Our new Indie Games subforum is now open for business in G&T. Go and check it out, you might land a code for a free game. If you're developing an indie game and want to post about it, follow these directions. If you don't, he'll break your legs! Hahaha! Seriously though.
Our rules have been updated and given their own forum. Go and look at them! They are nice, and there may be new ones that you didn't know about! Hooray for rules! Hooray for The System! Hooray for Conforming!

Better question is: how excited would you be if it was a Wings/Pens Final again?

  • [Industry Thread] Oh, we're doomed. Every year we're doomed.

John Riccitiello, yes the John Riccitiello, has a piece up on Kotaku.

The best part? He's making sense. I bolded some things cause it's quite long. Spoilered for length, he was nice enough to do a TLDR, I put it outside the spoiler.
    Spoiler:
I am a huge believer that this is the year we put focus back on console gaming in a way it has not been for some years. To put Sony’s and Microsoft’s next consoles in the same frame as Samsung’s and Apple’s hottest products. To do this, I believe they need to do a few things right:

1.They need to make it about games and gamers.
2.They need to invest to make enough consoles and prove they can compete with the supply chain prowess of companies like Apple and Samsung.
3.They need to price sharply to ensure consumers buy what they make.
4.And they need to think open platform more than walled garden.

If they avoid the pitfalls that would keep them from getting all of that right, I am quite sure console gaming will (once again) be the next big thing.

So, if you are still debating whether mobile gaming will kill the next generation of consoles before they ship, my answer is no.

My opinon of melisandre swerved right back to "she-devil" this episode

I was all oh hah, just leeches

then "no nonononono not there NOT THERE"

    that was cruel, melisandre

    she-devil it is

I dunno, I'd, uh, let her leech me any day? :winky:

It's all fun sexy-times until the wickedly curvy ceremonial dagger comes out.
Then it's mindless incoherent screaming as the femme fatale casually empties your arterial blood into a golden chalice.

Whoa, let's not discount those fun sexy-times here.

All I'm saying is, I'd take that red bullet for King Stannis the Mannis. For the good of the realm and such.

    And...and then it's fun sexy-times again? :winky:

    EDIT: GETH

    Geth knows what's up.

Edit - See, he's got my back.

Boy golly do invasions in Dark Souls not add anything of value to the experience of the game what so ever on PC. I get invaded every 20 minutes by some douche-nozzle whos 40 levels higher than me and had way better equip who just strolls in and kills me for no reason. It just wastes my time and is more frustrating than fun or challenging. It wouldn't be so bad if I actually stood a chance at fending off said invasions, but the level and equipment gap bake that impossible. Summoning someone into my game appears to be impossible as well, it fails every time lol. The boss on the bridge also kills me every time, he just traps me in a corner where i cant move or dodge and smashes me over and over till I die. Grinding for an hour hasnt helped. I don't know if this is the game for me, i'm finding it more frustrating than fun.

The controls often also get in the way and just dont feel responsive.

    @Elimination

Play with a controller, it's awful on KBAM, dev even admitted it. As far as fighting goes, parrying attacks is always the best option, but for big attacks you often can't. So then you want to dodge/roll, and to do that, your equip weight should be <50% of your max (ie - if you can hold 50, be wearing <25lbs), otherwise you suck at rolling. Blocking is a last resort if you can't roll in time, because even with a good shield, you have to have the stamina to eat the hit. So parry > dodge > block > eating the damage.

I highly recommend staying in hollow form since it's your first play through. More often than not as human you'll just get invaded and killed, but summoning up some bros for jolly cooperation usually fails. When you're hollow you can't be invaded. Upgrading weapons is way better than straight leveling up. If you're in the Firelink Shrine (starting zone), head down to the very bottom of it and take that elevator. Nothing there will attack you, but off to the side of that area is the first blacksmith, who can upgrade stuff for you. Check out this page, specifically the map, to help find the blacksmith.

When you do level up, it's worth noting that the resistance stat is utterly useless. There is no reason to get it above 15 if you decide to raise it at all. Endurance is probably your best bet, it gives stamina, more equipment weight and adds a bit to your resistances. All stats have soft caps at 40. If you're not using magic, you can safely ignore intelligence and faith too. I would recommend getting a bow (vendor in Undead Burg sells one) if you have the dexterity for it. Even a basic ranged attack can really help for pulling things in or just slowing chipping down slow moving enemies.

Don't be afraid to explore areas that you know are too tough for you as a lower level. When you die, you only lose souls and humanity, so you'll want to wait til you have none. But you keep items, so you can get into some higher level areas and get a few awesome upgrades as a lower level, especially if you choose the master key as your starting gift or are a thief.
