Our new Indie Games subforum is now open for business in G&T. Go and check it out, you might land a code for a free game. If you're developing an indie game and want to post about it, follow these directions. If you don't, he'll break your legs! Hahaha! Seriously though.
Our rules have been updated and given their own forum. Go and look at them! They are nice, and there may be new ones that you didn't know about! Hooray for rules! Hooray for The System! Hooray for Conforming!

  • Mechwarrior Online: THIS IS THE OLD THREAD. GO AWAY!

Well I managed to peak at #21 on the Lights board, but then life caught back up. Log back on 8 or so hours later and I'm 129th. Shenanigans.

    Yea, I know, Riemann.
Its just funny because in table top, a few of my notable victories were from blowing up bridges or setting fire to forests and cities.
    ...Should I add ECM?...

    Yes

What kind? How does ECM work?

only the commando 2D can rock ECM. you have chosen... poorly.

Well nothing that can be done about that now.

dont worry about it being a bad choice. just tighten your chinstrap and grind out the basic tweak enhancements to that mech. trust me, you'll be that much more of an annoying mech pilot if you know how to dodge LRM fire and lure fatboys into your team without ecm first. take the lumps and learn how to use the terrain to your advantage first, you'll learn the maps way faster this way because the mistakes are lethal. you will have a pretty good chance of having just enough c-bills to fully trick out your next commando by the time you get all the basic xp on the com-3a ground out.

join us, stick with your teammates, especially those sporting ecm so you can benefit from the shroud. :P

remember, the good light pilots had to deal with LRMs before ecm came out, so it is definitely possible. and since you'll be fighting lights with ecm, learning how to kill them or heavily damage them with lasers will make it that much more poignant when you get ecm... then again, the COM-2D only has one laser hardpoint, so take that as you will.

I started off with a HBK-4SP and it was great for getting the feel of how to run and gun. Ever since I got my RVN-3L though, I haven't really looked back. It is the undisputed king of Lights (with the COM-2D second). I like the profile better than the COM's (less chance of getting BOOM! headshots or arms blown off in a single Alpha). I wish I hadn't sold my RVN-4X as I think with the MG changes it actually can do quite a bit later in fights with 2 MG's pumping away and still moving at speed cap.

Just have to remember that as a non-ECM light, your role is more to keep the bigger guys clear of harassment and then swarm any injured enemies at the end to help finish them off. I never take the scout role in my COM-TDK or 3D as they're just too easy to pick off by an ECM light or a good TAG/LRM crew.

So I didn't know until last night that sitting at your base powered down like a trapdoor spider was a thing.

It was a very harsh education.
