Oh shit. Anyone remember that big fuckin' snake patrolling the marshes in FFVII? That bitch was pretty terrifying. That shadow....so ominous.
The Midgardsorm, I believe.
Yeah but then you come back around level 30 and it's like "Sephiroth needed a tree for this? Pfft, wimp."

Yeah, totally. I made the thing my bitch after leveling up a bit. And for the record, it's called the Midgar Zolom. I looked it up.

Resi 4 was pretty good for this. Namely:

Regenerators, Iron Maidens,
"It",
Krauser,
Salazar's mutherfuckin' right hand,
Dr. Salvador,
Those invisible insect things that drop on you.

Regenerators were nothing once you got the scope.

But that first one.

Jesus fuck that first one.

The first regenerator I killed without scope. I grenaded him to death, because I never pay attention to story so I didn't know there was a scope. I did get a little panicky after I ran out of grenades, though.

When I was a child and Chucke E Cheeses were still around (and not simply dark places for teenage burnout to hide) there was a game that was frightening and irrisistible at the same time.

Those big ass claw monster things in the fallout games. When you have to go into the den to kill the mother it's just impossible. How many times did you guys attempt head shots only to miss, get killed, then reload a million times?

Holy crap this guy was freakin horrifying. You never had to beat him, but once I finally did I was so relieved I sat there just panting for a few minutes.

Ah, the mighty Deathclaw. I do so hope Bethesda does them justice in Fallout 3.

I loved the "arcade mode" area with Dr. Salvador.

The Dahaka, from Warrior Within. Damn thing chases you all over that island, and you have to do some serious acrobatics with the Prince to get away. I think they also did something really cool with the game's colors when he got too close to you, like it would all wash out to sepia, though I can't remember the specifics.

Okay, so technically you could bring down the Berzerker. With an orbital ion cannon.

I did not like him at all, but it was a "he is pretty cool" kind of not like. I didn't like that he sucked you in with tentacles. Urgh.

I understand what you mean, but not everyone plays WoW, so it might need a description. In World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade, in Hellfire Peninsula, the first area in Outland, these huge robots called Fel Reavers walk around and if you get too close to one you're basically dead.

The OP mentioned SA-X from Metroid: Fusion and I'm going to have to agree with him. Holy shit did that thing terrify me, every time I'd see it I'd freeze up and shit my pants. I actually couldn't beat it at the end of the game for a long time because I'd be so shaken up when I met it (that and it was a genuinely hard fight).

God, I'm amazed that I managed to beat Metroid Fusion without a guide or help. Took me about a month. SA-X was seriously a walking rape machine and you spend 99% of the time running and hiding from it.

Yeah, no one in my guild bothered to tell me about them. I get to Hellfire and I'm doing a quest. All of a sudden the ground starts shaking and I think "WTF?" Then a giant boot comes down on me like the foot of God. Then, my spirit shows up in a nearby graveyard and I have to trek back to my body.

Remember that part with Mr. X near that infamous interrogation room? That was one pants-shitting moment right there. I don't want to spoil it just yet because you have to see it for the effect, but I can't find a video of it.

There's one point after you get the ice missiles where the damn thing chases you across three screens and all you can do to even slow it down is to freeze it and run for your life. At one point I think you have to drop a super bomb and the thing's still coming oh god lay it down freeze freeze runnnn.

It was tense.

Deathclaws are bad, but the things that really terrify me are Floaters and Centaurs. They're hard to kill, horrifically grotesque and completely deadly. Especially those fucking Centaurs, seeing a group of those appear in a random encounter fills me with dread.
