 | A few old and new:
Evolution 1 and 2 for Dreamcast - Even 'back in the day' these were regarded as mediocre dungeon crawl RPGs. For those 'not in the know' you have your quirky chibi-looking anime-inspired characters and the game generates random dungeons for you to run around and level up in. Something about these games just clicked with me though, I could not wait to see the next boss or what rediculous powerup I would find for Mag's cyframe. I still think some of the music is pretty good to this day too, though I doubt I will ever run all the way through them again.
Reign of Fire - Back when I paid absolutely no attention to magazine reviews and just bought what I thought I'd like, I picked this up on a whim. Dragons+tanks=fun, right? Evidently my teenaged self agreed, because I did absolutely everything you could possibly do in this game. I have very fond memories and didn't even realize everybody else hated it until many years later.
Stranglehold - Not much to say on this one. Downloaded the demo on XBL, played and loved it, told myself I would get it as soon as it came out, did and beat it on every difficulty but the hardest. No, it isn't the best game, but it is darn good at what it does.
Zoop - When my aunt said she "asked the guy at the store what was popular" and brought this to me as a gift I was kind of skeptical. My first real puzzle game, I actually enjoyed it quite a bit and it got a lot of playtime on my Genesis.
Marsupilami - I think this was based off of a cartoon? I have absolutely no idea. You were a little cheetah-striped hybrid animal with a long tail that you could use as a whip. The goal was to guide an elephant through puzzles and eventually to the end of the level. Another game that was apparently terribly regarded that I played to completion and remember it being the most challenging videogame I'd played up to that point. |
