Official NoE site for Mario Strikers Charged Football
8 minute playtest of online functionality
What made the original Strikers so awesome

This is (or I guess it could be) the official thread for Mario Strikers Charged Football (simply "Mario Strikers Charged" outside of Europe) for the Wii, the sequel to the brutal and fantastic Super Mario Strikers. The soccer/football/fútbol title takes the Mario universe and adds some Mountain Dew XTREEEM into the mix -- with red shells and bob-ombs as well as over-the-top super shots and arenas rimmed with electric fences, the game is to traditional soccer games like FIFA and WE what Mario Kart is to traditional racing sims.

First off, if you haven't: Watch the video with a 8-minute-long walkthrough of the game's online functionality. Yes, lol friend codes, but move past that and you have a lot of robust online options, with stat-tracking across various seasons, Mii integration, a lobby system that lets you invite other players into your created game, random ranked matches and unranked friend play, the option for a second player to play co-op with you on your Wii while online (against someone else with their buddy or not), and so on. This is a far, far cry from the shit-tastic Mario Kart DS and Star Fox Command online play.

Then read these UK IGN hands-on impressions and more glowing previews from another UK site. Sadly, us Yanks won't be getting the game until July 30, but you fine Europeans should be able to give us all more personal impressions of how the game plays and use this thread to swap Friend Codes and stomp each other. The game's out this week, so let the hype commence!

I'm pretty excited about this game. I loved the first one, it was definitely mindless soccer fun.

Still TBA in US though... Hope it makes it here.

Ah! I hadn't actually watched the whole vid last time -- that answers a lot of my personal questions. :) The whole game's looking really solid.

Yeah, I now may have to buy this game.

    And I hate football.

But a game in which Peach turns into an angel before pwning someone is a game I need to have.

Otherwise, looks great and I'm probably going to pick this up, as I've already seen this around for only 40€ (full-prize Wii game =60€) in some online stores.

You'd have to be daft not to give Europe priority in this instance.

I must say, watching the intro movie on the site made me excited for a game. That hasn't happened since I saw the SSB Brawl vid almost a year ago.

Also note under 'The Ball' section they throw-back to the old nintendo days.

    "Now THAT'S playing with power"

    Excellent

hahaha, holy shit. I just watched the video that plays when the site loads. I cant really believe Nintendo allowed them to make there characters look so bad ass. I mean come on, there like inches away from just putting a gun in Mario's hand.

But im not bitching, because it does look bad ass. If it does have online play, then this will be the game that will make me buy a Wii.

While I certainly don't object to the badass style, it doesn't seem to totally fit Mario. As long as the style doesn't leak out of Mario Strikers though, I won't mind.

the only thing i dont like about this game, is the shitty-looking goalkeeper minigame, the one where you get a chance to stop the super shots.

I played the first game, but I didn't really care for it. It was all right, but it never grabbed me like the golf or tennis games did (and baseball just plain sucked ass). So I might just give this a rent first to see how it is.

Still though, gotta love that art. Sega should take notes, this is the proper way to "x-treme" your characters up. I can't wait until they show the Yoshi art. The small face picture they show on the site scares the shit out of me.

The last Mario Strikers felt like a modern version of Nintendo World Cup. Which is a very good thing.

I want this really bad. I wonder when its going to come out in the US. I'd import if there was some way to get past the region blocks but I dont think there is yet.

MP3 in August doesnt surprise me. But Strikers in July? Seriously?

I can't think of one game that Nintendo has released in July over the past few years.
