"Red, blue, or green spots (bright spots) or black spots (dark spots) may appear in certain locations on the LCD screen. The appearance of such spots is a normal occurrence associated with LCD screens and not a sign of malfunction. LCD screens are made using highly precise technology. However, a very small number of dark pixels or continuously lit pixels exist on each screen."

Short answer: no, I sold that piece of crap a long time ago and thanks to the above statement I'll never buy Sony again.

I can see that this is extremely important to you.

As said, my PSP 3000 has one dead pixel that, meh, doesn't really bother me much. My current DS Lite has none, and that's great, but my previous two had one stuck pixel each, and that was a bit more annoying, but only in very particular circumstances. It's certainly not a deal-breaker for me. I mean, because if it was, I wouldn't have any portable systems, Nintendo or Sony.

PSP? OOOHHH you mean that thing I haven't touched since Final Fantasy Tactics was re-released on it. Will it ever see another good game?

Judging by your avatar you might be interested in the awesome Megaman X remake for it. (and powered up too)

Let me tell you about Demon's Souls....
quote:
I’ll tell you what happens in Demon’s Souls when you die. You come back as a ghost with your health capped at half. And when you keep on dying, the alignment of the world turns black and the enemies get harder. That’s right, when you fail in this game, it gets harder. Why? Because fuck you is why.

I love my PPS. Or rather, loved. I actually broke it by twisting it furiously. Don't ask. Right now its only really good for watching movies and listening to music.

No, I understand that one. Missing a putt by 0.2 feet in Hot Shots Golf 2 actually makes me want to either break it over my knee or twist it until it breaks.

I think it has plenty of good games. Daxter, Ratchet and Clank: Size Matters, echochrome, Force Unleashed (it wasn't fantastic, but it was enjoyable), Crisis Core... the list goes on. Maybe if you're not into (S)RPG or 3D action platformers there isn't a lot, but... to each his own, I guess.

So guise. I have the original psp, and apparantly you can't get newer batteries for it. How much of an improvement is the battery life in newer models?

I've been thinking about starting to use my PSP to watch movies via memory card.

Codejunkies has an 8-hour battery, plus when that one runs out you can pull out your original battery as a backup.

If you buy from them, keep in mind that they're not the best at shipping things quickly. My order took four days to go from "Billing information received" to "Left the warehouse."

Damn, I just received my ordered PSP today, turns out it's one of the 2000 line. Now I have to send it all back and look for another good deal (and the only bundle with a confirmed PSP-3000 in it has FIFA 09, at least where I've checked). Argh!

edit: As a sidenote, does anyone know if there's a bundle with a PSP-3000 Piano Black? I just came across a deal with GoW and a PSP Base Black, but Piano Black looks so smooth!

Apparently there's some issues with the newest model. PSP Fanboy says the plastic feels cheap and there's some serious ghosting issues going on. :/

I also own both, and the first time I had seriously used my PSP in about 5 months was last ween when the 5.00 update hit and I wanted to try the wifi store.

I personally think that the PSP is the portable equivalent to the Wii. It's really good games are really good, but there are fewer of them. It has produced some of my favorite portable games(the two syphon filter games are 2 of my favorite portable games ever), but aside from 1 or 2 games every 5-6 months I never really use the thing.

My DS on the other hand, is used almost every day. It has a library that will rival the PS2, and is one of the best gaming machines of our time. I have more games for the DS than I do for the 360 and Wii combined, and I still go back and play some older games on the DS even today.

tl;dr: I have both, enjoy the PSP when I use it, but the DS is what gets the majority of the playtime because of the library.

As an aside, since I've seen virtually no one talking about it—the upcoming Resistance Retribution PSP title is made by the Syphon Filter team and looks to be really similar. I have no interest in the PS3 Resistance titles but the PSP third-person action game looks really good, kind of like how Killzone didn't do anything for me but the isometric PSP shooter is pretty enjoyable.

Bah. Can't install update since my battery is too low... Even though I have it plugged in.
I agree that's kind of lame but I can also understand it—if your battery were almost dead or not even present and you were installing a new firmware ... all it would take is one accidental unplugging of the AC adapter to brick your PSP instantly.

It's hard to find news about PSP games, you have to brows the web to find the really interesting releases. For example, today I found out about a King of Fighters release and the up-coming Cannon Fodder for the
psp.

Oh Cannon Fodder... you're going to drive me mad.

How could the ghosting issues be WORSE when the refresh rates are now DOUBLE what they used to be?

From what I have read at various sites people are saying the screens are just plain defective. Whether they do have double the refresh rate or not. How valid these arguments are however is another question.

The big complaint right now seems to be that there are HUGE interlacing problems with the screen. Joystiq has some pictures, it looks pretty bad.

hmmmm, I didn't know that the Resistance game for PSP was made by the Syphon Filter team. that'll have to go on the list of games that I don't have the moneys to buy this year.

I accidently stepped on my copy of Crisis Core a few weeks back. Now I have an urge to play it again.

To the local game depository!

I'm glad I bought one of the fattys, even instead of the Slim. Even if it has its own quirks (analog stick moves by itself, USB port doesn't work, d-buttons are hard to press) at least it's playable, and all custom firmware works on it.
