If she had a three and a half year old with her at the store picking stuff off the shelves I might guess she was a little distracted

See... I have no sympathy for this.
First off, if you can't control your kid enough that you absolutely MUST have fruit snacks on your person at all times, you're already in trouble. And you don't LET a 3-year-old pick stuff off the shelves. If you want to let them choose, you ask them specifically ("this one or that one?") or they can tell you what they want or point. The kid should be firmly seated in the grocery cart, buckled in if necessary.
Second, those things have as much sugar (and much of it HFCS) as some kinds of candy. They are a special treat, NOT a regular snack. Dried fruit is much better for regular snacking, and in most grocery stores it's right there next to the fruit snacks, in convenient little packages just like the fruit snacks.
Third, Lego makes special sets for toddlers. They are 2-4 times the dimensions of the regular bricks (depending on whether you get the Duplo or Quatro sets). Why the hell are regular-sized Lego blocks within reach of any kid young enough to not know the difference between plastic and candy?
(Yeah, I'm a mean mom. )
As for marketing... remember, kids that have outgrown Sponge Bob and Disney Princesses eat fruit snacks too. I suspect that these are aimed at the older set in the first place. |

Personally, I like D&D because I find OCD much more interesting than ADD.
