Still a day behind, and falling farther, but progress is still being made, so it's not yet a lost cause. Just shy of 1100 tonight; starting to feel the two-day gap breathing down my neck, so tomorrow's gonna have to be a winner.
Quoth would appreciate it if everyone would go back and just spend a few hours editing what they have to make sure it's good. If you end up with less words at the end, so much the better.

I like Science, robotics, the Green Bay Packers and classy man stuff.
Because I'm not classy see, but I like to pretend that I am. I'm essentially a cheesehead Tony Stark cosplayer. I will also accept bourbon, scotch and cigars.
Well, shit. I'm cruising along, about to have the heroes enter the bad guy's lair for the first time, and nearing 9,500 words, when I realize I need to figure out what the bad guy's plan actually, you know, is. And I'm kind of flaking.

Heh, I just introduced the guy who is basically explaining the main thrust of the story. And then I realized I only have an extraordinarily basic idea of what that is. And there's two ways I could go with that, and I haven't decided what I want to do with that yet.

Mercifully, I'm still a bit away from the main infodumps. By then, I need to figure out the motivation for a mysterious sinister organization, the big bad running the actual evil plan of the story, the nature of the entire universe down to why most of it is unknown since a war ten years ago, and a LOT about the afterlife and how it affects the bad guy's plans.
Sorry Guys. I just got a new 3rd job... I have to bail out It sucks. and I feel worse about this that I think I should, but when real life calls, and I"m working 16 hour days, I don't have time.
Having trouble figuring out what happens next in my story, this is terrible! I need to get far enough ahead, too, since I don't think I'm going to be doing any writing on Saturday.
Also: Halkun, nooo. That sucks, I'm sorry you have to drop! Life and jobs are, sadly, more important. You'll just have to finish your NaNo story another time.
So over the weekend, I was booking along, and way ahead of the game.
Then work happened. I recently got promoted and am still getting a handle on my new position, plus this is a busy time of year.
Plus Dragon Age came out!
Next year put NaNo in a month that is not the biggest release month in all of gaming, kthxbai.
So anyway, I'm juuust barely keeping up with where I need to be, which is an illusion because I'm only averaging 1k words on a day to day basis.
Hopefully I can take advantage of the weekend to get ahead again so I have a buffer for next week. Rather than spending the entire weekend leveling my Berserker and trying to get Morrigan into my bedroll.
Dragon Age will still be there in December, you can do it! There's only one month where you can claim you won NaNoWriMo! Plus, if you win you can get your book printed by CreateSpace for free in December!
You guys can do it, I'll be over here rooting for you!
I just read this from the bookish LJ community, maybe it will inspire some people: Spoiler:
"This semester, I think I've spent more time in the Ceramics Studio than I most majors do. A friend is taking a class, and I've been keeping her company because it's a studio class and she has to spend at least 20 hours outside class a week.
It's really funny, observing the creative process. In all different forms of art - writing, graphic design, ceramics, you name it - it all boils down to the same process every time.
In ceramics, the first step is to make the clay. I'm pretty sure here at GSU, they load the dry clay into old bread mixers and add water. From what I've seen, it's a lot of hard work - and generally a chore that no-one in the class wants to take on, which amuses me to no end, because the creation of raw material is just something every artist needs and none of us seem to want to do.
Writing students and beginning writers are the only creatures in the world I've encountered who expect to give birth to a fully-formed piece of art on the first try. We tend to be perfectionists, using excuses like "writers' block" to leave off putting down the words that make up our raw material, instead choosing things like cleaning the house to the last detail, play FarmVille on facebook, or worse, spend all our hours talking about writing instead of actually committing the act.
A great man once told me that writers write. There is no mystical bin of inspirational clay we can to go for raw material. It won't just appear in a fit of divine inspiration and no-one will make it for you.. You have to go out there and put the words on the paper, even if the words are "I'mstuckI'mstuckI'mstuck" for fifteen lines.
So as soon as you get done reading this article, go and write. Make your clay. There will be time for shaping it into something beautiful later."
Man, 10,000 is a lot. I wanted my story to be half about my main character's childhood, then half when he's an adult. I'm already running out of childhood stuff.

Sounds like we have a similar setup! I'm still in the childhood section as well. Kids do the darndest thing, though, you should be able to come up with some crazy adventures that you can fit in there that may help develop the character some!
My main character just met up with some newfound friends, I suspect they'll be getting into quite a bit of trouble as this half of the story progresses.
OMG I can't believe I finally caught up with this thread! Sitting at just over 3k and very happy with myself for making that much progress. I'll just keep working on this stuff and get caught up soon enough. Wonder if I could make it to 10,000 today... Probably not, but by the end of tomorrow, I bet I can. We'll see...
Also, VThorn, wondering, if it's not too late, could you see about putting some kinda alpha-numeric ranking system on the Nano tracker page? I'm getting tired of counting out 46 places
I am going to catch up this week I swear to god. And I'm going to do it at starbucks,on a macbook, while I wear a peacoat. This book is going to get so wrote
