Izumo was the second-to-last campaign I did(the final being Bozack's, which is the funniest by far). I enjoyed it a lot, but I'm pretty sure I stayed away from Goldark until I had Bozack, Tristan, and maybe Topaz under control.
Though going after him early on when he just has a few generals and Gaul and Scythe is tempting.
I was referring more to how every nation but Topaz and Tristran will attempt to cross your territory trying to go north/west into Fandaria. It made expansion tough at times to say the least.
Topaz has similar issues being in the freaking center of the map, but gets a lot more generals from the side story. I stupidly left Shion to babysit Izumo's capitol my first game since I didn't have anyone outside my initial roster when she's much better out wrecking stuff up.

This was going to be sparse, but I discovered some secrets that I'd forgotten about.
On that note, if there's any other side stories that you DF vets know of that I've missed along the way, feel free to chime in.
Part 23: No Time For Love
Spoiler:
Year 1 / Month 11 / Week 1
Fortunately, I did remember who earned accolades this time around.
Ayrios, Dayn, Kodiak, Leon, Reinhart, & Rudger. I had an extra award or two thanks to Junon's efforts, so a few people got bonuses.
Also, some goodies from searching.
A lot of failures, but in addition to the relic found above, some of the brighter commanders found a Faith Coin and a Death Claw.
And Nikeral Castle gained three levels thanks to some elven architectural design.
No sense in wasting time letting an item like that gather dust.
Junon does most of the fighting, so only fair that she gets the extra firepower.
Yanna gets the claw because she's one of the few who can use it, and she's cool like that.
As for captives, quite a few saw the light:
Crawford, Hagane, Kumonn, Nelson, Sayaka, and Wriph all joined.
On that note, we've got a forest to conquer.
Only one Bozack landmark left to go, may as well make it our own.
That's a fitting execution squad for Gongos.
And away we go.
In the meanwhile, we can restock our new arrivals.
Not that I expect they'll be seeing some action anytime soon, but better ready than not.
Besides, it builds morale.
Time for round two.
She beat him once, she'll do so again.
Bozack's fully resupplied, and coming in force.
We'll do the same, but with a bit more caution.
Also, thinning the herd in advance.
That evens things out a little.
Gongos likes to counter on a more personal level.
It'll take more than that. Invest in some better armor, beastie.
Time for payback.
And support fire.
Gongos goes for another shot, not that it'll help any.
He's way out of his league.
He fights to the last.
Screwed from the first Sonic Blast if you ask me, but at least he's optimistic.
And the last beast is ours.
Always good to have.
Maybe he'll be more gracious behind bars.
We're fresh out of ointment, sorry.
Oh, that.
They are the ones who came to my aid the time I was attacked by Scythe.
They're nice, decent people, despite their looks. I am sure they would accept you if you talked to them.
Well, Scar trying to help the beast men? How odd.
What say you, Majesty?
Alright, Scar. If you support these people with your word, I'll certainly talk to them.
I appreciate you listening to me, Majesty.
Yes, Majesty. I just hope he doesn't bite...
(Not anyone important, at least.)
I am the gallant man of the forest, king of the Bozack! Yet, I was captured by the enemy! I am such a failure!
You gave us a hard time of it, though, Lord Gongos.
Drammak! I am so... disappointed! For this to happen to the hero of the forest... huh.
Don't get so depressed about it. The game we play is all a matter of timing and luck. But I saw you out there. Your strength is real! I will welcome you as a guest, not an enemy. Please... relax.
Okay... you are more broad-minded than I expected.
I would like even more to welcome you as a friend who battles with me for the cause of justice.
Well, you mean you need the gallant man's power to help you break Goldark's war spirit, yes? I see, it is only natural. Only natural, yes yes.
No, not for him. We battle against a much larger force.
The crest of the Star Dragon? What is that?
The Crest is proof you are one of the Chosen. One of eight warriors that shall fight against Madruk.
The dark god himself? Ahh... now I see. It is why the forest is so unsettled recently...
As I thought, I must be a great man as I am selected to be one of the Dragon Force. Yes. Now I am one of you, forget your troubles.
He deserves the honor of being chosen.
Yeah! Gongos is the pride of the beastmen.
How wonderful! The gallant lord of the forest is famous.
Oh, this is wonderful! Go Gongos!
All right, I play the drums for you! All right, go go!!
Everybody prepare for big festival! Dance and eat!
This is good! Yes! This is perfect! Grah hah hah!
Wait, wrong festival.
Well, that's enough from the peanut gallery, time to-
She was so looking forward to an execution, but noo.
I was wondering if all the forest people are like him.
Wow wow wow! Is that an elf girl there?
........?
Lord Gongos, it is my understanding that for a long time, the elves and the beastmen have been enemies. This goes back to the time when the beast king Leviathan and the Spirit Queen Farla fought with each other. But as the queen of Palemoon, Teiris is a valued friend. We shouldn't like to find quarreling between two such...
Hmp... Teiris is a good name. A pretty name for elf girl. My goodness, I think the hero of the forest is in love.
...Oh... dear.
Oh no, spring is in the air for ol' Gongos!
Lord Gongos! You can't just fall in love like that!
Gongos... you are soo adorable!
Wooo! It's a true love confession!
(Surely we can at least have some executions...)
Well.... I'm flattered, of course... but I mean....
Well, I won't demand your answer immediately.
You will want to give me your answer after you see me true strength on the battlefield, yes?
Don't worry, Teiris. I will beat up Madruk for you.
You will? Why, thank you. That's fine...
.....
Majesty... what's the matter?
What? Oh... I just feel a headache coming on.
Junon, I know exactly how you feel.
Same here.
So, back to a less stressful sort of domestic issue, a few more awards to give out.
Wein didn't really earn any(and likely never will), but we need those worthless Soldiers of his gone ASAP.
Gulen and Reiner fended off a Paine/Agonni offensive(Reiner winning in a duel by a real close margin), so they also got some awards.
Among the findings were a Cleric Crest, Spirit Crest, Honor Coin, and Strategy Runes, while Sardia Castle gained a much needed three levels from some fortification.
Lastly, Gekai and Nelson joined, finally.
(Still no luck with Ardor, Uryll, Veltarna, or Santana.)
Moving on, it's time for the last kingdom on the agenda:
The Izumo Nation.
The new recruits are lacking in troops, but they won't be needed just yet.
They'll be holding down the fort with Gongos here.
While the Tristan elite handle the real business.
Or so I thought... turns out there was a guest waiting in that town to the south.
I told him not to, but Presto just insisted on tagging the trees along the way.
I don't know who you think you are, but the forest here is my territory.
No one enters or exits without my approval.
Perhaps I should teach you a lesson in manners!
I see you are thieves, looking for Hayate. Sorry to disappoint you, but Hayate's not showing up.
But I'll fight in his absence. The name's Shirox, Hayate's star pupil.
What? You look like my sister...
Give that to me!
Touch-y.
Still, who am I to object?
Decapitate at your leisure.
Shirox is using Protect, which is annoying, but nothing that can't be broken.
Air rush.
So much for them.
Shirox has some tricks up his sleeve, but not the kind that do any damage to commanders.
He probably just made her very, very angry. Well, angrier.
Too bad the Harpies beat her to the punch.
And just when we're about to get our belated execution...
Master Hayate!
I understand a rumor has recently been circulating. People have hopes of defeating me in order to gain fame. My pupil was only being protective of my welfare.
I must apologize for him. I'm very sorry. Please forgive us.
If words are not enough to pacify your anger, I'll give you this book of tactics.
Please accept this gift. If you are going into battle, this book will be useful. It is of no use to me any longer.
Come, Shirox. Let's go. We have no further business here.
Yes, master.
Well, so much for that.
Back to business.
Not sure why a samurai nation is bothering with a priest, but that's his funeral.
Sparing most of the details, 70 Dragons against 10 Mages.
This was a slaughter.
And that's progress.
I decided to shift Katt and Yuni to Bozack Castle, so Rudger can come up north for the conquering.
Now we have the original gangsters on the march.
Why slow our roll?
Look at that, Mikhal is sending a welcoming committee.
Not much of one, but those are two of his commanders.
They can be the warm up.
Presto's out of practice.
And still needs more, apparently.
She's keeping her troops close, so, it's sneak attack time.
Samurai have a solid defense, but nothing Cavalry can't handle.
They're not as weak to them as Soldiers are, though it can still work.
Head-on, it would probably be suicide for the riders.
Some familiar trickery.
Nothing they can't handle, so they go to finish the job.
That's what she gets for playing hard to get.
And off she goes. Unfortunately, since this is a field encounter, we probably won't get to pursue her.
So we'll have to make sure we get her leader.
Maybe he would have been more successful with her, but not likely.
Another Protector.
So we'll go in headlong.
Samurai and Soldiers are fairly balanced, but Samurai have the advantage in this situation.
Usually.
They manage to get through, but there's still plenty Samurai on the outskirts.
So Rudger sends everyone in.
I underestimated Jackal's skills.
Nothing Rudger can't return in kind.
Unfortunately, since they're in Charge mode, the remaining troops can't get past the outer guard in time to take out Jackal, because Charge AI focuses on the soldiers first.
And a draw is not an option. Jackal's not getting away.
So Ayrios will have to finish it.
And so he does.
Half isn't bad, considering we weren't even counting on running into them.
Also, bonus XP.
But back to what we came for.
Better luck this time, Presto. (In more ways than one.)
Hmm, doesn't seem interested...
No wonder.
Mistal is another one of Mikhal's commanders. Feminine traits aside, he's quite deadly.
And he's taking the defensive, so Presto will do the same.
Not quite the sneaky approach, but it should do.
This had the potential to end badly. Support time!
Electric.
More than enough for them to break through.
Mistal fights back, but there's not much sting to his counter.
Except he's more than capable of finishing off Presto's squad.
So, personal finish.
Your funeral.
Pistols at dawn!
Better your turf getting bloodied up than ours.
That's two down.
And just in time.
He indicated he was the student of Master Hayate. A strange place to find ninjas in training.
Hayate... Hayate... Yes! I remember him. Izumo is famous for its skill in the martial arts.
Among the most expert of their ranks, Hayate stands alone. He was adored as the most talented fighter in the land.
But one day, he just... disappeared. Poof! Gone. It seems we have stumbled upon the Master's secret!
Who would have thought such an awesome talent would take up the life of a recluse in the woods?
I would like to meet him and see what kind of a man he is.
Perhaps soon, we will.
The time of the Samurai is at its sunset.
Next time: All Into The Dark

This is mostly dialogue heavy, just because there's not much killing left to do.
After this update, the endgame will be in effect.
So let's get Legendra's conquering over and done with.
Part 24: The Last Samurai
Spoiler:
Presto, Ayrios and Vangal were the only ones on the honor roll, and some of them were maxed out already, so I handed a couple over to Teiris to finish off her dragon armada.
Let's hope so.
A few routine searches turned up the following: Two Spirit Crests, a Dragon Crest, a Soldier Crest, and a Dark Claw. I probably have enough Spirit Crests by now to give everyone zombies if I wanted.
But, back to business.
Two castles left, and Izumo's finished. They're reduced to less than a skeleton crew.
Just Mikhal, Shione, and Zagat holding down the fort to the north.
That should be plenty.
Let's pay the Emperor a visit.
Her reputation precedes her.
We live in hostile times. The walls of nearby kingdoms are closing in, and villainy seems to have taken hold of everyone.
I do not want to expand my kingdom. I seek only the way to live in peace.
But for the land of Izumo, peace seems only a dream. We cannot achieve it while others provoke us to action.
This is the most convenient route to Fandaria, and it's through him. Nothing (too) personal.
First the assassin has to go.
Only natural to send the ladykiller.
He gets no love.
Shione only has a handful of troops, so I'm confident Rudger's abilities will be enough to take her out.
And they were: except she high-tailed it.
Which just leaves the boss man.
Like all high-end rulers, he's got a full battalion, but nothing J can't handle.
Better mow a few of them down first.
That should do.
Unfortunately, that's also a trick Mikhal's familiar with, Izumo style aside.
Wasn't really expecting it, but the damage was already done.
There's still more than enough birdies left to finish the job.
That helps too.
Mikhal saved his more direct assault for last.
Not that it'll make a difference.
And that makes a matched set.
Again, no difference.
I decided to give Ayrios a chance, and to my surprise, turns out Rudger and Presto aren't the only players in Legendra.
Maybe she's into blondes?
Could it be a victory?
Guess not. Ice cold to the last.
This doesn't take long.
It'll fetch a mint on the black market.
As for Mikhal, Junon goes to finish it.
Just to be sure.
Unfortunately, he won't be.
And get decapitated?
Or not.
Another kingdom that has to be conquered to the last man.
Which means he went back to his last outpost with Zagat.
It's a small hindrance.
Rather than give Mikhal time to recoup both his HP and forces, I send everyone right away.
Except Zagat came to greet us.
Izumo sure is desolate.
Pretty solid defense, but it'll be broken easily enough.
Even if it's no Sonic Blast, still effective.
He isn't as lucky as his brethren, so he doesn't manage a getaway.
So it's just down to Mikhal now.
May as well give the boy wonder a shot. (Besides, he'll need the XP)
Reinhart learned from the best.
And, he's extra well done.
Doesn't take long for Mikhal to want to speak his peace.
I don't trust him. What do you want to do?
He's all right. We've been watching that one.
I'll trust you on that. Bring him in, then.
Yes, Majesty!
Excuse me if I speak too plainly...
Oh? That depends. What do you have to say?
Let me warn you of one thing.
If your sword hand aches with bloodthirsty revenge,
you will destroy yourself sooner than you think.
How so?
Your heart, which is desperate for revenge, beats with the same purpose as mine.
Don't leave every decision to that vengeful heart of yours.
This is preposterous! To ask for an audience, then lecture the King!
I am sorry. I am truly tormented at having lost, despite the fact that I am a highly skilled swordsman.
Please excuse my rudeness. I am prepared to die for my error.
Just know that I only came to ask you to slay Goldark, then move on to the real target: Madruk.
The dark god Madruk? What do you know about it?
Well, I.... that is....
Alas! The Crest of the legendary Star Dragon!
The Crest of the Star Dragon?
The Crest is the sign that you are one of the Chosen. One of the eight who will fight against Madruk!
What? I am chosen to fight against... Madruk!?
You have obviously heard his foul name.
The people of Izumo shall never forget it. We of Izumo are not from this land, originally.
The island, which was once our home, was sunk by Madruk.
In just one terrible night, our homeland was destroyed!
If we had not found Legendra, our people would have died.
To us, Madruk is the essence of evil. He must die.
Is that so? Well then. It seems...
That we are united in purpose against a common enemy!
Yes, the words you speak are from the well of truth. We must work together.
Some time later...
That ghost knight, that Faust, has appeared at our meeting, and is battling our military command right now!
The hell you say! Out of my way!
Ahhh, Junon.
Get out while you can! Run!
Leon!
Junon, it's too dangerous! Please!
Faust! I will NOT let you go!
Juuunon... as I thought... you are the only one...
Get ready for me, Casper!
There. Did you see my sword technique? Being a ghost hasss itsss advantages...
Lotsss of practisss time...
You... Do not toy with me. Just finish it!
Do not misunderstand... I have no intention of killing you... As I knew...
Only you can use this power of darknessss...
What?
Here. Take thisss... you may even rule the world with it...
That is the dark sword Eclisis!
This? This is the magic sword of the god of destruction? It eminates such a wave of evil! Be careful!
Zanon could not take itsss power... Even Goldark could not control it...
Juuuunon... only you... The magnificent hatred in your heart can control thisss..
All right. Then my first act with this thing will be to kill you!!
Junon!
!! Let go!
Leon... why did you stop me!?
Cut it out, Junon. It's not like you. You fight on your own terms, with your own
power. You don't need an evil sword. You're bad enough without it! And I don't want to see
your face full of hatred. Hmph. Those frown lines ruin such a pretty face.
Leon! Don't you...
What shall it be..? ....Juunon!
I quit. I do not need your fiendish powers!
The light! It'ssss too much! Ssss...
Then take a hint, Faust! Get out of here!
You... ssss... you... Isss thisss the power of the Star Dragon?
It issss Fressst!!
It has been a long time, Faust.
When the power of the sword god Miral wasn't enough, and you decided to take the
god of destruction's secret, that was the beginning of the end for the Holy Warriors.
Do not say that, Frest. I wasss trying to put the end to Madruk... the power...
The god of destruction's power... I used it... it wass... I used it... Miral's sword and this.
I... no... that is right... the loved ones were... the loved ones... ohh.. I remember.
I remember... loved ones... the power...swallowed all of them... I remember.
The light of the Crest must have brought his senses back. Go away from us, Faust.
And remember the mission of the Holy Warriors....
!
Faust is a miserable soul. But I nearly succumed to the sweetness of that trap. If
Leon hadn't stopped me...
He almost got himself killed by doing so.
Is that so? It looks like I owe him much... Lord Frest? You arrived at a good moment, it seems.
I thought only Ramda could lead you back from... wherever.
How did you manage to get back to us?
Well, I had lost Ramda's thoughts altogether, but I think enough power
was discharged from Eclisis that it warped the spatial dimension that held me.
All of a sudden, I found I was able to escape.
Well! Huh. Then what has happened to Lord Ramda?
I feel that he was killed by Gaul and Scythe... because their power grew too great for him.
If only I could have come back sooner...
So now Junon is without mask. Well, she's still a Black Knight of Death, and that's good enough for me.
Mikhal and his commanders joined, but thanks to Faust'sssss shenanigans,
Leon's hospitalized for a good week or so. (Not that I was using him anyway)
There isn't much left now except to finish off Fandaria's remnants, so that's what we'll do.
They have two castles, each with one general, so this won't take long at all.
Unless of course, there's an interruption.
Earthquake! It's a big one!
Whoa!
Is everybody alright?
I think... we're all fine. Aren't we?
That was a pretty big one, eh?
No. Listen. I don't think that was an earthquake at all.
What are you getting at?
Before the ground shook, I felt a great wave of evil. It swept through here from that direction...
West. The effect of that wave is what we felt shake the ground.
From the west... Ruinledge! Where Madruk was entombed!
Oh dear, you don't think Madruk is waking up, do you?
We no longer have the luxury of time. Madruk's revival has arrived sooner than I expected.
Curse our luck! The Eight Warriors of the Dragon Force aren't ready yet!
Drat!
No, no. It's not as easy as that, my children.
Why is that? I thought...
To the god of ruin, normal weapons mean nothing.
You need the weapon that is designed to destroy Madruk.
Are you telling us that there is such a weapon?
Fortunately, there is. If there wasn't, you'd be kissing all of this goodbye!
But what is this terrible weapon of destruction?
'It' is the Dragon Power.
The Dragon Power? I thought that was the eight of us.
Yes... you will wield it. But you are incomplete.
The spirit of Harsgalt is the source of the ultimate power.
The remainder of his soul resides in three holy weapons.
This is the legacy Harsgalt left to us. The Dragon Power.
Where are these instruments of the Dragon Power?
There are three Shrines to Astea in Legendra.
The Forest Shrine in the south houses the Sun Bracelet.
At the Cape Shrine in the East is the Cane of the Moon.
And lastly, the Snow Shrine in the North holds the Star Sword.
When the god's weapons are together, in your hands, the seal will be broken,
and the ultimate power of the Star Dragon will come rushing back.
Together, you will literally become one with the Dragon Power.
Then we should start out for the Shrines as soon as we can!
Yes, but again, it is not as easy as it sounds.
At each Shrine, only the chosen ones can get in.
In order to enter the Shrine in the south, you must send one who has love of water, one who
has soul of fire, and one who has calm of forest.
Those who can enter the eastern shrine are: one who has power of wind, one with strength of land, and one who has ferocity of thunder.
And for the northern Shrine: one who has softness of heaven and one who has strength of light. Those two only can open the door there.
Now, those in league with Madruk know about this. I am sure they will have some trouble brewing for us.
It doesn't really matter what is lying in wait for us.
We must face any and all obstacles. To the Shrines!
The last Dragon Force Warrior is heading there now.
Who is it?
You'll find out when you get there... now go!
Who could it be, indeed.
The time for preparing is running out. The Dark God's on his way, and Tristan won't be caught lying down.
Next Time: Endgame - The Demon Apostles

Ah, Mikhail. Not only does he get a prettier version of Sonic Boom and Blast, he gets the latter at a level when other generals are fiddling around with the middle version.
He is also responsible for a fair share of my game overs. He seems to have an inordinate amount of 5 hit strikes in duels. I've learned not to duel him with my lord even if he's at a sliver of health. Leon, Gongos, and Junon all have similar experiences in my hands:
*Mikhail wins initiative with a lifebar in the red*
"Father, this is for you."
"Wait, what?"
*slash, hack, slice, cut, murder*
"Game Over"

Since I'm so close to the end, I aspire to actually finish this game by the end of the week.
I've just cleared two of the shrines. I could add the third onto this update, or do that and the final battles all in one go, which I think is possible.
I'd probably include the ending in that as well. Either way, not much left to go.
I wonder if I should still bother getting Hayate...
I have another LP which I plan to start not long after that I've put off for far too long(like I knew this would take me a year ).
The kind denizens of this thread will be allowed the first options to select from, patient as you all have been.

I want to play this game on a real Saturn so much, but Saturns and copies of the game are a little hard to find. The LP is a good one though, and I think you should post what you have now, and do the shrine and final fights in the update after
There aren't much domestic affairs left to handle.
I did some searching for the heck of it, but right now, the only characters worth giving awards to are the Dragon Force. The rest won't really be needing them at this point.
Reinhart's Mages won't be much use where we're going, so he needs an upgrade.
Another one to the pile.
And then it's off to handle some unfinished business.
A classier option.
Oh really.
Fandaria's last stand isn't exactly daunting.
That might have worked if she'd waited a little longer.
It isn't her only trick, but still.
Too late to do much good.
Leaving us down to one.
The last Fandarian isn't much of a threat either.
It was either him or Vlad, and Harpies are just as bad against Mages as Zombies are, so I went with the better odds.
Generic sprites get no love.
So much for that.
Let her run. Where's she going to go?
Not far.
They don't get the chance.
And all the opposition is finished.
Well, the mortal kind at least.
Time to start shrine raiding. Wein is one of the two, so off he goes to the north to meet his mystery companion.
He has a long walk ahead of him.
Meanwhile, all the rest are on their way to the required shrines.
(If you haven't figured out Frest's riddle, don't worry, I vaguely remember who goes where.)
There's just enough time to do some last minute preparations.
Finalizing Wein's dragon posse. (Soldiers will not do either.)
And Reiny's good to go, too.
The first trinity is ready. (Talk about odd trios.)
To the south they go.
And the next, making tracks to Palemoon.
Another long walk.
Wein's still got a ways to go.
But they're ready.
It's a stone monument. Hmmm... there's writing. The dialect is very old.
Let me see if I can interpret it... Ah... yes! It says...
'One day the eight chosen shall come forth. Of the eight, only three may pass these walls. One with a command of water. One with the ferocity of fire.
And one guards the forests of Legendra. All others shall be barred from entering for eternity.'
This must be the monument of which Frest spoke...
Be careful... we don't know what's in there... Wait! Gongos, Reinhart.
There's something ahead...
Today I shall kill you and destroy your plan utterly. The best part is... none of you can stop me!
I will not allow it! Teiris is to be MY bride! I shall protect her with my life... yes.
Then perhaps I shall kill you first, and I can give your head to Teiris as a wedding gift.
We have a mission, and we shall not stop until we win. Legendra shall be saved!
That's right, Scythe. Teiris will stop you, then she will marry me. Yes.
Um, Gongos, I think they get the point of your story. We know you're infatuated with Teiris. Give it a rest.
Yes, you green freak. I get the point. But it doesn't matter. Your pathetic lives end here.
You shall be a sacrifice to the glory of Madruk. And when you are finished, your plan will be destroyed.
Scythe... you are the one to be destroyed. Yes.
I have to agree. This is your end, Scythe. The violins are playing.
Violins. Yes. Ha! We shall end your dark life here, Scythe.
There, you can be with your charred love forever!
I hate to disappoint her. Okay, not really.
Scythe isn't really all that dangerous here. She's got a mediocre group of zombies, and two hardcore dragons.
Once they're out of the picture, it'll be a breeze.
Okay, I forgot to switch his troops over to Dragons. We'll make do.
These guys are as generic as they come, but no less deadly for it.
We'll just have to play defense instead.
This should keep them occupied long enough for Reinhart to bring the rain, as the saying goes.
The Mages won't hold them off for very long.
Time for Plan B.
As Gongos would say... Oh yes.
Good thing they aren't flame resistant.
These guys can take a serious beating, but numbers win out, fortunately.
And moving on.
I'd rather not put her up against Scythe. I don't think she'd last.
This isn't exactly safe, but hey.
At least she has the right backup.
Defensive Offense should keep them at bay.
It puts a good enough dent in their numbers.
And they go in for the kill.
She decides to call in one of their big brothers.
Nothing wrong with cross-species homicide.
Keeping the species pure, or something.
So much for her dragon pets.
Last and least, the demon mistress herself, for Gongos to smash.
For once, I'm willing to agree.
What's that supposed to mean coming from her?
That's more like it.
This should get us a nice head start. (We'll need it, Scythe can also take a beating.)
Not one she's bound to like.
She's far from dead, but Gongos'll hold out.
Scythe finally starts pulling some tricks of her own.
Fortunately, in moderation.
She could easily cast that around 30 times, and be unstoppable.
Good thing he gets the last laugh.
Yes.
Some people never learn.
I'll not soon forget this, Teiris and Reinhart!
Gongos, it appears that you've been ignored again.
Hrmph, I'd just as soon as forget about Scythe.
That's the secret of health - forget about all the bad.
If the bad doesn't knock me in the face, I'll ignore it. Just the way I am... yes.
Let's enter the shrine.
Ah, it's... it is the Bracelet of the Sun!
It is shiny and smooth. Yes.
The rest are waiting for us. We have what we came for. Let's head back!
Let me read the inscription. 'One day the eight chosen shall come forth. Of the eight, only three may pass these walls.
One free like the wind. One with the strength of the land. And one with the power of thunder. Three only.'
I must be the strength, Junon the power, and Mikhal the one free like wind.
Wait! Be careful... I sense we are not alone.
You came here unknowingly playing right into my hand. Here you shall face your demise, and your souls shall fuel Madruk's awakening!
Regardless of what walls you throw in front of us, we shall tear them down readliy. It is not our end that shall take place, but yours!
Yes! Regardless of how much power you command, we shall only fight harder.
Time for round 2.
Gaul's even less of a threat than Scythe, technically. More hardcore dragons, but all he has are Mages.
(And a lot more MP.)
But first, the beasties.
A sneak attack might help.
And a rush or two.
Tough shell to crack.
I underestimated his durability.
It wasn't enough.
And so it's down to this.
My hopes arise...
And come crashing down.
Ouch.
I guess he'll be sitting this out.
We can break in Junon Version 2 early, then.
Even cooler without the death helmet, if you ask me.
Barely broke a sweat.
I'm saving her for Gaul, so Mikhal can handle the second dragon posse.
They slice and dice with ease.
I'm glad he's on our side.
All too easy.
I hope Leon was taking notes from the hospital.
And now for the sorcerer, or whatever he is.
...And the marrow curdle in your very bones.
Isn't he a charmer?
What he lacks in social graces, he makes up for with nasty magics. He's not as directly powerful as Scythe, but just as tricky.
Junon's got the mages covered. (Sadly, the "Die Maggots!" line left with the helmet.)
The end result is the same: mass destruction.
They can feast on the rest.
With some help.
Gaul finally bares his fangs, a bit too late.
They finishes him just in time. (A duel could have been ugly.)
But Madruk shall have the final victory. Nothing you can do will change the course of fate!
By the dark orb! The coward hightailed it out of here! Oh well, I'm sure he'll be back.
Now that Gaul and his minions are defeated, we can enter.
Is that...?
Yes, I believe it must be the Staff of the Moon.
All right, now that we have it, we'd better head back. The others are waiting, I'm certain.
Wait! What is this cold feeling I sense? I remember now... that is... Faust!
.....
If you truly were a Holy Warrior against Madruk, do not prevent our advance!
Come, Junon... try to seize all the power I command!
!!!
Alas, what is this power? It is not the power of evil!
This power can't be the...
So, if you truly are the Dragon Force...
Junon did it!
I can't believe she escaped death from that!
This is it! Faust!!!!
Faust! Why did you unleash that on me? Speak! I demand an answer!
I have counted you worthy. And so, you have received the Dragon Power into your soul.
This is my final wish... now I can rest in peace...
The only power strong enough to defeat the power of evil is the power of the Star Dragon.
Faust...
But, you as yet battle with a heart of hatred. That heart was beating when you defeated me.
But, it shall prevent you from defeating Madruk! A heart full of hate stops the flow of Dragon Power.
When you locked up Goldark without killing him, your vengeful spirit should have ended.
Junon... release the hatred in your heart, now. In my 300 years...
I have seen that those filled with hatred always fare badly. You set my soul free...
Now the time has come to free yours from the bonds of hate.
And so, Dragon Warrior, I bid you farewell...
Faust, you have served your mission well. I shall not turn a deaf ear to your wisdom.
Two down, one to go... and Junon's got a new trick up her sleeve for Mr. Madruk.

Endgame 2 is on the way. It will not contain the ending. But who knows, maybe I'll finish that tonight. All that will be left after this is the final battle.

There's technically no good reason to do more searching, but hey, I'm a packrat.
That seems nice.
And Teiris could sure use that.
Lastly, we need Leon back on his feet. No rest for the wounded.
Oh, and we should probably get that dragon gear handed out.
She'll need it more than Reinhart.
And, well, why not.
Now then, where were we?
That's a new one.
It has some... writing on it. Let me see if I can make it out... Ah yes! It reads:
'One day the Dragon Force will arise. In that day, only two of their number may enter here.
One who has the kindness of the heavens. And one with the strength of light. Two warriors alone.'
Long time no see, Goldark. You wouldn't forget the face of your brother, would you?
Brother!? That's impossible. Gyzzdark is dead.
What a sad testament to the power of evil. Even from beyond, your thirst for power is unquenchable.
This time, you shall not thwart my plan, brother! The power I received from Gaul shall crush you utterly!
Hrmph. Gaul is nothing more than an ethereal coward.
This isn't about Gaul, brother. It is about you and I. The time has come to pay you back for your treachery! Soon, I alone shall rule Legendra from beyond!
Like I haven't heard that one before.
Gyzzdark doesn't even have Dragons, just a lot of Cavalry. Bad news? Goldark has to fight him, as opposed to the Dragon-wielding Wein.
I guess we'll manage.
They're not wasting time.
Best to let them come to us.
Nice handy trick of Goldark's, but it doesn't wipe out as many as I would have liked.
Gyzzdark's sorcery takes out far more. Something about an electric light parade.
Shocking.
It breaks things up more than enough for them to get through.
Goldark better get his shots in while he can.
Gyzzdark can take one serious beating.
He manages to take them all out, and keep going.
So it's down to this.
Not like we have much choice.
It must be an off day for Goldark.
He picked the wrong day to be a pushover.
Well, I guess Wein can finish the rest.
Except he has to go through the beastie first.
Another equal match, except the dragon has one major advantage.
Solid defense.
I expected that they could handle a head-on assault.
Especially with some help.
I underestimated how much of a beating these dragons could take.
Wein manages to get in a few more hits, but their Protect was way too solid, and his dragons were done for.
And so is he.
Total loss.
Oh well, six out of eight is enough to handle Madruk. Who needs that stupid sword anyway?
Yeah, who am I kidding.
Three extremely boring weeks later...
Let's try that again.
You defeated me once. It shall never happen again.
Don't be too sure of that.
Now we have a little more freedom of planning. So Goldark can handle the Dragons(hopefully), and Wein's dragons can mutilate Gyzzdark's Cavalry.
Goldark can play that too.
Unfortunately, this leads to something of a stalemate.
Doesn't mean we can't do some damage.
Still, even after half the time is up, their defense is way too solid to risk a total charge against.
I send in most of the squad, and they don't take out nearly enough of them.
All we can do is lay down suppressive fire.
And a slash or two.
He still has way too many dragons getting his back.
So, plan C.
We wait him out.
It's pretty effective.
Now it's Gyzzie's turn. If Wein wins this, Goldark's draw won't matter.
They aren't bothering with defense.
Good news for us.
More artillery fire.
And Gyzzdark's down for the second time.
Don't forget to write.
He's faking amnesia, get him!
Is... is that you, Goldark?
You've come back to your senses, I see.
<cough> Gaul... he USED me! Uhh...
Are you alright?
I-... I'm okay. Goldark... I always envied your many talents. Your popularity, leadership, art with the sword...
You were always my superior in every way... I hated you. That is what Gaul and Scythe used to gain my cooperation.
They said, if I helped them, they would see to it that I would rule all of Legendra one day!
<cough> I accepted the offer and sold my soul. I was the one who sent the assassins out to stir up war!
And I took shameless advantage of the trouble I caused. Ohh! What terrible, hideous deeds I have perpetrated.
Please forgive me!
You can get the killing over with now.
Or not.
As I suspected, you are the last of the Eight Chosen!
That's ironic. I was aware of the Crest of the Star Dragon, even as I was swallowed by a darker power.
Oh! What is this light? My heart grows peaceful...
Go to sleep, brother. It was all but a nightmare, and the morning comes.
I tormented you, yet you still call me brother. How can you do that?
If the empire would be ruled in my absence, I decided to rot away in the tower. I respected you.
Even though you faced many problems, you shouldered the rule of Fandaria yourself.
I'm sorry, Goldark, my little brother... I should have abandoned my pride and greed and come to you. We could have ruled Fandaria together.
Dear brother!
Now I know why you wore the guise of ambitious conquerer! It was to protect your brother! You took responsibility for his guilt and crimes!
He was so very innocent as a child. He had not a devious bone in his body! Until he took on the rule of the empire. It changed him. I wanted only to protect my brother's honor. When he fell into Gaul's trap of avarice and greed, I had to stop him. I did so by my own hand.
Gaul has forced me to slay my own brother... not only once, but twice. I will have my revenge on him for that, I swear!
Goldark, are you ... all right?
Yes, do not concern yourself with me. Just... head inside. We must get the Sword.
Okay. Follow me.
I've got it! We'd better head back, the others are probably waiting.
Elsewhere...
You fell from the tall tower, you prat!
Ramda?
It begs me to unleash it against the dark tide! The Dragon Power is changing! Now it responds to the owner's heart!
Not again.
Bypass mode activated. Begin seek mode.
Majesty! I have dire news to report! The object in the middle of the land moves!
What IS that thing?!
It's name is Katmando. It is the last of the three Dark Apostles. It cannot be defeated by magic nor weapon.
The only way to stop it is to use the Star Sword... in concert with the Dragon Power. Junon, you alone can stop it. I leave this in your capable hands.
And off he goes again.
Katmando's coming, and anyone in his path is toast, so I clear the way ASAP.
I had to delay the duel for sake of giving Junon the sword in question, without which she hasn't a prayer.
That should do it.
Perfect timing, roboto.
Katmando, feel the power of the Star Dragon!
All or nothing.
I hate when he does that.
Try it against someone who's not undead.
No sense in delaying the inevitable.
Let's see what this does.
Looks hot.
And so it is.
Katmando's putting a hurt on the soldiers.
At least they're keeping him occupied. A few shots from his cannon would mean bad things.
Let's give him one more dose of dragon fire.
It does wonders.
Sayonara, sparky.
I really did it! Now I'm sure I can beat Madruk!
At least she's an optimist.
As a result, the seal on Ruinledge Mountain grows weak. Dragon men are escaping from it into the countryside.
But I fear we will not be strong enough.
Do not be so weak minded. The enemy is counting on you getting discouraged!
Lord Frest! Why have you come here?
Do not be confused by the dragon troops about. They are only trying to distract you.
They seek to keep you busy until Madruk's return.
Ah! It all makes sense now. If we stay busy fighting them, that buys Madruk time.
That is correct. You must head straight for Ruinledge. Do not waste time fighting the dragon men needlessly.
You must reach Madruk in the heart of Ruinledge before he gains the power to awaken fully.
This shall be the final confrontation, Junon.
I understand. Chancellor! Call forth the warriors of the Dragon Force! We shall gather at Castle Bloodly, then head out. Now then, to the final battle!
The dragons aren't wasting time.
We mustn't either.

For one last time, the statistics of the Tristan Empire:
And we almost had the complete map, if not for the Dragonmen:
Close enough.
Farewell, supporting cast.
It's time to march.
The time for the final battle is upon us.
Muriko, I leave domestic affairs in your hands.
Majesty, please return to us unharmed.
Ayrios, Cinna, I shall leave you in charge of defense. You must keep the dragonmen away from civilians.
It will be a difficult assignment, but I'm counting on you.
I shall do just as you ask, Majesty.
We shall carry out your order without fail.
Scar and Ortega, support them in controlling the dragonmen.
Though I wanted to take care of Scythe myself, I shall leave it in your capable hands, Lady Junon.
You must return to shine your beautiful face on us again! I shall die if I am deprived of your beauty too long!
Now is not the time for such talk! You all have your assignments!
Ha! 'The last hope', the Eight Warriors of the Star Dragon! We will smash you to a sticky, pulpy mass!
Target confirmed... locking weapons.
You shall never, ever defeat us!
He's right, you know. No matter what you throw at us, we won't give in!
Let's go, everyone!
Wait, Junon. Not so fast.
What? Why did you stop me?
This is obviously some kind of ploy. They are trying to keep us occupied here, probably to give Madruk time to revive completely.
I see. Giving us the old stall, are they?
If so, we certainly don't want to fall into that trap.
That's right. Leave this fight to us, Junon. We will occupy THEM while you slip away to Madruk's lair.
But, don't you think the Dark Apostles will be too strong without this word of the Star Dragon helping you?
Don't worry, Junon. Remember, we are all Warriors of the Dragon Force, too.
He's right, Junon. Please trust us.
Alright, but promise me you won't get yourselves hurt!
Hah! You let her go! Are you really that thick? Your 'last hope' is gone now, Dragon Farce! Your chances against us are seriously diminished.
Resign yourselves to death!
Huh. Who is the thick head here? You have been defeated by ME once already! Yes. Gongos will not let you run away this time!
Haaah ha ha ha! Beastmen!
Reckless soldiers of the Dragon Force! You have no idea how lame you are, but we will show you.
Humph. We shall see. I'll take of Scythe myself. Impertinent woman.
I will fight with you.
Don't bother. I've got her.
Listen, you can't defeat any one of these by yourself. That's been tried already, remember? Do you want to repeat the mistake of the original Eight?
...You are right. I'm sorry.
Well, I'll take Gaul. I think strong magic is the strategy called for here.
I will fight by your side. If his magic proves to be a match for yours, my sword will make up the difference.
Yes. I will feel confident with you by my side.
The only one left is the Katmando thing. I am not good at fighting one who does not feel. It will not cry out its pain. How will I know its weakness?
This is no time for complaining, Gongos. Aren't you the Gallant Man of the Forest? You're sounding more like a wimp...
Well, well. Teiris will be by my side, so I am fine.
You'll be more than fine, Lord Gongos. Together, we can't lose!
What, Wein? You will fight with us, too? Hm, that's too bad. With Miss Teiris, two is a company...
And three is a chaperoned date! Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!
Scythe, do you think you can kill me? Eh?!
Hmph. If I fight seriously, I can kill you handily. Die, Warriors of the Dragon Force!!
Katmando's a machine. He can't defend himself from my sword!
Shield enabled. Battle sequence initiated.
Time for the last one.
Gongos has the most health, so I decide to use him first.
Unlike the first two, this is pretty much the exact same as the normal fight, only he takes (much) longer to kill, since these three lack the Dragon Power.
Roll out?
At least he's consistent.
On the bright side, by pure coincidence: I learned that Beasts are actually most effective against Katmando. Didn't know that at the time.
Bonus.
Not that he's going down easy.
He even uses some new tricks.
Fortunately, nothing that can hurt Gongos. (He has the dual cannon attack, but he did not use it once for some odd reason.)
Another aerial assault.
And the rest is up to them.
All too easy. I'd have rather had three people for Gaul or Scythe.
(On the other hand, if Katmando decides to use his cannons repeatedly, any one general could be dead in seconds)
Did you see the great strength of the gallant man? Ha ha!
I am a little worried about Junon... after all, she is all alone against that monster.
Don't worry, Teiris. She has the protection of Harsgalt, too. She won't be easily defeated... even by Madruk.
Let's hope not.
And, for the last time...
Pompadours are all the rage among dark gods.
.....You! You're the dark god... Madruk! The one who nearly destroyed Legendra three centuries ago!
Yes, I am Madruk, god of annihilation and destruction.
Why are you trying to destroy us? Why are you trying to return us to the ash yet again? You gods made us!!
I will tell you. It is the way of this world. Astea makes new stars from the ashes of the old. And I take the stars and turn them back into ash. The new is always built from the ashes of the old. I will rule this world once everything is ash. Not only stars will fall before me, but gods as well. Then I will build the foundation of my new world!
Oh, okay.
What arrogance leads you to believe you can prevail. For I am Madruk, god of destruction. And you are paltry humans scattering before me. You cannot win. Ha ha ha ha ha ha...
I am here to say I shall not allow it. I will send you back to the pit you crawled from, Madruk!
Atta girl.
Not much we can do but wail on him.
He sends out an occasional attack.
Nothing J can't handle.
Sure, the troops are hurting, but overall? Cinch.
And done. Time to-
Wait, what's so funny?
This is more fun than I had anticipated. I have not found such pleasure since the days of Harsgalt!
Did it.... but why is he laughing??
Weaklings, I have granted you a special honor. You shall be the first sacrifice to my new empire! Step forth and accept your prize, weanlings!
I am certain I delivered the final blow! Is he immortal?
I shall smite all other gods before me. And Astea will become nothing more than a memory. Then I, and I alone, shall hold absolute power. The might to mutilate and destroy worlds will be mine! And Legendra shall be first to receive my attention!
Lucky us.
What she said.
Yes, the real last battle. Despite appearances, Madruk is not that difficult at all.
Creepy, sure, powerful, yes, durable, no.
The dragons have lots to munch on.
And Madruk's do some munching too.
And some barbeque.
That's what this was saved for.
It does a dent, but he's got a ways to go.
This is Madruk's general attack, which he actually put to use, unlike Katmando.
Trivial damage, mostly.
Keep biting!
And the final strike.
Dragon Wave! Or something.
Treasure would be proud.
Bang bang, bye bye.
If you want to take the long way out, here's the cutscene: [at 4:00] Spoiler:
This can't be! It wasn't supposed to end like this...
They're gone!
It's true! They were chosen by Astea! Now she delivers them from fire itself! Spoiler:
this is one of the few girls Rudger won't hit on
Sacred heroes of the Dragon Force.
Thanks to your heroic efforts, Madruk's evil hand will never again threaten this beautiful land.
You mean Legendra is finally free? Free of the conflict and despair of the evil that bound us?
Teiris, I wish nothing more than for that noble dream to become a beautiful reality some day.
Do not lose hope.
Though conflict and despair will continue to try the mortal world,
the cry of a myriad of hearts desiring peace can drown out the sickly wail of evil and despair.
Work hard to build that future.
Show your children the power of love and you strike a blow at the forces of hate.
Success lies within your grasp. But it will not be easy.
For you see, us immortals will no longer intervene on your behalf.
As with children who grow to leave their parents,
the time has come for you to take charge of your own destiny.
Farewell, dear children.
The future is yours.
The reign of the immortals thus ended. Beginning the most exciting chapter in Legendra's history!
