So between getting my Stone of Lazhwar, finding a +156% physical damage 1H weapon, and readjusting some of my skills: my Lightning Strike Witch is back on track.
It turns out that +% Increased Melee Physical Damage doesn't stack very well with +% damage on weapons, so that freed up some points to start raising my shield block chance.
Current build (I chose +12% physical damage from Oak in Cruel):

You're in an excellent position to pick up several good life, resistance, and shield nodes. Stars being Celestial Walker, Elemental adaptation and the shield block and spell block node
Yeah, I'm really looking forward to my next 10-15 points. Connecting the Templar nodes to the Witch nodes took quite a while, but now I'm ready to grab some of the really good stuff I routed past.
You could also dive straight into the Marauder start and be the tankiest
