This section of the opening post will be dedicated to any forumer contributions made to this thread by way of creating something that will be helpful for organizing online play, the setup thereof, or sharing pertinent information such as user names and friend codes. In addition to this, there is now a portion explaining more advanced Smash terminology as well.

Smash Brothers Community Terminology, Parts 1 and 2
Brought to you by Chopper Dave. Very thorough look at advanced Smash terms.
About that:
Spoiler:
ChopperDave wrote:
Whew, that took way longer than I thought it would
I wrote the first part of this guide myself, hopefully it does a decent enough job describing some of the most-confused terms. The other, lesser important terms I just lifted from a thread in Smashboards.
It's...long, so I've split it up over two posts. The first part is all most of you will want to read, anyway, the second part (from Smashboards) has got a lot of specific, kind of unnecessary terms. I deleted some of the MOST superfluous ones (BYOC = bring your own controller, for example :roll, but for the most part it remains intact. By the way, if there's any terms I forgot to add or didn't describe effeciently, please let me know.

And last but not least, here is something that mntorankusu and Geod have been working on.
About that:

It would be awesome if somebody wrote up a sig generator that puts your name/code on there, with a version for each character.

Update on the WIP sig generator.
Geod added the ability to change the background color. Now all you dudes who wanted them to be unique for each character will be able to just change the background color to match.
And here is what they look like:

Since we already knew about Little Mac, let's try and guess what the "dud" assist trophy will be (like Mew/Goldeen for Pokeballs). I say the Duck Hunt dog.
And thus the people wishing him to be playable had their dreams shattered.
He was already confirmed though. This is just kicking us while we're down by announcing things on the site that we already know about.
That's the problem with last week's conference and E for All. We've seen/we're going to see so much stuff that there's no way they can keep posting things we don't know about already.
They should give us double updates when theres things from the press demo involved.
Nate Bhildorff said in an interview that he translates these updates weeks before they're posted (Makes you wonder why they're so engrishy). They have no idea what all we're going to see ahead of time.

E for All - New Gaming Event
Sakurai has this to say:
The forthcoming E for All event will be held at the Los Angeles Convention Center beginning October 18.
And it appears that this event will display the first ever public playable version of Super Smash Bros. Brawl! I am planning on having people play the game—but with limited character selection.
The problem is Sonic. What to do... I suppose if we’re going to all this trouble, perhaps we should make him playable.
Oh, yes. And for those of you who come to play, please remember—you tap the Control Stick to do Smash attacks.
Have fun!
Certain SmashBoards players will be there to investigate too.
Sonic the fucking Hedgehog is in the game! You knew that already but its still damn exciting!

The one whose Smash appearance has been most desired dashes in from far away at supersonic speed.

Sonic the Hedgehog Joins the Brawl!
Nintendo Conference Fall 2007 Movie
There was an announcement at this conference that Sonic the Hedgehog has joined the fray. I’d like to provide you with the short movie that was shown there.
There’s still a little more development to be done... I’m hoping to complete it without incident.
FUN FACT
The second video hints at so many things. Future pokemon, new character moves, a new stage, and maybe a new item.
TheSonicRetard provides some great insight on the Sonic model:
Spoiler:
TheSonicRetard wrote:
This is a very composite sonic the hedgehog. Parts of him have been drawn from Sonic 1, Sonic CD, Sonic Adventure, Sonic the Fighters, and even the recent sonic 360.
Pretty awesome of them to make a truly timeless sonic model.
Improvolone wrote:
So this Sonic is a composite of other Sonics, eh?
Mind pointing out what is from where?
TheSonicRetard wrote:
Well...
his straight up model looks like it was taken from Sonic and the Secret rings, which is an adaptation of the Sonic Heroes model. His running animation uses the super peelout motions from sonic cd. his skidding and jumping sound effects range somewhere between sonic 1 and sonic 2. his fighting stance is from sonic the fighters, as are his punching and kicking animations. his spring bouncing noise is from sonic adventure, as is his spindash noise. his breakdancing move is from sonic 360. his ledge animation are from sonic 1 and sonic CD.
I'd say that's a pretty rounded list of characteristics that spans his entire career.

Stages: As in Melee, the different game-inspired backdrops in Brawl change throughout the match. The difference is that in Brawl the permutations seem to happen much more often; something is constantly happening in the background while you're fighting, adding to the frenzied feeling of the matches. And not only cosmetically -- the environments are certainly more interactive than ever before, with constantly changing platforms, screen movement, and even hazards. Take the lava-themed level from Metroid for example: The burning magma constantly rises and falls, with the screen persistently scrolling to new formations of platforms. On occasion, a large wave of molten lava even pushes across the screen vertically from the left, reducing the safe area to a tiny lone platform -- with four players fighting to stay on it, things can get pretty hectic as you can imagine. Even small details, like the current match leader showing up on the scoreboard in the background of the Pokemon Stadium, are there for those who look.
IGN wrote:
Since each character can also switch colors pre-fight, Nintendo took the opportunity to seamlessly include Dark Link as one of the character options. He fights the same, but looks totally badass, which is a must.
Meowth. It’s considered a major Pokémon, but it did not show up in Melee. It now makes its first appearance since the original Smash Bros.
Meowth appears!
It unleashes a slow coin barrage!
They call this Pay Day, but it’s not like it’s getting any coins out of it.
It doesn’t appear to be throwing the coin on its forehead.
Huh? That definitely appears to be a coin on its forehead, but what do you suppose they call it in Japan?
Maybe if you check the Japanese version of Smash Bros. Dojo you can find out...
How to use the Wii Remote
Believe it or not, but you can use four controller types with this game! But everyone seems to wonder the most about how the Wii Remote works when held sideways.
Please allow me to explain.
+Control Pad : Move
Press left or right to walk and press up to jump.
If you’re in a real hurry, press twice. Press left or right twice to run and press down for a short time to fall through some floors.
Press sideways twice to dash!
2 Button : Basic Moves
Just press the button for a standard attack. Press it while pressing a direction on the +Control Pad for a strong attack.
You can perform smash attacks in one of the following ways:
* 1: Press the 1 Button and the 2 Button at the same time.
* 2: Press any direction on the +Control Pad and the 2 Button at the same time.
Just pick whichever one is easiest for you!!
Press the 2 Button at the same time you press up, sideways, or down!
1 Button : Special Moves
The direction you press will determine what kind of special move you do.
You have four special moves depending on the direction you pick: neutral, up, sideways, and down.
B Button : Shield
This is in a kind of hard-to-press area, but the button for your shield is near your left index finger.
To dodge, hold down the B Button and press in a direction.
To grab, hold down the B Button and press the 2 Button.
To throw an item, hold down the B Button and press the 2 Button.
Using the – Button is the same as pressing B Button and 2 Button. Grab away!
A Button : Taunt
That’s all!
Right now, to grab a Smash Ball, you have to beat on it—not just touch it. Don’t forget!
Be the first to pummel it!
When you get a Smash Ball, try a standard special move. In other words, just press the button for your special move without a direction. You will then perform your Final Smash.
This is the same for all control schemes, so keep that in mind.
On October 18 at the E for All (Entertainment For All Expo) in Los Angeles, people will be able to play Brawl. And (perhaps boldly), it will be available for play with the Wii Remote. Is that really going to be OK?
No need for concern—I bet you can play it quite smoothly and simply...maybe. How about a little mental training before the time comes when you actually control it?
Note: Each method is fully customizable so that you can map all of the controller functions yourself.

Gooey Bomb: The Gooey Bomb acts as a sticky Remote Mine. While stuck to a character, it can be passed back after making contact with another player.
Cracker Launcher: This projectile launcher isn't as racist as it sounds. It might be more recognizable as a 'Roman Candle'. We saw it briefly in the short clip from Min-E3.
Banana Peel: Because Cliche's work.
Bumper: A return from the 64, relatable to Melee's Flipper item. A new twist leaves this possible to plant mid-air.
Pitfall: The item from Animal Crossing. Surprisingly, it caries its ability from Animal Crossing over very well. Simply making characters fall thru holes or thru platforms.
Smoke Ball: An original item, soley based on obscurity. This item deals no damage, but rather actually just blinds the player from the screen.
Franklin Badge: Debuting from the Mother Series (Earthbound), this relates to Fox's Reflector, like the Screw Attack Ball relates to Samus' Screw Attack. Basically, it reflects projectiles.
Spicy Curry: When a Fire Flower just can't suit your flaming needs.
Golden Hammer: A coat of paint works wonders.

So far, we've been given a list of series that have been represented, but as we get this list, its come to us out of order. We currently have gaps as shown:
1. Smash Brothers
2. Donkey Kong
3. StarFox
4. Kirby
5. F-Zero
6. Metroid
7. Earthbound/Mother
8. Pokemon
9. Zelda
10. Mario
11. Yoshi
12. Fire Emblem
13. ???
14. Ice Climbers
15. Animal Crossing
16. Wario
17. Metal Gear
18. Kid Icarus
19. ???
20. Sonic the Hedgehog *
*20 Is the highest number we're aware of, it in no way indicates that it is the final number
Another Interesting Fact: By smash tradition, there has never been a stage from a game without a character from that series representing this. That and an interview on the subject lead many to believe that an Animal Crossing character is all but confirmed.
Discussion (Read: Bitchings)
Spoiler:
These are some things to expect in regards to the updates. The type of updated listed, and the expected discussion that can follow.
Music update - Next day spent argueing about MIDI files vs Orchestrated.
Item update - Someone inevitably pisses off the competitve players with the "Why no items" arguement. Other than that, everyone is generally happy.
B Moves update - People are generally meh about this towards returning characters, pretty happy about it towards new characters.
Final Smash update - 1 of 2 updates that have universal appeal. Except Diddy apparently.
New/Old Character update - Pretty cool to see old characters revamped. Pretty awesome to see brand new characters.
Stage update - Next day spent arguing about gimmick levels vs. Battlefield/Final Destination.
Tutorial update - Boring tutorials, but spectacular mode discussions.
Movie update - Dicks cumming, all of them, simultaneously, with super mushroom power-ups.
