The G&T Venting, Ranting, and Argument Thread :
|

 | Alright, putting forth something a bit different here but I thought it could be fun. Potentially disastrous of course too but what the hell? Basically, this is a thread for games and technology related posts and arguments that find themselves off-topic in other threads. Instead of dragging down that thread with an argument about friend codes, the correct color of the NES Zapper, anti-PS3 propaganda, console game lineups, and so forth, just battle it out here until you are satisfied. Or lets say that you just want to rant about how you think game reviews should be done or vent about how much a game you eagerly anticipated sucks. Again, feel free to do that here if it doesn't seem to fit anywhere else.
Yeah but . . . why? Because I think the off-topic conversations in a lot of threads are often pretty interesting and contain some good points. Plus there seem to have been a lot lately due to numerous recent announcements, releases and reviews for major games, and varying levels of bias toward it all.
Some ground rules before we start off:
1. Lets all keep things related to this particular forum. No venting about how much your day sucked unless it involved something like being raped when you traded in a game and then almost killed when a nearby aisle of shovelware collapsed on top of you. This may be an off-topic discussion thread but its still an on-topic forum. This thread is not a publicly accessible LiveJournal.
2. Lets keep things somewhat civil and structured here. If you are going to call someone a fucking retard, at least help them out by providing sufficient evidence as to why they are fucking retarded and why you think their opinion is wrong. Try not to be insulting just for the sake of being insulting though.
3. You may go ahead and post something here that would be considered trolling elsewhere, but at least be prepared to backup your particular claim or argument with some rationale. Unpopular opinions are fine, just don't post something purely for the sake of pissing people off.
4. These rules are of course subject to change based on mod discretion. And no this is not SE, shut up.
5. Above all, just use common sense and everything should be just fine and dandy.

Whoo! Now that all of that is over with, I'll go ahead and start us off.
Venting and ranting:
Most of us here would consider ourselves hardcore gamers but there are of course varying meanings to this. But should there be? The way I see it, being a hardcore anything simply means that you spend a lot of time and money on your particular hobby or activity, or you consider yourself to be very proficient at it. So really, being a hardcore gamer simply means that you buy games often and spend a lot of time playing them or you consider yourself to be very skilled at playing certain titles or genres of video games. And really, if you see yourself as being especially proficient at playing certain games, the first two criteria that I think would define someone as being a hardcore gamer probably apply to you anyway. Very simple really.
Occasionally I see a message board where there is someone trying to tell some other anonymous person that they are not a real gamer unless they meet some cryptic and obtuse criteria. This one especially gets to me: "you're not a real gamer unless you own all three systems" (Wii, PS3, 360).
Alright look, I hate to make a judgment call here because I obviously don't really know you, but you're fucking retarded. Let me tell you why. I really should not have to with this but I will anyway. You see, for some people this isn't feasible or particularly sensible with their financial situation or their excess free time that they can just throw money at all three different systems or find the time to play all the games they want. Maybe this person does other things from time to time and is not quite as hardcore as you. Great, you own all three systems and are certainly into gaming, but don't say that other people aren't gamers just because they don't go to certain extremes. Hell, maybe a certain system just doesn't really appeal to them.
Not hardcore.
No, they just aren't going to buy that console because the desire to do so isn't there for them and thats fine. Also, I really hate using the term gamer anyway. Whats the consensus on that one I wonder?
Arguing:
Arguing to follow soon.

Alright, now go ahead with the postings! Vent! |
