Every time I look at it, I want to skew that 1099 to line up with that sheet of paper more, but I'm too lazy to actually go do it.
A lot creepy but also great. And so is acadia's, I always fear arrest around tax time too. Though if taxes were sexy porn stars I would be more inclined to "do them" expediently.
I normally hate it when people use digital lettering within a drawing. Mainstream comics are horrible about it.
But I was feeling lazy and didn't think about labeling them until after I had scanned the line art.
looking at that image made me want to laugh but when i went to laugh, it started feeling like i was going to throw up because something about it made me feel uncomfortable

that's the effect i have on lots of ladies actually... they start to laugh and then throw up a little bit and then run away.

Conceptually it works well. using the green and yellow to symbolise Australia, and actually representing the the kangaroo through typography is clever too. Maybe just "Roo" will do...?
I'm probably going to digitally ink and color this and make it my Zune Background.

Thoughts? The idea is to have something that looks like a hybrid of manga/realistic features. I'm kinda leaning toward #2, but would like to hear opinions/questions/concerns etc.

I guess my main problem would be your "Somewhat realistic" to me reads as "Animu animu", and the "Touch of realism" reads to me "KAWAI DESSSSU NE?!!". I don't see any a 'touch' of anything but princess peach and sailor moon in the third.
I like Hiroaki Samura's Blade of the Immortal work personally. It's very grounded in realistic anatomy but it's still decidedly manga-ish. You have to treat the manga bits with subtlety. I would rethink your approach to drawing eyes and go with something that can be a little stylized but absolutely nothing like Sailor Moon glimmering gemstones.

I scrapped an earlier interior because it was poop. I'm kind of okay with this one, though.
Naturally, I fucked up the idea of scale, as I always end up doing. Fuck. Also, I have absolutely NO idea how to draw tiny little people "roughly". It makes no sense to my brain. I just wish I could draw empty environments.

I guess when I used the terms Realistic, Somewhat realistic, and A touch of Realism, I was judging them with my completely manga design as a ground zero for comparison. The first image I drew from a photo of a friend (with full permission, she took the picture herself for me to use), and then I went from there.
I do like Blade of the Immortal, but the fear I have of using that level of realism in my book is that it's a light hearted "cute" comedy (where BotI is anything but). I do want to have a recognizably manga quality to the work that leans more toward cute than the rough (but beautiful) tones of Samura's work.
By the same token, I'm aware that my completely manga style is generally off putting to most Americans. I do want to be able to market my book to some success and have my illustrations in the book. It's for this reason that I want to do something of a hybrid, where the face is more realistically proportioned (she has a nose, her face has more structure, her eyes are round, but definitely smaller than before).
Please note this isn't the last experiment I will be doing, I want to make sure I get the look just right for my book.

I think the lion's jaw area is a tad too large
