Same here with the lifetime and the no invite. I really don't envy Cryptic's position right now, what with having thousands of customers guaranteed beta spots and not enough capacity, but they did kind of bring it on themselves.

It's also possible, though less likely, that everything went as planned and they simply weren't expecting the level of outrage that the situation has generated. Sorta reminds me of the whole "why is there so much outrage!? enhancement diversification is totally not a nerf!" thing that Emmert had going back when they sprung ED on everyone in CoH.
That video linked on the previous page is pretty awesome, and the boarding team thing is definitely cool. But I really wish there was a way that if the player wanted to, he could take control of the boarding team and actually be the one that goes in and sabotages the enemy vessel.
