Our new Indie Games subforum is now open for business in G&T. Go and check it out, you might land a code for a free game. If you're developing an indie game and want to post about it, follow these directions. If you don't, he'll break your legs! Hahaha! Seriously though.
Our rules have been updated and given their own forum. Go and look at them! They are nice, and there may be new ones that you didn't know about! Hooray for rules! Hooray for The System! Hooray for Conforming!

  • [Washington] Politics

The real tragedy is the state of our infrastructure in this state/country.

I mean, I'd like to say we shouldn't use an almost tragedy to browbeat Eyman for being the shit heel who has contributed to and fostered the culture of defunding vital government services in this state...

But actually no we should do that because fuck Eyman.

  • Job/Employment/Making Money thread.

Every time I heard a college kid bitching about the two pages of chemistry homework they had to do while I was working 40 a week and going to law school made me want to slap them

    This. Absolutely this.

I thought I was the only one stupid enough to work full time in law school.

Every time I heard a Humanities student bitch about writing anything when I was busy with tech stuff, it made me want to drop pipe bricks on their heads.

College students are, for the most part, spoiled little shits who don't understand what "hard work" is in the Real World sense.

Doing the dishes in the midst of a hangover you got from last night's caraaaazaaaaaaay dorm party doesn't count, either.

I'd imagine all of your peers are in the same boat. Wanting to date just because you're lonely is kind of a poor reason to look for a potential life partner, though. Is there anything fun you do in your life that would benefit by having someone else involved? Maybe that's the angle you should take.

The downside to living with your parents is that it makes sexytimes very awkward, and saying "come to my place" means "and meet my parents," which some people don't react to well.

Hold on, I'm legitimately confused about this. Isn't being lonely the only reason to want to date? I mean if your shit is all straight and everything in your life is great then why do you need to add another person to it? I thought being lonely was like, the sole reason people look for partners.

A better way to put it might be, if you're lonely, don't expect dating to be the cure. It can make you feel good about yourself--and life in general--but there's no guarantee that Finding Someone is going to fix that feeling of loneliness that can sometimes feel like it encompasses your entire existence. That feeling is, in my experience, usually a sign of a deeper dissatisfaction with one's life that extends beyond simply "I have no one to curl up next to at night".

So, yeah, anyways, date if you're lonely. Go ahead with that, it's fine. Eggy's choice of words were poor. Just don't look at dating as a panacea for all your problems. It's not.
