(UPDATE: VENUE/TIMING) New York Meetup 7/1

Robert KhooRobert Khoo Registered User, ClubPA staff
edited July 2010 in Social Entropy++
Okay there is no voting on time for this, because I only have one free night, which is July 1st.

My question now is where we should meetup. Suggestions? Last time we had meat pies in brooklyn and then ran over to barcade, but i feel like there might be something thematically appropriate to meeting at SPIN. But I am also not from NY so suggestions are welcome!

6/22 Update!

Venue: Der Schwarze
Address: 710 Fulton Street, Brooklyn, NY
Date/Time: 7/1 at 8 pm
Notes: There will be people here!

look i am joining the facebook revomalution

Some guy.

SPIN would be tons of fun, too bad I suck at ping pong :(

But I should be able to make this as long as I don't have to be anywhere early the day after

I swear to God I will punch you if you do not.

ko takes reservations online and only holds them for like 24 hours, so you always have a chance to eat there.

At least, that's how it's described in David Chang's cookbook. I dunno if it still works like that. I imagine the internet would know!

Of course if you eat at ko you are going to wind up dropping like 100 bucks per person, and I'm pretty sure they don't serve ramen there.

Christ, this fucking cookbook is so Goddamn incredible. Shaved foie gras lychee & pine nut brittle? Fuck you, make me some right now.

I need like 2 weeks and like a million dollars to just go food-spelunking in New York.

I've tried it in other cities and it's a blast, I can't imagine what doing it in New York would be like.

i think ko might serve ramen from time to time, but it's just a chef's choice tasting menu kinda place so you'll never know

i love ssam bar so much. one day i'll convince myself to blow the $100+ on a seat at ko.

e: oh and momofuku noodle bar is definitely better than rai rai ken. SO MUCH PIG

That's precisely why I imagine they don't serve ramen; with a whole shop DEDICATED to ramen, why would they bother putting it on the menu at ko?

As for the quality, noodle bar is probably the best ramen any where on the planet, but what it ain't is "traditional".

So I can see if somebody wanted some real, "traditional" ramen they might not want to go to noodle bar.

I hate that you've been to ssam bar. I know about these places only because a guy married to someone I went to school with told me I should check out this cookbook by a guy named David Chang.

i wouldn't expect ko to have like the same ramen as noodle bar, but i wouldn't be surprised if they had some sort of crazy ramen-inspired dish from time to time

also i love milk bar. red velvet soft serve? why not!

    I will fight you.

I will fight you and eat you.

    Not to possess your power

but to possess the power of the things you have eaten.

Fuck why can't you open some restaurants out west, David Chang?

Show these lazy shit heels out where what ramen is all about.

Also I seriously need to try the soy milk ramen thing at miyuki. I keep putting it off because their miso ramen is so fucking great.

Why can't you slow poach your eggs, miyuki? It is not hard.

Here, David Chang's cookbook tells you exactly how to do it, I will show you.

The next fucker that serves me a hard-boiled egg with my ramen gets a dick in the ear.
