this one. Alex is pretty masculine, and every Lexi or Lexa I've ever known has been a slut. Alexa's cute, but it doesn't fit. Alexx is unusual, but I like it.

yeah, parents are dumb. Picking a name is tricky business.

See...the eight thing helps, I'll certainly go with that.

However, no, I don't think that another X adds to the fem factor. It may be that I'm focusing on daily conversation there I don't think she's pronouncing the second X. It's just there and she knows it.

In writing? I mean, if you know she added it when she was eight, sure. But I still think I'd flinch a little at seeing something signed that way. Six to one, half dozen the other. If it works, cool. If she makes it big as a pop star though I'd like to reserve the right to mock.

I had a friend who was named Katherine. Her last name started with a C. What did she go by? Casey. Get it? K.C. except she actually used Casey. Names are funny things.

I have a very cool middle name, in my opinion.

The rest of my name is fairly standard fair, I suppose. My first name is the name that neither of my parents hated. One wanted Michael, the other Mark and the compromising "meh" that followed was my name.
