I am desperately terrified that I'd get addicted to prescription medication if I started taking any.

It's pretty hard, depending on the medicine. I've been taking a prescription amphetamine that causes a decent high for at least 7 years, and yet there are summers where I don't bother taking it for months with zero withdrawal effects. Of course, some prescriptions are going to be more addicting than others, but so long as you follow the instructions and don't take too much you're unlikely to get addicted. Unless you've just got a "weaker" personality.

This is idiotic. The physiology of addiction has nothing to do with how strong someone's "will" to fight the addiction is. In fact, think about that for a moment. If someone does have a strong will to fight an addiction, they are still addicted.

Hench the quotations. It doesn't really have anything to do with how strong or weak you are, simply that some people, statistically, are more prone to addiction than others. But you're right, I was implying something dead inaccurate, regardless of quotations. Sorry about that. |
