Just watched the first episode of Turn A Gundam and was surprised at how much better it seems than all the other Gundam shows I've watched (Original, part of Zeta, Victory, Seed, Wing) except 08th MS Team, and there was zero action in it.

And I actually enjoy the designs/art.
Hopefully it keeps my interest and favor.
I tried watching Turn A, and with the exception of Macross don't like Mecha shows. That said, I found the first few episodes to be quite enjoyable and entertaining; the characters, setting, and motivation were great. Then they started to introduce the mechs and I quickly lost interest. Turn A started with a great premise but I felt as if they didn't treat both sides equally. Loren should have been more ambivalent and conflicted about his divided loyalties. The show's one great spectacular failure was in not exploiting the conflict between his love and adoration for the queen and his love of his new home. They may have gotten to it later in the show but after 20 episodes of tedious illogical behavior and horrible mecha action, I gave up. I'm quite bitter at Turn A because it could have been great and could have had me rooting for both sides ala Legend of Galactic Heroes, but it didn't deliver despite having so much promise.
So it was my manga run today and a couple of good series came in for me. Of course, I always pick up any new series 1st volume to see how it is.
Queens: Vol 3 and 4. This Korean Manwha is about a feminine boy that likes and girl and goes to the Manwha-ka creator and wants to toughen up and be more boy like. The Manwha-ka is a girl who writes romance stories and lives with two other girls. Its apparent this is some sort of Harem Manwha, because they all fall for his cuteness and dress him up as a girl, fight for him and care for him. While it is different than Yubisaki Milk Tea, its a good sort of difference that makes it a good read.
Missile Happy Vol 1. This is a new series for me. I has chosen this series through the guide. Its about a girl who has a sister complex and does like anyone near her sister. When the sister decides to get engaged the girl goes and lives with him to see if he's good enough. I haven't read it yet, but the premise sounds good.
Eureka Seven: Gravity Boys and Lifting Girls: Vole 1. This manga is basically following the game of the same name. I haven't played the game yet, but the Eureka Seven universe has enough story I believe to make another sideline story. I don't know what the story is or is the art looks good or not, but by judging from the Eureka Seven manga, it should be excellent.
Hanami: International Love Story: Vol 2. This is also another Manwha, this time more romantic than Queens. Its about a Japanese-Korean girl who goes back to Korea with her grandfather. The grandfather married a Korean woman so when she dies he goes back to live in Korea where she lived. A Korean guy likes are so its like a romantic comedy about him trying to win her over and open himself to her. Its quite good, and I love the story.
Translucent : Vol 2. A Story about a world wide disease which people become invisible but still function properly. Its about a girl who has this disease and about the boy who likes her even with it. It also shows the affects of transparency and how people learn to cope with it. Its quite good, so I recommend it.
Rurouni Kenshin: Vol 5 . Everybody knows what Rurouni Kenshin is so there is no point in detailing the story. However I like the Samurai style and I liked his Buso Renkin story and art so this one is alright with me.
Berserk: vol 12 & 13. This story is a gripping and dark and totally sits apart from what I usually read. I quite like the art, the death scenes and the sword fights plus, I am always enamoured with one man agianst the world sort of setting. Thats the reason why I picked these volumes up.
So that's my manga run.
Edit: I also forgot to mention I picked up UDON's Camcom Artbook. Its pretty cool and I love the Sakura pictures with Rival Schools and Street Fighter series.

While at the same time losing points from the "hardcore" for being so un-gundam-y in both story and (new) mecha designs.
I need to get around to actually finding a set one day.
I consider myself a 'hardcore' Gundam fan yet I'm loving the shit out of 00. Stupid purists.
He was talking about Turn A Gundam.
Same here. I'm a huge Gundam fan and I thought Turn A was pretty much artistically the high point of the series. Also, 00 is the breath of fresh air needed after the SEED catastrophe.

00 is wierd, because by all accounts it should be terrible.
I mean, it's a redux of the Wing plot, right down to the "pacifism by force" theme. The character designs are some of the most effeminate I've ever seen. And some of the character names are ridiculous.
And then it turns out pretty good, at least 5 episodes in.
A lot of gundam cliches are turned on their heads, half the cast pretty much calls out Celestial Being's mission as utter bullshit. There's a lot of political commentary tied to what's happening today, the suit designs are freaking amazing.
Hell, the main characters are rather surprisingly interesting.
Spoiler:
Setsuna's got his PTSD child soldier thing going on, to the point where he has flashbacks in public. Lockon is a badass. Allelujah is implied to be one of the children from the HRL super-soldier program, and Tieria seems to know much more about what's going on then he is letting on.
And, of course, Graham, Sergei, and Louise and her pringles.
Apparently, according to the japanese website, all the Meisters use codenames. This makes a lot of sense for Setsuna (weird name for a kurd) and Lockon, but since (ep 5)Spoiler:
Allelujah is called that in his flashback
I'm not really sure how much sense it really makes.
And one thing that I though set it appart from previous shows, especially Wing to which it's most similar, is the fact that the show manages to be a clever satire on recent gundam shows. Of course, it might turn out to be a red herring, but with the comments made by characters in the show on how stupid the plans of Celestial Being seem to be, as well as at least a basic understanding on how war works (the Talivia thing, CB knowing that if they disappear war will break out again everwhere they have/will intervene), it seems like an obvious set-up to make CB the "bad guys", and their plan is obviously doomed to fail either way. The only thing that bothers me so far is how the AEU seems to be set up as some sort of comedy faction, what with the events of episode 1 and Patrick's arrogant character. Oh, and princess bitch is horrible, both her character and her character design. Something about her face is really wrong.
Lastly, I fail to see why so many seem to hate on Tieria, with the exception of his fabulous hair and slightly more effeminate character design he is by far the most interesting character so far IMO (Though he doesn't get close to Lockon/Graham in pure awesome). Pretty much the exact opposite of Patrick in both looks and character actually. Predicting upcomming feud.
I thought Allelujah was a bit boring, talking to himself and shit, but actually he turns out to be the most interesting character so far to me. I love how not only his eye color changes but his hair style as well. As for the others, Setsuna is your average traumatized kid trying to prove himself, Lockon is pretty badass but hasn't showed much yet beyond his sniping skills and Tiera is the by-the-book guy who by coincidence also has the least appealing mobile suit. I like heavily equipped suits like the Heavy Arms Custom, but Virtue doesn't do anything other than shooting a pretty laser beam from the look of things.
Anyway, we all know Sergei is the star of the show. His personality and experience is great in every way.
For me it's between Bebop and FLCL. I can never decide. FLCL has always had that thing goin' on. So many moments of that show fuckin' gave me goosebumps because they were so good. You ever get that? I was like (after a few minutes of closing jaw)"Dude... this is one of those moments.. this is it. This will live on as a very fond memory for a loooong time. I'll remember this." Like when the Hybrid Rainbows chorus kicks in as Canti is flyin' with the birds. Or in Bebop, most of episode 5 "Ballad of Fallen Angels." Or all of Gurren Lagann's episode 8. That shit leaves you speechless..
Years later, I'm still retarded for FLCL. My favorite moment is probably from episode 2, when we see Blue Canti transform into Red Canti for the first time, and Little Busters starts playing. Oh Man, frigging Sweetdiculous.

It's fine to have a favorite anime that is different from the "best" anime. Evangelion is my favorite, but I hold no delusion that anything but Bebop is best.
It's fine to say that FLCL is good, or your favorite, but Bebop has to be the best.
Even when compared to the various films of Miyazaki? I mean, I certainly see how Bebop is technically impressive, but there are things that surpass it in that regard.

Fuck Miyazaki.
He drove whimsy and childhood innocence into the ground and the ripped character development and plot out of its quivvering asshole and replaced it with trite bullshit.
