The first thing I do when I reinstall D2 is rebind Q-R, A-D, and Z-V as skill banks. F1 becomes character sheet, F2 becomes my quest log, I forget what F3 became, and G is weapon swap.
I'd use my mouse to scroll through skills, but the ratchet on the scroll wheel's broken, so giving it a firm spin can cycle through my skills a dozen times over.

Well, hardcore seems pretty dead tonight. Anyone planning to play? I am doing chaos runs until I reach lvl 30. Also, any caster items for a wind druid would be welcome!

Edit: Yes, I am shameless.
You need a 4os crystal sword (or any 1h sword/axe with low reqs), and tal+thul+ort+amn. Usable at level 25, and one of the best caster weapons available.
edit: forgot to mention, Ladder-only. That's probably important.
If you don't need it for attacking, a 4 socket broad sword works better. If you want to use a Larzuk socketing, I have a broad sword in a stash that will get 4 sockets from him.

Why is that? Crystal swords have a slightly lower strength requirement, and neither needs any dex.
Well, it's mainly because a naturally 4os crystal sword is a pain in the ass to find, and any crystal swords you find in, say, Act V Normal that you take to get socketed will get 6 sockets (thus making you try to find an unsocketed crystal sword from some nebulous point between two Acts), whereas a broad sword in Act V Normal will get 4.
And yes, crystal swords do look cooler, which is why I traded up my Sorc's Spirit broadsword for a Spirit Dimensional Blade. A waste of an Amn, honestly, but I still liked the thing.

Ah, right. I got lucky and actually found a 4os crystal sword, so I kinda forgot that it's not easy to get.

I have found the thul and the tal, but the sword may turn out to be a problem. I found a Stag Helm with +2 to tornado that I want to put lore into, which means I will have to find the sword. Still, enough chaos runs and one might just drop.

I would be really grateful for the spirit items and/or anything else you think would be useful for a wind druid that I can use below level 50. I'm bjornagain hanging out in pahnr1!
Edit: Oh, and an ort and a sol, trying to make a lore hat!
So I just installed Diablo 2 and the Expansion on my laptop, and it is lagging really badly for some reason. I can run Warcraft 3 and Counter Strike just fine on here, but for some reason Diablo 2 runs really slow. I've turned all the settings down, any other suggestions on what I can do to make it run a little better?
Crap, just wasted my socket quest. I had found an antler helm that I wanted to make lore in, turns out those can have 3 sockets. That's what I get for not doing my research I suppose.

Use DirectDraw instead of Direct3D. To set this, run the video test executable in your Diablo Start Menu or Diablo 2 home directory. Direct3D means that your computer will try to emulate Voodoo cards on your current video card, and the results are never pretty. Running other games well has NOTHING to do with the performance of Diablo 2 on any desktop, since it is an older 2D game with 3D elements optimized for a dead video card. It runs like a dream on my old Windows 2000 system with a Voodoo II. *grin*
Running in windowed mode can help. Add a -w to your command line in your Diablo II shortcut.
Several things you can do with boosting Diablo II's performance:
Turn off Vista's Desktop Composition (i.e., Areo). This is especially if you find that Diablo II takes up to half an hour to start, and there's a white-on-black character at the top left corner during that time.
Run in windowed mode, as before.
Use DirectDraw instead of Direct3D, as Hahnsoo1 said.
Install a glide wrapper (one. two). This will allow you to make the full use of that revolutionary concept known as "3D hardware acceleration". This will require a card with openGL support (which virtually all cards have now, I daresay).
Turn off Perspective view (in-game menu > Video).
Requiring running in Administrator to get it to connect to Battle.net suggests a conflict with your firewall. Try tweaking those settings?
Huh, that's weird. I have noticed some slowdown in D2 from time to time, which obviously shouldn't happen, so I switched to DirectDraw. Now D2 won't run at all unless I make it run windowed, whereas it runs normally if I switch back to Direct3D. Guess I'll just have to live with a couple seconds of lag in Harrogath every now and then.

Thanks, Blizzard, for taking such a firm stand against filthy mulers and people trying to trade things.
