hell, if one of these were local to me, I would uninstall windows from my PC and give up PC gaming at home (assuming that pricing is final)

There's a nice article about Omega Sektor here

I hope they manage to pull this off, they've clearly put a lot of effort into making it work.

The name hurts me so so much.

I'd much rather it be in London or Manchester than there. I just can't see how it'd be advantageous to locate such a place there.

well it is pretty central. London or Manchester might be more popular, but for a 'day out' kind of thing, there's a lot of places that are within about an hour or two of Birmingham. Me, for instance, i'm too far to make a short go of it, but if i were to get up early on a saturday or something, i could make a day of it, and come home nice and late. If it were in Manchester.. not so.

This sounds amazing, if they do open one in London I might check it out, but that's still too far for me to go on a regular basis. A good location for UK PAX though.

Thta name really bothers me.

It's a realy cool idea, but making it sound like sometihng from a 90s X-Men book scares people away. Christ, I wouldn't go, just for fear of the sort of people that would go.
If you're anything like me, then "Omega"+anything reminds you of Omega Red

... but I thought that was kinda cool.

Sucks to be you. I went to school there and live just far enough away that I can look down on you.

Massive Necropost but better than a new thread, right?

I finally managed to get photos. In the last few months I became somewhat of a regular, and the security and staff have come to trust me and I don't get watched as closely. I had to take these photos on the snide still (which explains the lack of flash, camera phone and bad quality) but some employees turned a blind eye so I could get them.

Lots has changed here in the last few months. First the prices went up. Then over Christmas for no reason at all they dropped the "buy hours on the PC" pricing. I think this was because there was no way to monitor how long somebody was playing the consoles scattered around - somebody could easily sit on guitar hero or assassins creed or any of the Xbox/Wii/PS3 titles for hours and their time wouldn't be ticking down.

It's much simpler now:

£5 all day
£3 after 8pm for the rest of the night.

Pay this and you have access to everything inside. The "pro gamer" room with beter rigs, upstairs, downstairs, the Xbox Room, the bar - everything.

Regular tournaments are now in place. There's a 5v5 CoD4 tournament going on tonight, for example - last night I was at a Dawn of War tourney, and one of my mates is set to challenge their guitar hero champion next week. Thursday nights are retro nights. They've got all the consoles, including arcade sticks and all the rest and a selection of games - if there's one you want to play, though, just bring it in. Feels a bit safer, too as they now have quite a bit of security. Yesterday a fight broke out over CoD4. Both were drunk and it was hilarious (I've never seen two nerdier people fight, honestly) but the security were there to handle it.

As before, there's downstairs which has a load of PCs (No photos of downstairs), a Wii, a PS2 and a private function room. Upstairs has the Main room, the Final Fantasy room, the Xbox room, the STALKER room, the bar, and another private function room. The bar is now open too, since they finally got their license.

Without further ado, pictures: Bear in mind these pictures are of one floor only, and in the case of the main room I only took pictures of the right hand side. The left you can't see. Basically what I'm saying is - these pictures don't do the size/scope justice.

Still, apologies in advance for the lateness and the bad quality - I had to stealth around to take these, and without using flash it's bloody dark in there.

Pictures:
Spoiler:

A really good idea would be to rent out one of the function rooms for a UK PAX, though, as they're quite big. The one upstairs (which we're renting as a birthday surprise for a mate) has a huge plasma TV, 12 PCs and a fridge they promise us will be filled with alcohol.

LewieP, how does it feel to know that you changed APZonerunners life by making this thread? You told him about it, he checked it out and now it's a regular part of his life.

You should feel proud!

This does look like an interesting place, but another person from Manchester here, so it's not exactly easy to get to over in Birmingham. Maybe if it does well, they'll open up more.

Maybe I'll have my wedding reception there... would be better than a boring one in some run-of-the-mill function room! Hehe. Of course, I need to get married first... a plan must be put into action immediately!

And yes, more pictures and info please!

Well if anyone has any specific questions about the place I go there pretty regularly - usually every wednesday after uni for a few hours, have a few beers and a few games and then head home - I can answer them, most likely. What games are there, other prices, all that kind of stuff.

Did you want to marry a man? Lol. Then again, the reception WOULD be in a gaming complex... maybe that alone would be worth it. Not sure my partner would be too happy about me marrying someone else tho...
