Alliance:The Silent War

This is one of the few games that I am really looking foreward to. I am a sucker for FPS that give realistic experiences (proper ballistics,ammo capacity,sighting,etc). The graphics are very impressive, the lighting is apparently something "New" and "Never before seen" I don't really care but they seem rather proud of it.

200+ small arms from (I think) 1916- present day, accurate in detail and function. The multiplayer mode boasts that you can take soldiers from WW1 with bolt action rifles and fight against modern day special forces with MP5's, or whatever combo your brain can cook up (I'm looking foreward to sniper competitions, check out the "egypt skirmish" movie to see why).

Basically I'm curious who amongst you have your eye on this up coming title, what do you think, hope, expect, yadda yadda. Also throw out the names of other upcoming FPS that don't restrict you to running around with a full armory strapped to your back whilst shooting aliens. I mean seriously, didn't anyone watch E.T?

    The game certainly looks good, but this is the first I ever heard of the game. Might have to keep my eye on it.

    I saw a video of this on gametrailers months ago.

    I am very interested in this game. I didn't know you could set up matches between soldiers - i thought you just got to choose your gun regardless of time period. Pretty damn interesting.

    From watching the vids it seems that in the "story mode" you play in several different time periods, in these time periods you are restricted to the weapons of that time/conflict (So no M-16's if your fighting in WW1 russia). Essentially you play a different man each battle, though your player is always a member of some secret society/group that steers the course of history via armed conflict (at least that's what I think the deal is).

    I see this game being big not so much for the story but for the multiplayer. The big deal in my eyes is that the annoying 12 year old punks can set up games with little to no realistic ballistics, leaving stuffy old guys like me to crank the true to reality knob all the way to full and enjoy me some intense "cat vs other cat" sniper action. This way everyone is happy and when everyone is happy, the money rolls in!

    I should be asleep but I keep thinking of how cool it will be to test my (woefully rusty) FPS skills armed only with a bolt action rifle against a worthy foe armed with a dragunov sniper rifle! Think of the bragging rights! Think of 'em! Are you thinking right now? Good! *wipes foam from lips and goes to bed*

    Seeing one of the gameplay videos it looked distinctly average. You shoot people. They die. There wasn't even proper physics. Could have been a shooter with pretty graphics from any time in the past few years.

    See what I did there?

    Did you watch the video where the game has a search engine for guns?
    And I honestly can't think of the last game that showed me the bullet velocity graph of my weapon, and made me adjust sights for faraway targets.

    Then again, we won't know until we have way more info / play it, so it could go either way at this point.

    yeah, this is the game being made by the MIT guys who wanted real world balistics.

    Edit: they are calling it "the gran tourismo of shooters." in regards to the weapons.

    But GTA2 was cool and fun and generally awesome. This is just a shooting game. Gosh, you can change sights. Hardly game-altering. And yes, having a huge database of guns attached is cool in a nerdy, don't-let-me-near-sharp-objects way, but hardly makes a huge change.

    Unless it improves a lot I can't see this doing very well. It's just not distinctive at all, and looks like a clone of any other shooter.

    It looks neat. I loved the "Gun Porn" portrayed in Black, and this looks like it will take it to the next level.

    as far as i was concerned, FEAR came out and did it way better than Black managed. Those firefights felt so kinetic, it was awesome. Still though, this is the first i've heard of this game, and i'll admit i'm a little interested.

    GT2 = Gran Tourismo
    GTA2 = Grand Theft Auto

    I was just mirroring the developer description.

    I completely forgot about this game, and apparently I was rather taken with it some years ago. Thanks for the update PTGamer.
