Cogs - earth-shatteringly simple or complex genius?

If you've not tried Cogs yet, you must. In fact, if you've not tried it, what on earth have you been doing for the last 2 days?

It is beautiful, simple, yet complex at the same time. You remember those little slidey flat puzzle games you played when you were little? Well its like that, only much, much better, and in 3D!

There's a free demo on Steam, its made by Lazy 8 studio, and Kyle Gabler says "the menu system is beautiful", he should know, he made World of Goo.

Just buy it, its fab!!!

I have nearly finished all the puzzles, and it is a wonderful game. It is also only £6.99/$9.99/€8.99 on Steam

That looks positively smashing in a nice steamy Victorian sort of way.

This makes me wish that the Incredible Machine-type games would get a nice revival Can you imagine all the fun shit you could do with one of those in, say, Source?

Oh god yes, I loved the incredible machine.

Cogs looks quite brilliant, I may just have to try the demo!

Crazy Machines 2 is pretty decent. Less charm than The Incredible Machine, but far more physics. Steam has it and its expansion at a combined $30, which is a bit much for an impulse purchase. If you're specifically looking for a more recent TIM clone I'd recommend it, though.

The really weird thing about the game is that it's so heavily based on physics calculations that you can sometimes alter the behavior of one part of a machine by moving another part in a completely unrelated section, which I would assume changes how your computer's processer handles the rounding errors that appear. I've had catapult launches and broken wall debris scattering affected by that, which is fairly obnoxious.

    What a beautiful game.

What's the name of the music in the trailer? I must download it to banish the earworm that has now burrowed into my skull, and "Doopy doopy doopy-doo" isn't working in Google.

Edit: never mind, found it on Songtapper.com :)

LewieP's Mummy, you're the greatest mom ever. :D

Also, this game looks cool, I used to daydream about stuff like this when I was a child. I should give it a shot, is there a demo?

It's very pretty, and kind of ingenious, but ultimately it IS just a complex slide puzzle.

So I guess that's great...if you're really into slide puzzles :rotate:

Ohhh these tile-sliding games have always been a thorn in the side of my love of puzzle games. Never really been good at them at all.
