I think I win for the worst game that I loved that critics hated.

Jedi Power Battles.

I had no idea that everyone hated it until I looked it up later. I played it with a friend, finished it five or six times and unlocked the secret darth maul character. I could do all the moves. Hell, I'd buy a version of it that cut out the jumping puzzles RIGHT NOW.

Don't have too many games that I owned to add to this thread, but my friend had every system and I played alot over there.

6.9 at Gamespot, and 7.1 at Game rankings. Not hated I guess but I had a lot of fun with it when I borrowed his Playstation for it, and also Monster Rancher. (I also noticed their supposedly coming out with a Wii Mr domino game.)

Spawn: In the Demon's Hand - Dreamcast.
A 62% at Game rankings. This one was a favourite for multiplayer action. I usually played with the sword version of spawn.

Only other game I can think of is Mickey Mouse: Legend of Illusion on Game Gear. I can't even find it on a ranking site so whatever. Still have yet to beat it, damn you King Pete and your high resistance to my magic soap!

I'm with you on that one. I still have it on DC.

People hated that? That game got passed around my group of friends for over a year, and the doing the coop with my brother was awsome. Driving around that city place (Theed? Thede? Something) in a droid tank. Fun stuff.

(My favorite character was the orange guy)

A few old and new:

Evolution 1 and 2 for Dreamcast - Even 'back in the day' these were regarded as mediocre dungeon crawl RPGs. For those 'not in the know' you have your quirky chibi-looking anime-inspired characters and the game generates random dungeons for you to run around and level up in. Something about these games just clicked with me though, I could not wait to see the next boss or what rediculous powerup I would find for Mag's cyframe. I still think some of the music is pretty good to this day too, though I doubt I will ever run all the way through them again.

Reign of Fire - Back when I paid absolutely no attention to magazine reviews and just bought what I thought I'd like, I picked this up on a whim. Dragons+tanks=fun, right? Evidently my teenaged self agreed, because I did absolutely everything you could possibly do in this game. I have very fond memories and didn't even realize everybody else hated it until many years later.

Stranglehold - Not much to say on this one. Downloaded the demo on XBL, played and loved it, told myself I would get it as soon as it came out, did and beat it on every difficulty but the hardest. No, it isn't the best game, but it is darn good at what it does.

Zoop - When my aunt said she "asked the guy at the store what was popular" and brought this to me as a gift I was kind of skeptical. My first real puzzle game, I actually enjoyed it quite a bit and it got a lot of playtime on my Genesis.

Marsupilami - I think this was based off of a cartoon? I have absolutely no idea. You were a little cheetah-striped hybrid animal with a long tail that you could use as a whip. The goal was to guide an elephant through puzzles and eventually to the end of the level. Another game that was apparently terribly regarded that I played to completion and remember it being the most challenging videogame I'd played up to that point.

There, I admitted it.

I...I think Final Fantasy VII is a pretty swell game...

Spoiler:
Critics wanked off to that game. My copy has "Quite possibly the greatest game ever made" written on the back.

No, it doesn't qualify.

I liked it, too, by the way, most people do.
Did you read my spoiler? I'm not talking about what people said then; I'm talking about what some of the things I've heard on this very forum and elsewhere on the internet, now.

I don't know where anyone could get "most people like it" from some of the things I've read. Have you looked into any recent FF7 thread?

I mean it's not important. I was just being a little facetious.

I couldn't see what was so wrong about Spider-man 3 on the 360.

I take it I have something like diplomatic immunity on this thread and I will not be prosecuted for that, yes?

Well, I couldn't.

It wasn't any worse than SM2, maybe a little worse than USM, but still... I had fun, still pop it in from time to time to swing around while listenting to a custom soundtrack while I try different things on the rooftops.

Also Sega Rally Evo on the 360 and PS3. It was seen as an irrelevant little arcade game, and it was... but that's not a bad thing, as most critics seemed to believe at the time. Heck, Sega Rally on the Saturn cost me the equivalent of 70 bucks and it had like 3 levels.

I picked up Armored Core 4 here recently despite the nay saying from critics and various friends of mine. I've got to say, so far I love it. Usually when I fail a mission it's more an inadequacy to my AC and going back and tuning the machine until it's just right is one of those things that isn't so bad for me. Being able to create a giant stompy robot that looks like it's from one of the Gundam series or even that large tank one I have right now that looks sort of like a Chaos Space Marine is just great fun.

Also, Samurai Western. Samurai Western was one of those games that I could play for hours on end without feeling any sort of boredom. Just going through each of the levels and cutting through people with a sword while twirling around bullets made thise one of the best investments I ever made. That being said, I have considered Kengo for the 360 like twice, but the lack of quirkiness and the fear of it being like the awful Tenchu Z will be ultimately be the thorn in my side as far as purchasing it goes.

Don't know if this has been mentioned yet, but FF8. I'm not too sure as to what kind of reviews it got, but I know a lot of fans received it poorly. I'm playing through it now in fact. The only major complaints I have so far is the magic systems and Spoiler:
Other then that its a fun game with great characters.

FFIII DS. Yeah, it's a 80s-era grindfest. Whatever. It's fantastic and nogistalgic and I loved it. I couldn't sit down and play a game like that for hours at a stretch, but it's perfect for a handheld.

Gauntlet Legends on the N64, and Fur Fighters on the Dreamcast. 4.0 and 7.0 respectively on Gamespot.

They were both just fun multiplayer games that I logged countless hours on with friends. Gauntlet especially; crawling around in zombie-infested dungeons was never so fun with four people.

Actually, I remember it being well-received at the time, but maybe that was just the Mac version. Anyway, I loved the combat despite its faults and would dearly love to play a sequel. Also, there should be a Cowboy Bebop game using the engine.

I liked the basics of Oni as well, but that game has to have some of the absolute worst level design in the history of videogaming. The levels just went on and on and on

Like others in this thread have said, I enjoyed these games.

X2 Wolverine's Revenge
24 The Game
Spider-Man 2 (Movie)
Stranglehold

As well as

ZOE 1
LOTR Third Age
Victorious Boxers for PS2 as well as Wii

Although none of them have awful reviews, just mediocre for the most part.

Shit, I loved Gauntlet Legends and Gauntlet: Dark Legacy, and I was only really able to play them with my wife. I miss being able to round up four players for that kind of group ass-kicking.

Man, who could review that badly?
Gradius V reviewed really well. (rightly so)
I believe the Gradius collection came from the arcade ports, not the SNES versions, which most people are fans of. The arcade versions are also fuck all hard.

Let's make one thing clear right now:

No Final Fantasy game has ever been hated by critics. If your game has "Final Fantasy" in its title, it doesn't belong in this thread.

Mystic Quest has an average of 70% on Gamerankings.
VIII? 90%.
Crystal Chronicles? 80%.
XI? 83%.
X-2? 86%.

The only games with the words "Final" and "Fantasy" in their title to get less than 70% average are Dirge of Cerberus, Final Fantasy Legend 1, and the FF2 remake on PSP. Everything else has been on the receiving end of an absolute torrent of reviewer bukkake.

I was a big fan of Teras Kasi.

Still am.

Found lots of little quirks about it to like. Vader and "the bitch with the pink shit" were unstoppable, though.
