1. This not a joke. I have links straight from the official US government website for the trademarks.
2. Blizzard is working on five projects right now. WoW stuff, Starcraft 2, Diablo 3, the next gen MMO and a fifth unannounced title. So while it IS possible that they're making World of Rednecks, it's more likely that they acquired the license for the fifth project (Or more likely IMO, some of the original Redneck team request they acquire the trademarks as a personal favor.)
As far as I see, it's not really a joke. I'm sure it's not the MMO, but they did put down money for the license.

I think it's worth pointing out that ever since, say, Warcraft, Blizzard has done nothing BUT make the same old shit with new coats of paint. That's what they do. Some companies innovate, Blizzard refines. Warcraft II? Warcraft again, but AWESOME. Starcraft? Warcraft in space, but AWESOME. Diablo II? Diablo with a new coat of paint, but AWESOME. WoW? Every MMO combined into one easy to use package, but AWESOME.* And so on. People who want Blizzard to totally reverse course and stop ripping off Warhammer and Starship Troopers and instead make something totally new and exciting have to commit themselves to either acknowledging that at least so far, all the "same old shit with new coats of paint" stuff the've done so far is awesome or claim that Starcraft and Diablo II sucked.
