So, uh, how about that aliens game? I hear they have TWO mouths.
BTW, anyone know what engine this is going to be running on? I'd say UE3, but I guess it might be an earlier version of the Unreal engine that Gearbox has been working with for awhile now.
Cry some more? I know pretty much everyone I've played with had no issues with the game. Heck, I've got friends playing it right now. Beyond that I can't say how 'prevalent' these issues you talk of were, unless you can link me to an article or two lambasting the Halo PC port for that reason, because I honestly haven't heard of it being some huge issue.
The IGN review mentioned it, for one, but that's a fairly unknown site. I'm assuming you're asking for a link because you forgot how to use Google?
Or perhaps I don't have the time to go searching every game review site I can find in order to prop up assertions that you have made?
So I've just gone through the review, and I can find one paragraph out of a 4 page review which may be about what you describe.

And you may need to lower the graphics settings on the PC version to get a sufficient framerate. While the Xbox version had the occasional stutter here and there, the PC version seems much less reliable. We've tested the game on a range of systems. The one I've used the most is a 2.4GHz machine with a GeForce 4. At that level, I was able to play with all the details up at 800x600 fairly smoothly. I can get comparable performance at slightly higher resolutions by dropping the texture detail and shadows. But with everything turned all the way up at 1600x1200, we still had noticeable (but not completely aggravating) choppiness on our dual 3GHz machines with the new GeForce and Radeon cards.
That choppiness was about the extent of their issue with the game. Didn't stop them calling it a really good port and giving it an 8.2 / 10. Especially considering the work they put in for additional weapons and multiplayer maps.
If your issue is that the port runs slower than the Xbox version, then whilst it's true for this port, it's pretty much true for every other port I can think of.

You also completely ignored the point I raised in that Brothers in Arms was actually very well received.
So was Black and White.
I take it it's alien to you that people actually enjoyed Black & White then?
EDIT: Echo in the house, back on topic:
I wouldn't be surprised if they used UE3. But it's also possibe they'd try a modified Source Engine.
What they really need from their engine though is a good lighting model.

That would kinda preclude the source engine, wouldn't it? I mean, I love the source engine and all, but it really doesn't have anywhere near a modern lighting engine.
3 was defintely my favorite. It has the best climax EVER but only if you see the extended cut of Aliens. There's a scene in Extended Aliens that makes the end of Alien3 so much better I was actually bawling.
The extended movies are a mixed bag. The extended Alien isn't very good. There's a few cool extra scenes but there was so much more cut OUT of the movie in the Extended that I just didn't like it as much. It actually runs about 7 minutes shorter then the theatrical.
Aliens Extended is the only way to see the film.
Alien3 Extended, which I haven't seen yet, changes an important bit about the end and changes how the Alien gets onto the planet. The end change alone will make me hate it.
Alien Ressurection... who cares.
I'm psyched for the new game but they'll never top the SNES Alien3 game. It's my . I'm hoping there's same box co-op tho or I'll throw such a fit.

You're probably right, although I think the source engine might be able to handle it these days.
I think they made some progress with the lighting in Episodes 1 and 2.
The dark parking garage with Alyx in-tow was well done, you had to light up enemies with your flashlight beofre Alyx could shoot them. Once the flashlight went out it was TOTAL darkness.
Episode 2 added the whole self-shadowing malarkey as well, which is important. The Ant-Lion caves were really well done with the shader effects they used for the cave walls (the way you shone your torch on them and the shadows shifted on the surface as you moved was pretty spot on).
I dunno. I can't say we've seen really Aliens type stuff in the source engine, but I reckon it's possible with the right adjustments.
I might add in the Cry-Engine, but I suspect Gearbox would want something a bit more user-friendly in its requirements.

Considering Brothers in Arms are all made on the Unreal engine, I'll be VERY surprised if this isn't on some form of unreal tech.
EDIT: According to Wikipedia
Brothers in Arms: Road to Hill 30 - Unreal Engine 2.0
Brothers in Arms: Earned in Blood - Unreal Engine 2.0
Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway - Unreal Engine 3.0
Brothers in Arms: Double Time (Wii) - Unreal Engine 2
Brothers in Arms: D-Day (PSP) - Unreal Engine 2

I actually prefer the original cut. Or at least I think it's the version you should see first.
Spoiler:
They added a lot of cool stuff with the turrets and the minor backstory with Ripley's daughter. But I really preferred the fact that we didn't see anything of the colony until Riplay and the Marines arrived. It made everything seem so much more spooky and, well, alien.
In particular, I prefer the fact that they don't show Newt before Ripley arrives. In the original cut you have no idea whether anyone's still left alive in the colony, with the odds heavily against that. In the DC, I don't know, it just seems as if you'd be expecting to see Newt pop up somewhere because they gave her emphasis earlier.
Of course, this is all with hindsight having seen the Original Cut before the Directors Cut.

Yeah, the early colony scene is just terrible, no buts about it. But the backstory with Ripley's daughter is GREAT, it's what makes Alien3 all the better.

If I could make my own directors cut, I'd chop that scene and leave in everything else.
Zzulu: I've SEEN that movie somewhere before, but I just can't remember the name. Was it Spaceballs?
EDIT: NM, I just checked the image name, it was Spaceballs.

Aye. IIRC, they got the same actor as the one the chestburster came out of in the actual Alien movie. Though I might be wrong about that.

And considering Hell's Highway is the game they are working on right now, I'd be surprised if they didn't use UE3.0 for Alien (pretty excited for Hell's Highway, btw).
Edit: Oh fuck, so excited for Double Time as well

Yess!!
Needs a Mic so I can yell 'Where the fuck is my suppressing fire?' at my squadies too.

They need to use the Doom 3 engine. It's sufficiently dark and moody.
You'd need to actually be able to SEE the aliens at some point though..
Seriously though, I don't think there's anything the Doom 3 engine does with lighting at this point that the UE3 engine doesn't do. (Though I'm not an expect so I could be wrong) Which makes sense as Doom 3 is now what, 3.5 years old?
Yeah, this sounds great. I hope it'll focus on horror, though, as gunning down endless waves of aliens everywhere à la Gears or the like isn't a very creative use of the license.
I'm not too hot on it being squad based, mostly because I usually can't stand AI controlled teammates. But since you are playing colonial marines, it makes sense. Here's hoping for a Republic Commando-type scenario, rather than Rainbow Six or something. Also, there'll probably be coop in there.
Good news all in all. There is a distinct lack of Aliens games. But I hope it doesn't fall into the trap of being, like, Call of Duty with Aliens. It needs to take chances, do something unique and have a shitload of atmosphere.

Yeah, I had heard Sega was putting out an Aliens game a while back. Hopefully this will be good.
There are at least two. The other is an Obsidian-made RPG. Which I personally can't wait to see.

Yeah, Gearbox haven't been my favourite developer, but they've made some good, solid, respectable games, and seem to be improving all the time. They do seem to have one hell of a lot of projects on at the moment though (the scope for Borderlands alone is staggering), so I hope they don't compromise any. That said, I am really optimistic for this, and I'm confident they can make an awesome game here.
