I send forth a decree to the land that this thread is good.
The elephant has extra shades of awesomeness.

Sorry not very constructive but your just so much better than I am.

I think the technique works best for the elephant (which is excellent), and perhaps the rhino, as well. The scratchiness lends itself well to the leathery quality of the animals' skin. Not so much really in the other pieces - it may be able to be carried out just as well, I think you're just going to have to tweak how you're doing it there.

What is the technique, by the way?

I really enjoy these, the more gestural ones (especially the elephant) have a really expressive sense of the actual brushstrokes. They remind me of Japanese paintings in a way.

Your brushwork is pretty friggin' awesome. I find this much more interesting than some of the older stuff you've posted back in the day. Are you using traditional ink and brush or some kind of brush pen?

    Also; wtf?

You have a very American Realist style in some of those in the last batch.

    Fun stuff!

max Id love to point you to a great tutorial online but I havent found any. You should definitely look into to buying this book. http://www.amazon.com/Proven-Strategy-Creating-Great-Art/dp/1929834195/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1210977206&sr=8-1

Pretentious title but a lot of great information. Read that book and.. do about two or three hundred paintings?

Not so much any more but a lot of my paintings have three or four failed paintings underneath them. You'll definitely be comfortable with the medium after that.

    Appreciate the positive words.

Shit man, i'm way into this kind of stuff. You working from photos for the ink stuff? I'd also be interested to hear more about you're process on the paintings.

On the painting with the guys lighting the cigarrette, the tones on the bottom half got a little washed out.

    Kenny!

I forgot you used to post here (this is whitney, btw)

Out of the ink stuff, I actually like the koala the best.

The paintings are great too. (The cowboy is my fav [though I just realized it looks like the gun my be in the wrong perspective]) It looks to be in exact profile, which even if that is how it would appear, looks really flat.

    Great work dude!

Hey man, thought that was you. I kindve forgot all about posting on internet forums for a while but after you get out of school showing your work to the same 3 people to get feedback gets a little incestuous. I looked back at some of my previous threads I created. I was a pretty ignorant mother fucker.
