You are at a restaurant, a waiter turns to you and asks "And for yourself?"
My mom said today this was grammatically incorrect. Now, I know its starting a sentance with 'and', but thats not what she meant. She said the "for youself" part is incorrect. I have never heard this, is it true?

Since no one seems to have responded, I'll clarify.
It is grammatically incorrect because a reflexive pronoun can only be yoused when the thing the pronoun refers to has been earlier in the sentence. "And for yourself" is really just "And [what can I get] for yourself." Since "you" has not been used before "yourself," "yourself" cannot be used.

Thank you. |
