Follow on education, like working on a masters program or on another degree - what online schools would you guys recommend?

Veritas is going to tell you to ignore online schools. (looks like he already has!) It really depends on what you're trying to do. If you're going to stick around for 20 and never use your masters, it's a good option to "check the box" so to speak. I wouldn't recommend that line of thinking, but that's an option. There are also plenty of great distance learning/online schools around for a variety of subjects.

I did mine through the University of Oklahoma. They come out to a variety of sites in Europe (Italy included). There should be an OU rep at your education center. Here's the link to their site. http://www.ou.edu/outreachceap/ap_home.html

It appears they offer both the MA - with focus in International Relations as well as the Masters in Human Relations. Both good courses, depending on your future plans.

I don't see anything wrong with OU since it's a good school that has an online program. I'm just frustrated with others going to places to just check a box at for-profit institutions. You might not get to do 20 even if you want to. There's many reasons that this can happen. A bad program is worse than no program, because once you do separate and want to go to a good school, a bad program will, at best, do nothing for you, and at worst, work against you. Remember, O-3 is automatic so starting work on a masters isn't that important as a signal anymore.

Also, I think one should go for a masters for skills than one can use on a regular basis (MBA, Human Relations, etc) but I have no problem setting up something that benefits you primarily outside, especially if you want to separate soon.

The main reason for the check-box is cost and time. I see no reason why, for a life investment, one should not budget accordingly like any other person. Also, if you have access to the GI Bill to cover some costs, use it. I'm doing a part-time masters over three years and will have 16 of my 36 months remaining after I'm done. I can almost get another masters with that! It's built for a four-year undergrad.
