(moving to this thread) Mother fuckers and their fucking flash-only websites. Fuck you. Their claim of "bigger battles" is pretty interesting. It's hard for me to not get images of Civilization + Total War.. I think I'd die from excitement. I'd also like to see a slower paced game.. not the sort of game where 100 years pass in a turn in the early game, and 1 year passes in the late game. I know you could mod Civ4 to always be 1 year per turn, but the game wasn't really balanced for it and it played out weird.

For instance, Brian Reynolds has been credited as the primary designer behind Civilization 2, Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri, and Sid Meier's Colonization,[3][4] while Jeff Briggs designed Civilization III and Soren Johnson led Sid Meier's Civilization IV. Currently Meier's role appears to be that of a creative director, simultaneously contributing to multiple projects. I wanna say he was more directly involved in revolutions but I can't remember. also what the hell is this (also from wikipedia) Meier worked with a team on a dinosaur themed game starting early 2000, but announced in an online development diary on January 24, 2001 that the game had been shelved. Despite trying various approaches, including turn-based and real-time gameplay, he said he found no way to make the concept fun enough. In August 2005, Meier said "We've been nonstop busy making other games over the past several years, so the dinosaur game remains on the shelf. Great, my Civ IV buddy and I may end up going on unemployment when this comes out. There's no way our brains can remember to keep ourselves fed, breathing, hydrated, play Civ V, and maintain any sort of meaningful productivity at work.

I think I just had multiple nerdgasms. Just updated my outlook calender to "busy" for the entire 3rd quarter of 2010. You had me at hexgrid, indeed! The terrain and units look impressive, and I'm intrigued about the changes to the combat mechanics, which have always been the weakest part of the series, IMO.

I eagerly await this.

After Civ Revolution, I was a little worried we wouldn't see another proper Civ game. Glad to see I was wrong.

I made it to the Video Games Live! concert at Wolftrap outside of DC this summer, and Sid Meier was one of the speakers / guest hosts (right before the orchestra played the CivIV opening theme). He's just as cool in front of a crowd as you'd hope. I regret to say that I somewhat chickened out of meeting him in person after the concert, largely due to the fact that I didn't bring CIV for him to sign. EDIT: That, and I couldn't figure out how to go up to him and say, "Thank you - I've spent more time with your creations than I have with my wife." Awkward fanboy moments just aren't good for anyone.
